USU Leads WAC With 42 Fall Academic All-Conference Selections
Feb. 6, 2007 LOGAN, Utah - Utah State landed a league-high 42 of its student-athletes on the Fall Academic all-Western Athletic Conference teams it was announced by the conference office on Tuesday. Utah State's 42 honorees were five more than Boise State, which produced 37 award winners. Fresno State was third with 32 selections, while San Jose State was fourth with 26 picks. Among USU's 42 honorees were 15 soccer players and 12 football players. Women's cross country and volleyball each had six selections, while men's cross country had three athletes tabbed to the teams. Six USU student-athletes that were recognized for their academic success, were also athletic all-conference selections earlier this fall. That list includes men's cross country runners Vance Twitchell and Seth Wold, women's runners Amy Egan, Stacie Lifferth and Jennifer Twitchell and soccer player Charity Weston. Weston, a senior majoring in PE-Teaching was a first-team athletic and academic pick as a junior as well. Malik Cin, a senior on the football team, was named to the team after earning second-team all-conference athletic honors in the fall. To be eligible, a student-athlete must have completed at least one academic year, have at least a 3.0 cumulative grade point average and have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's contests.
