Utah State men's basketball (9-7, 1-1) continues Western Athletic Conference play this week with road games at New Mexico State (11-5, 1-0) on Thursday, Jan. 12 at 7 p.m., and at Louisiana Tech (8-8, 0-1) on Saturday, Jan. 14 at 7 p.m. (MT). The game at New Mexico State will be televised by NMSU and broadcast on KMYU-TV. USU is 35-27 all-time against the New Mags including a 10-18 road record, and 12-2 all-time against the Bulldogs including a 4-2 road record.

L, 71-78 --- NEVADA
Utah State began WAC play with a 72-53 home win against Fresno State, followed by a 78-71 home loss to Nevada last weekend. Against the Bulldogs, sophomore guard Preston Medlin scored 19 points, while junior forward Kyisean Reed recorded his first career double-double with 16 points and a career-high tying 10 rebounds, to go along with a career-high three blocked shots. Senior forward Morgan Grim added 10 points, eight rebounds and a career-high three blocked shots. USU finished the game shooting a season-high 65.1 percent (28-43), including 57.1 percent from three-point range (4-7) and 75.0 percent at the free throw line (12-16). FS shot 37.9 percent from the field (22-58), 18.8 percent from three-point range (3-16) and 75.0 percent at the free throw line (6-8). Against the Wolf Pack, senior guard Brockeith Pane tied his season-high with 21 points to go along with six assists and a season-high tying five rebounds. Medlin added 20 points, while Grim finished with 16 points and eight rebounds. USU shot 50.0 percent overall (23-46), including 50.0 percent from three (7-14) and 75.0 percent at the line (18-24). UN shot 48.3 percent (28-58), including 38.5 percent from behind the arc (10-26) and 63.2 percent at the line (12-19).

Sat., Jan. 14 --- at Idaho State Open, All Day
Utah State's indoor track and field teams will begin its 2012 season on Saturday, Jan. 14 when it travels to Pocatello, Idaho to compete in the Snake River Open. The Aggie men have won the past two Western Athletic Conference Indoor Championships, while the Aggie women have finished second each of the past two seasons.

Utah State posted a 2-0 record last week with a pair of home wins against Asbury (83-53) and Utah Valley (61-43). Against the Eagles, junior center Banna Diop had 13 points, while senior guard Brooke Jackson added 11 points. USU shot 56.9 percent in the game (37-65), including 41.2 percent from three-point range (7-17) and 66.7 percent at the free throw line (2-3). Asbury shot 36.4 percent (20-55), including 36.4 percent from three (8-22) and 50.0 percent at the line (5-10). Against the Wolverines, senior forward Ashlee Brown scored 13 points to go along with eight rebounds, while Jackson had 13 points and seven boards. Freshman guard Elise Nelson had 12 points and eight rebounds, and senior forward Maddy Plunkett finished the game with 10 points and eight rebounds. USU shot 32.1 percent overall (17-53), including 19.0 percent from behind the arc (4-21) and 69.7 percent at the line (23-33). UVU shot 28.0 percent overall (14-50), including 14.3 percent from three (2-14) and 72.2 percent at the line (13-18).

Utah State's gymnastics team begins its 2012 season on Friday, Jan. 13 with a dual at No. 5 Utah at 7 p.m. USU returns nine letterwinners to go along with seven freshmen from last year's team that finished with a 3-18 overall record and 1-4 WAC mark. Utah State placed fifth at the 2011 WAC Championships, and five Aggies competed at the NCAA Regionals in all four individual events and two all-around positions.
