• Utah State men's basketball (12-9, 5-4) continues its 2014-15 season this week with a pair of Mountain West games as it hosts Boise State (15-6, 5-3) on Tuesday, Feb. 3 at 7:30 p.m. in a game that will be televised nationally on CBS Sports Network (Comcast Ch. 269/753HD, Dish Network Ch. 158, DirecTV Ch. 221), and plays at New Mexico (14-7, 6-3) on Saturday, Feb. 7 at 4 p.m. in a game that will be televised regionally on ROOT Sports (Comcast Ch. 52/693HD, Dish Network Ch. 414, DirecTV Ch. 683) (MT). USU is 30-9 all-time against the Broncos including an 18-0 home record, and 19-7 all-time against the Lobos including a 5-2 road record.

• Utah State posted a 1-1 Mountain West record last week with a 56-44 home win against Wyoming and a 62-42 road loss at San Diego State. Against the Cowboys, redshirt freshman forward David Collette scored 16 points and junior guard Chris Smith had 13 points. USU finished the game shooting 48.0 percent (24-50), including 35.7 percent from three-point range (5-14) and 37.5 percent at the free throw line (3-8). UW shot 36.0 percent (18-50), including 30.4 percent from behind the arc (7-23) and 33.3 percent at the charity stripe (1-3). Against the Aztecs, sophomore wing Jalen Moore had 13 points and nine rebounds. USU finished the game shooting a season-low 29.2 percent (14-48), including 35.3 percent from three-point range (6-17) and 47.1 percent at the free throw line. SDSU shot 43.6 percent (24-55), including 50.0 percent from behind the arc (9-18) and 62.5 percent at the charity stripe (5-8).

• Utah State gymnastics (3-2, 1-2) continues its 2015 season this week with a home meet against Seattle Pacific on Friday, Feb. 6 at 7 p.m.

Last Week
2nd, 194.275 --- BOISE STATE/UC DAVIS
• Utah State came in second at its home tri-meet against No. 12 Boise State and UC Davis last weekend as the Broncos won the meet with a 195.975, USU posted a 194.275 and UC Davis took third with a 193.550. Senior Sarah Landes won the all-around for USU with a season-best 39.225 (vault: 9.850, bars: 9.800, beam: 9.775, floor: 9.800), while junior McKinzey Martinez placed fourth with a 38.125 (vault: 9.825, bars: 9.050, beam: 9.750, floor: 9.50), and sophomore Bailey McIntire took fifth with a 37.125 (vault: 9.750, bars: 8.350, beam: 9.250, floor: 9.775). Landes took second on the vault with a season-high 9.850, and Martinez placed fourth with a 9.825. Landes recorded her season-high on bars with a 9.800, good for third. Redshirt freshman Keri Peel tied her career-high on bars with a 9.775, tying junior teammate Joanna Cuba for fifth-place. On beam, junior Michelle Yasukochi took second with a 9.850, while Landes and redshirt sophomore Hayley Sanzotti both tied for seventh with a 9.775. And on floor, Landes recorded a season-high 9.800 to take second-place and McIntire tied for sixth with a 9.775.

• Utah State women's basketball (6-15, 3-6) continues its 2014-15 season this week with two Mountain West games as it plays at Boise State (13-6, 5-3) on Wednesday, Feb. 4 at 7 p.m. and hosts New Mexico (10-10, 6-3) on Saturday, Feb. 7 at 2 p.m. USU is 8-19 all-time against the Broncos and 5-11 all-time against the Lobos. • Utah State posted an 0-2 Mountain West record last week with an 86-51 loss at Wyoming, followed by a 70-59 home loss to San Diego State. Against the Cowgirls, freshman guard Funda Nakkasoglu scored 22 points. USU finished the game shooting 37.3 percent overall (22-59), including 25.0 percent from three-point range (4-16) and 75.0 percent at the free throw line (3-4). UW shot 52.7 percent (29-55), including 68.4 percent from behind the arc (13-19) and 88.2 percent at the charity stripe (15-17). Against the Aztecs, senior guard Jasmine Porter scored 13 points and sophomore forward Julianne Anchling had 10 points. USU finished the game shooting 38.6 percent (22-57), including 25.0 percent from three-point range (3-12) and 70.6 percent at the free throw line (12-17). SDSU shot 37.1 percent (23-62), including 40.0 percent from behind the arc (4-10) and 76.9 percent at the charity stripe (20-26).

• Utah State posted a 1-1 record last week with a 7-0 home win against Montana and a 6-1 loss at No. 56 Utah. Against the Grizzlies, sophomore Jack Swindells won in straight sets at No. 1 singles (6-0, 6-1), sophomore Dennis Baumgartner won in straight sets at No. 2 singles (6-4, 6-4), senior Marcus Fritz won in straight sets at No. 3 singles (6-4, 6-2), sophomore Karan Salwan won in straight sets at No. 4 singles (6-1, 6-2), sophomore Sebastian Schneider won in three sets at No. 5 singles (5-7, 7-5, 10-8) and senior Matt Sweet won in straight sets at No. 6 singles (6-2, 6-1). USU also claimed the doubles point as Fritz and Baumgartner posted a 6-1 win at the first position, Swindells and Sweet notched a 6-3 win at the second position, and Salwan teamed with Schneider for a 6-4 win at the third position. Against the Utes, Salwan posted USU's only point with a win in three sets at No. 5 singles (4-6, 6-4, 10-2), while Swindells and Sweet notched USU's only doubles win with a 6-2 victory at the second position.

• Utah State women's tennis (4-0, 0-0) continues its 2015 spring season this week with two road matches as it plays at Iowa State on Saturday, Feb. 7 at 12 p.m. (MT), and at Iowa on Sunday, Feb. 8 at 10 a.m. (MT).

W, 4-3 --- at No. 55 BYU
• Utah State posted a 4-3 win at No. 55 BYU last week to post its first-ever win against the Cougars in eight meetings. In singles play, senior McKenzie Davis posted a straight sets win at the No. 1 spot (6-0, 6-3), sophomore Nini Guensler won in straight sets at the No. 2 spot (7-5, 7-6) and freshman Meghan Lyall won in three sets at the No. 6 spot (2-6, 6-4, 6-3). USU also claimed the doubles point as Lyall and junior Kallie Sperry recorded a 6-4 win at the first position, while Davis and freshman Maggie O'Meara notched a 6-1 win at the third position.

• Utah State's indoor track & field teams will continue its 2015 season this weekend at the Boise State hosted Jackson's/New Balance Invitational on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 6-7.

NTS --- at New Mexico Invitational
• Utah State's men and women's track and field teams set two school records and collected 11 top-five finishes at the New Mexico Team Invitational last weekend. Leading the Aggie women was senior Sam Nielson who won the triple jump with a school-record leap of 12.85m (42-2.00), while the Aggie men's 4x400m relay team (freshman Clay Lambourne, junior Tanner Hunt, junior Cole Lambourne and junior Parker Bluth) set a school record with its third-place time of 3:11.15. Junior Cole Lambourne also won an individual title on Saturday with a personal-best time of 46.75 to win the 400m, which ranks as the second-fastest time in school history in that event. Other top performances for the Aggie men included freshman Tyus Kuykendall placing second in the 600m (1:21.98), senior Eric Shellhorn taking third in the mile (4:06.10), and senior Nic Bowens finishing third in the 200m with a time of 21.20, which is .09 off his school-record time, and placing sixth in the 60m with a time of 6.68, which is .07 off his school-record time. Additionally, junior Parker Bluth placed fourth in the 200m (21.21) and sophomore Colby Wilson finished fifth in the 3,000m (8:39.27). On the women's side, freshman Caroline Weiler placed fourth in the mile 5:04.44, and senior Jodi Williams finished fifth in the high jump with a leap of 1.74m (5-08.50), which ranks ninth all-time in school history. Additionally, senior Chari Hawkins placed fifth in the long jump with a distance of 5.86m (19-02.75), and was sixth in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.56, which is .23 off her school-record time.

• Utah State's softball team (0-0, 0-0) begins its 2015 season this weekend at the Iowa State hosted Cyclone Invitational. USU will begin the tournament against host Iowa State (0-0) on Friday, Feb. 6 at 4:30 p.m. (MT). USU will then play both South Dakota State (0-0) and Iowa State on Saturday, Feb. 7 at 8:30 a.m. (MT) and 11 a.m. (MT), respectively, before concluding the tournament against South Dakota State on Sunday, Feb. 8 at 8 a.m. (MT).

Preseason Notes
USU returns nine starters and 12 letterwinners from last year's team that ended the season 18-37 and 6-18 in Mountain West play. Leading the way for USU this spring is sophomore third baseman Victoria Saucedo and junior pitcher Noelle Johnson, Saucedo was named the Mountain West Freshman of the Year and a first-team all-Mountain West selection last year as she hit .371 with seven home runs, 31 runs batted in and 31 runs scored. Johnson finished with a 16-22 record a year ago as she had a 3.47 earned run average in 234.1 innings pitched. On the season, Johnson struck out 218 batters to set the single-season school record, while walking 67.
