• Utah State (12-5, 2-0) will continue Western Athletic Conference play at home this weekend as it hosts Boise State (12-4, 3-1) on Thursday, Jan. 17 and Idaho (4-11, 1-3) on Saturday, Jan. 19 with both games beginning at 7 p.m. in the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum. The game against Idaho will be televised live on KJZZ-TV. Utah State is riding a season-high seven-game winning streak and has won nine of its last 10 games after starting the year with a 3-4 record. USU is 19-6 all-time against Boise State and 26-12 all-time against Idaho. Last week, Utah State recorded a 74-62 home win against New Mexico State as junior forward Gary Wilkinson scored 18 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Senior All-American guard Jaycee Carroll added 15 points and seven boards, while senior forward Stephen DuCharme came off the bench and contributed 13 points and seven rebounds. As a team, Utah State shot 45.0 percent from the field and limited NMSU to just 35.3 percent shooting, including 26.7 percent from behind the arc. On the year, Utah State is led by Carroll who is averaging 21.2 points and 6.1 rebounds, while shooting 52.6 percent from the field, 50.5 percent from three-point range and 92.9 percent from the free throw line. Two other players are scoring in double-figures for the Aggies as Wilkinson is averaging 12.0 points and 5.6 rebounds and DuCharme is averaging 11.1 points and 5.8 rebounds per game. Overall, USU is scoring 71.5 points and shooting 49.2 percent from the field, 38.1 percent from three-point range and 78.5 percent from the free throw line, while its opponents are scoring 66.1 points and shooting 43.0 percent from the field, 35.3 percent from three-point range and 70.9 percent from the free throw line.

• Utah State's men's and women's indoor track and field teams will begin its 2008 season on Friday, Jan. 18 in its own Wilson Motor Invitational, which is scheduled to begin at 2:30 p.m. in the George Nelson Fieldhouse on the USU campus. Teams other than Utah State to compete include Idaho State, Southern Utah, Utah Valley and Utah. USU ended the 2007 season with the men finishing second at the WAC Indoor Championships, while the women placed fourth.

• Utah State (6-9, 2-1) will continue Western Athletic Conference play this week with a pair of road games at Boise State (9-6, 1-2) on Thursday, Jan. 17 at 7 p.m., and at Idaho (1-14, 0-3) on Saturday, Jan. 19 at 8 p.m. (MT). USU is 2-11 all-time against Boise State and 3-8 all-time against Idaho. Last week, Utah State defeated Hawai'i, 55-48, before losing at New Mexico State, 71-56. Against the Rainbow Wahine, senior forward Jenny Gross scored 11 points to go along with four rebounds, while senior guard Taylor Richards added 10 points and five rebounds. The Aggies shot just 31.7 percent in the game, but forced 33 turnovers to offset 41.7 percent shooting by Hawai'i. Against NMSU, senior forward Jamelah Brown led the team with 14 points and seven rebounds, while Richards added 11 points and four rebounds. In the game, USU shot just 30.4 percent as compared to 55.3 percent shooting for the southern Aggies. On the season, junior guard Danyelle Snelgro is leading the team with 10.1 points per game, while Richards is also averaging 10.1 points. Overall, Utah State is scoring 61.5 points and shooting 38.2 percent from the field, 35.8 percent from three-point range and 73.7 percent from the free throw line, while its opponents are scoring 62.8 points and shooting 43.3 percent from the field, 35.8 percent from three-point range and 67.6 percent from the free throw line.

• Utah State's gymnastics team will host Sacramento State on Friday, Jan. 18 at 6:30 p.m. in the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum in its home opener. USU began the 2008 season with a 192.625-187.925 loss at Boise State Friday night as it scored a 46.950 on bars, a 47.950 on vault, a 46.625 on floor and a 46.400 on beam. Sophomore Heather Heinrich led USU as she won the all-around with a score of 36.775. Freshman Nicole Simoneau was the only other individual winner for USU during the meet as she claimed top honors on the uneven bars with a score of 9.800. Freshman Chelsea Marquardt had the Aggies best finish on both the beam and vault as she placed third in both events with scores of 9.550 and 9.700, respectively. Senior Megan Tschida paced USU on the floor exercise as she tied for fourth with a score of 9.725.

• Utah State's men's tennis team will continue its spring season this week with a match at Boise State on Thursday and against Montana State in Boise on Friday. Last week, USU dropped a 5-2 decision at No. 68 Brigham Young. Sophomore Oscar Ericsson led the Aggies in its season opener as he recorded a 6-7, 2-3, ret., win at No. 2 singles and teamed with senior Fernando Gallegos to notch an 8-6 win at No. 2 doubles. Freshman Jakob Asplund and senior Jonas Tyden recorded a 9-8 win at No. 1 doubles, while sophomore Matt Searle and senior Mike Banks notched a 9-8 win at No. 3 doubles.

• Utah State's women's tennis team will begin its 2008 Spring season on Friday, Jan. 18 in a dual meet at Brigham Young at 4 p.m. The Aggies played in two open tournaments during the fall season at BYU and at Utah and was led by sophomore Brianna Harris who recorded a 2-3 record in singles play and a 1-2 record in double competition. Other Aggies who competed in the fall were junior Bridgette Strickland, sophomore Britney Watts and freshman Hailey Swenson.
