Utah State Has 41 Student-Athletes Receive Fall Academic All-WAC Honors
Jan. 20, 2010 LOGAN, Utah - The Western Athletic Conference announced its fall all-academic teams on Wednesday and Utah State had 41 student-athletes recognized from the sports of cross country, football, soccer and volleyball. Of its 41 academic all-WAC selections, Utah State had 11 student-athletes from both football and soccer honored, along with nine student-athletes from women's cross country, and five from men's cross country and volleyball. Soccer's 11 honorees was tied with Fresno State for the most in the conference in that sport. Boise State had 45 fall academic all-WAC honorees to lead the WAC, followed by Fresno State (44), Utah State (41), San Jose State (41), Hawai'i (34), New Mexico State (33), Nevada (28) and Louisiana Tech (21). Senior Erin Stratton, who competes in cross country, and both indoor and outdoor track, has now earned academic all-WAC honors seven times in her career, while senior cross country/track athlete Steve Strickland earned his sixth academic all-WAC honor. Student-athletes who earned academic all-conference honors for the fourth time include Alan Bishop and Nnamdi Gwacham from football, and Lindsey Smart from soccer. Furthermore, of the 41 student-athletes to earn fall academic all-WAC honors, 28 are receiving the accolade for at least the second time. To be eligible for the fall academic team, a student-athlete must have completed one academic year, have at least a 3.0 cumulative grade-point average and have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's contests.
