Utah State men's basketball (14-9, 4-7) will continue Mountain West play this week with a road game at Colorado State (14-10, 5-6) on Tuesday, Feb. 11 at 7:15 p.m., and a home game against UNLV (16-8, 7-4) on Saturday, Feb. 15 at 2 p.m. Both games will be televised live on CBS Sports Network (Comcast Ch. 269/753HD, Dish Network Ch. 158, DirecTV Ch. 221). USU is 53-35 all-time against the Rams including a 5-17 road record, and 3-28 all-time against the Rebels including a 2-11 home record.

Utah State went 2-0 in Mountain West play last week with an 83-75 home win against Nevada, followed by a 76-70 home win against Boise State. Against the Wolf Pack, senior guard/forward Spencer Butterfield recorded his third double-double this season and 10th of his career with 20 points and 11 rebounds, while senior center Jarred Shaw notched his fourth double-double this season and 13th of his career with 17 points and a season-high tying 13 rebounds. Senior guard Preston Medlin added 14 points, while sophomore forward Kyle Davis scored 12 points. USU finished the game shooting 49.1 percent (26-53), including 42.9 percent from three-point range (6-14) and 80.6 percent at the free throw line (25-31). UN shot 42.4 percent (28-66), including 25.0 percent from three (5-20) and 73.7 percent at the line (14-19). Against the Broncos, Medlin scored 19 points, Shaw had 17 points and 10 rebounds, Davis had 15 points and a career-high five assists, and Butterfield had 13 points. USU shot 56.9 percent (29-51), including 44.4 percent from three (4-9) and 70.0 percent at the line (14-20). BSU shot 46.4 percent (26-56), including 38.1 percent from behind the arc (8-21) and 76.9 percent at the charity stripe (10-13).

Utah State gymnastics (5-4) continues its 2014 season with a quad meet at Oregon State and versus Boise State and Seattle Pacific on Saturday, Feb. 15 at 7 p.m. (MT).

Utah State lost a dual meet at BYU by a final score of 194.900-194.350 last weekend. USU notched a 48.825 on vault, 48.675 on bars, 48.000 on beam and a season-high 48.850 on floor, contributing to the 194.350 total. BYU finished with an overall score of 194.900, landing a 49.150 on vault, 48.475 on bars, 47.975 on beam and 49.300 on floor. Junior Sarah Landes finished second in the all-around with a season-best 39.175 as she tied for fourth on vault (9.800), tied for first on bars (9.825), tied for third on beam (9.775) and finished seventh on floor (9.775). Sophomore Jillian Chappel was part of a three-way tie for fourth-place on vault with Landes, notching a 9.800. Freshmen Bailey McIntire and Keri Peel shared the fifth-place spot on bars with a 9.725, while McInitre also tied for second on floor with a 9.850. Sophomore Stefanie Daley matched Landes score on beam (9.775) to tie for third.

USU is 9-11 all-time against the Rams and 2-14 all-time against the Rebels.

Utah State dropped a pair of Mountain West road games last week with a 70-66 loss at Nevada and an 83-62 loss at Boise State. Against the Wolf Pack, senior guard Jennifer Schlott scored 32 points, marking her sixth 30-point game of the season. Sophomore guard/forward Stephanie Bairstow added 13 points as USU shot 43.3 percent from the field (26-60), 25.0 percent from three-point range (3-12) and 64.7 percent at the free throw line (11-17). UN shot 35.7 percent (25-70), including 33.3 percent from three (7-21) and 48.1 percent from the line (13-27). Against the Broncos, Schlott scored 15 points, junior guard Elise Nelson recorded her second career double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds, and sophomore guard Makenlee Williams added 10 points. USU finished the game shooting 37.5 percent (24-64), including 57.1 percent from three-point range (8-14) and 75.0 percent at the free throw line (6-8). BSU shot 42.2 percent (27-64), including 37.5 percent from three (9-24) and 90.9 percent at the line (20-22).

Utah State men's tennis (3-5, 0-0) will continue its 2014 season next week with a pair of home matches as it hosts Weber State and Mesa State on Saturday, Feb. 22 at 9 a.m. and 1 p.m., respectively.

Utah State posted a 1-1 record last week with a 5-2 home win against Seattle and a 7-0 loss at Utah. Against the Redhawks, freshman Dennis Baumgartner won in straight sets at No. 1 singles (6-2, 6-3), senior Fredrik Peterson won in straight sets at No. 3 singles (6-3, 6-5), freshman Sebastian Schneider won in three sets at No. 4 singles (3-6, 6-3, 6-4), and junior Matt Sweet posted a straight sets win at No. 5 singles (6-4, 6-4). USU also won the doubles point as Sweet teamed with Schneider for a 6-2 win at the second position, while Peterson teamed with junior Sean Levesque for a 6-4 win at the third position. Against the Utes, USU lost all six singles matches and all three doubles matches. Other Aggies to compete during the week included senior Andrew Whiting, and juniors Marcus Fritz and Curran Wearmouth.

Utah State posted a 6-1 road win at Idaho State last week in its only match. In singles play, junior McKenzie Davis won in straight sets (6-2, 6-0) at the No. 1 spot, freshman Nini Guensler won in straight sets (6-2, 6-0) at the No. 3 spot, freshman Lexi Turley won in straight sets (6-3, 6-2) at the No. 4 spot, freshman Cassidy Branstine won in straight sets (7-5, 7-5) at the No. 5 spot, and freshman Katie Sweet won in straight sets (7-5, 6-4) at the No. 6 spot. USU also claimed the doubles point as Davis and sophomore Kallie Sperry recorded a 6-2 win at the first position, while Guensler and Turley notched a 6-2 win at the second position.

Utah State's softball team (4-2) will continue its 2014 season on Friday, Feb. 28 at the San Diego Classic. USU will begin the tournament with two games on Friday, Feb. 28 as it plays the host Toreros at 5:30 p.m. (MT) and then faces Grand Canyon at 8 p.m. (MT). On Saturday, Mar. 1, USU will play Lehigh at 10 a.m. (MT) and Mississippi at 5:30 p.m. (MT). And on Sunday, Mar. 2, USU will conclude the tournament against Illinois-Chicago at 11 a.m. (MT).

Sophomore pitcher Noelle Johnson helped Utah State to a 4-2 record at the Southern Utah hosted Red Desert Classic last weekend as USU posted wins against Southern Utah (8-0), East Carolina (12-3), UT Arlington (5-0) and Nebraska-Omaha (6-0), and lost to Idaho State (10-7) and Grand Canyon (5-3). Johnson's best game of the tournament was in the finale against UNO as she set a USU single game school record with 16 strikeouts in a two-hit shutout win over seven innings. Johnson started the tournament with a two-hit, five-inning shutout win against the Thunderbirds, before allowing seven earned runs on eight hits in 3.1 innings in taking the loss against the Bengals. She then allowed one earned run on four hits in 5.0 innings of no decision work against the Lopes. Against the Pirates, she allowed two earned runs on five hits, while striking out six in five innings for the win. She then picked up her first save of the season against the UTA Mavericks as she pitched 4.0 innings and allowed just one hit, while striking out five batters. For the tournament, Johnson posted a 3-1 record to go along with one save as she struck out 40 batters, while allowing 22 hits and 10 earned runs over 29.1 innings for a 2.39 earned run average.

Utah State's indoor track & field teams will continue its 2014 season this week with split squads at three different meets as USU will compete at the New Mexico hosted Don Kirby Collegiate Elite Invitational and the Washington hosted Husky Classic on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 14-15, and at the Boise State Team Challenge on Saturday, Feb. 15.

Utah State grabbed the top three places in both the 60m dash and the shot put as part of 22 top-three finishes at the Boise State hosted Bronco Invitational last weekend. Junior Nic Bowens grabbed the top spot in the 60m with a time of 6.72 and was followed by seniors Silas Pimentel (6.84) and Jacob Bautista Jr. (6.88), respectively, for second and third. Bowens also collected the title in the 200m, finishing in 21.33. Sophomore Cole Lambourne finished right behind Bowens, placing second after crossing the finish line in 21.62. Senior Bryce Hall won the shot put with a toss of 16.40m (53-09.75), while junior Michael Cardinal and sophomore Kevin Allen collected the second and third spots with throws of 16.01m (52-06.50) and 15.67m (51-05.00), respectively. In addition to his shot put title, Hall placed second in the weight throw with a hurl of 18.36m (60-03.00). Senior Kenny Hamlett collected a pair of second-place finishes at the meet, leaping 6.66m (21-10.25) in the long jump as well as 14.33m (47-00.25) in the triple jump. Junior Kalon Weston chipped in with a second-place finish in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.40. Weston was also a part of the 4x400m relay team, along with Jacob Bautista Jr., Dan Mosman and Austin Groll, that placed second with a time of 3:18.61. Freshman Austin Orr added to the strong performances with a third-place finish in the mile (4:23.99). Junior Travis Johnson (14.16m/46-05.50) and freshman Jay Coleman Merrill (1.95m/6-04.75) added third-place finishes of their own in the triple jump and high jump, respectively. For the Aggie women, juniors Cree Taylor (8.76) and Rachel Orr (1.70m/5-07.00) led the way with titles in the 60m hurdles and high jump, respectively. Senior Bailee Whitworth took second in the 200m with a time of 24.96 and junior Chari Hawkins added a second-place finish of her own in the long jump with a leap of 5.79m (19-00.00). Whitworth also placed third in the 60m dash with a time of 7.78. The women's 4x400m relay team (Brittany Rawlins, Chalese West, Laycee Elliott, Jensen Williams) finished in 3:54.82 to nab third.

Utah State men's golf will begin its 2014 spring season on Monday and Tuesday, Feb. 10-11 in St. George, Utah at the Southern Utah hosted Pat Hicks Thunderbird Invitational. The two-day tournament will be held at the Sunbrook Golf Club. During its fall season, Utah State played in five tournaments with its best finish coming at the Utah Invitational as USU finished tied for second-place out of nine teams. Sophomore Seokwon Jeon led Utah State during the fall season as he had a stroke average of 71.47 over 15 rounds, including winning the Utah Invitational with a collegiate-best 7-under 206 (67-71-68). Senior Tanner Higham had a stroke average of 72.13 over 15 rounds last fall and won the Boise State hosted Dash Thomas Memorial with a collegiate-best 8-under 205 (71-67-67).
