Utah State's Fall Sports Lead Mountain West With 61 Student-Athletes Earning Academic All-Conference Honors
The Mountain West announced its fall all-academic teams Thursday and Utah State led the conference as it had 61 student-athletes recognized from the sports of cross country, football, soccer and volleyball.

The Mountain West announced its fall all-academic teams Thursday and Utah State led the conference as it had 61 student-athletes recognized from the sports of cross country, football, soccer and volleyball.

Of its 61 academic all-Mountain West selections, Utah State had 22 student-athletes from football honored, along with 17 student-athletes from soccer, eight from women's cross country, and seven from both men's cross country and volleyball. Soccer's 17 honorees were tied for first in the conference, while football's 22 selections were second and women cross country's eight selections were tied for second.

Utah State led the Mountain West with 61 all-academic honorees, New Mexico was second with 57 honorees, Boise State was third with 55 academic all-MW performers and Fresno State was fourth with 53 honorees. San José State and Wyoming tied for fifth with 50 academic all-MW performers, followed by Colorado State (47), UNLV (39), San Diego State (35), Nevada (34), Air Force (32) and Hawai'i (21) who is a football-only affiliate.

Senior Kyle McKenna, who competes in cross country, and both indoor and outdoor track for Utah State, has now earned academic all-conference honors nine times in his career, including three times in cross country. Junior cross country/track athlete Brittany Bushman has now earned academic all-conference honors seven times, including three times in cross country, while junior cross country/track athletes Ashley Robison and Eric Shellhorn both earned their sixth academic all-conference honor and their third in cross country. Junior volleyball/track athlete Rachel Orr also earned her sixth academic all-conference honor this fall, including her third in volleyball. And sophomore cross country/track athlete Chris Martinez earned his fifth academic all-conference honor this fall, including his second in cross country.

Student-athletes who are earning academic all-conference honors for the fourth time include track athletes Tom Derr, Kade Jensen, Kelsey Girardelli and Amanda Stoudt, football players Jake Doughty, Jamie Markosian, Travis Reynolds and Eric Schultz, and women's soccer players Jennifer Flynn and Mari Miyashiro. Three-time honorees include football players Keegan Andersen, B.J. Larsen and Nate Needham, women's soccer players Shay Haddow, Lexie Morgan and Taryn Rose, and volleyball players Paige Neves, Ashlan Rogers-Court and Kaitlyn VanHoff.

Furthermore, of the 61 student-athletes to earn fall academic all-Mountain West honors for Utah State, 38 are receiving the accolade for at least the second time.

To be eligible for selection, student-athletes must have completed at least one academic term at the member institution while maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better, and be a starter or significant contributor on their athletic team.
