• Utah State (20-9, 9-4) will conclude its regular season with three games this week as it hosts Fresno State (13-15, 5-8) on Monday, Mar. 3 at 7 p.m., followed by a pair of road games at Boise State (21-7, 11-3) on Thursday, Mar. 6 at 7 p.m., and at Idaho (7-19, 4-10) on Saturday, Mar. 8 at 8 p.m. USU won at Fresno State, 77-72, earlier this year, and defeated both Boise State and Idaho at home by scores of 82-78 and 79-64, respectively. All-time, the Aggies are 22-19 against Fresno State, 20-6 against Boise State and 27-12 against Idaho. Last week, Utah State recorded an easy 86-59 home win against Louisiana Tech as senior All-American guard Jaycee Carroll scored 30 points, while junior forward Gary Wilkinson added 19 points and 10 rebounds. As a team, USU shot a season-high 67.3 percent from the field and held LTU to just 40.4 percent shooting. On the season, Utah State is led by Carroll who is averaging 22.3 points and 6.1 rebounds per game and shooting 53.0 percent from the field, 50.3 percent from three-point range and 91.7 percent from the free throw line, while Wilkinson is averaging 13.2 points and 6.8 rebounds and shooting 57.4 percent from the field and 82.2 percent from the free throw line. As a team, USU is averaging 73.1 points and shooting 51.1 percent from the field, 39.7 percent from three-point range and 78.7 percent from the free throw line, while its opponents are scoring 68.2 points and shooting 43.5 percent from the field, 37.3 percent from three-point range and 70.4 percent from the free throw line.

This Week Mon.-Tues., Mar. 3-4 --- at Braveheart Classic, Riverside, Calif., All Day

• Utah State's men's golf team will return to action this week as it plays at the Braveheart Classic hosted by UC Riverside on Monday and Tuesday. USU began its 2008 spring season with a 16th-place finish at the fourth annual Pat Hicks Invitational hosted by Southern Utah University. The Aggies finished the two-day, 36-hole tournament, with a 41-over par 617 (309-308). Senior Jeremy Pack led Utah State with a 36-hole score of 152 with rounds of 79 and 73 putting him in a tie for 70th place. Junior Devin Daniels tied for 75th with a score of 153 (80-73), while junior Tyler Labrum tied for 81st with a combined score of 155 (74-81). Freshmen Thad Truman and Toph Peterson also competed for USU and finished in a tie for 99th and 106th, respectively, with scores of 159 and 162.

• Utah State (9-17, 5-9) will conclude its regular season with a pair of home games against Boise State (20-6, 12-2) on Thursday, Mar. 6 and Idaho (2-24, 1-13) on Saturday Mar. 8. Both games will begin at 7 p.m. in the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum. USU is 2-12 all-time against the Broncos and 3-9 all-time against the Vandals. Last week, senior forward Jenny Gross scored 14 points and added five rebounds in Utah State's 62-47 loss at Louisiana Tech, while senior forward Jamelah Brown had 10 points. USU shot 31.6 percent in the game as compared to 41.4 percent shooting for LTU. On the season, senior guard Taylor Richards is leading the team with 10.2 points per game, while junior guard Danyelle Snelgro is averaging 9.6 points. As a team, Utah State is scoring 59.0 points on the season and shooting 37.6 percentage from the field, 29.9 percent from three-point range and 69.8 percent from the free throw line, while its opponents are scoring 63.9 points and shooting 43.2 percent from the field, 34.4 percent from three-point range and 66.5 percent from the free throw line.

GYMNASTICS

• Utah State's gymnastics team (3-10, 1-5) will remain home this week and host San Jose State (11-2) on Friday, Mar. 7 at 6:30 p.m. in the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum. Last week, USU lost to No. 13 Denver 195.250-192.300. Utah State began the meet with a 48.425 on vault, then posted a season-high 48.650 on bars, followed by a 46.325 on beam and a season-high 48.900 on the floor. Freshman Nicole Simoneau tied her season-best for the third time this season with a 9.850 in winning the bars, while freshman Lyndsie Boone was the Aggies' top placer in the all-around with a 38.250 in just her second all-around outing this season. Fellow freshman Jasmine Minion was the top USU gymnast on vault with a 9.800, good for third-place, while junior Nicki Felley finished third on beam with a season-best 9.750, just shy of her career-high 9.825. Sophomore Heather Heinrich posted a new career-best on floor with a 9.825 in placing in a tie for third with Felley, who tied a season-high with the 9.825. Boone and classmate Jackie Dillon followed in a tie for fifth with 9.800's, both posting season-bests.

INDOOR TRACK & FIELD

This Week Sat, Mar. 8 --- at Last Chance Meet, Seattle, Wash., All Day

• Utah State's indoor track and field teams will travel to Seattle, Wash., this week to compete in its last meet before the NCAA Championships. Last weekend, the USU men won its first-ever WAC Championship, while the women finished fourth last weekend in Boise, Idaho. Junior Nick Karren was named the WAC Indoor Track Athlete of the Year as he won the 60m hurdles (8.05) and the 400m (47.61), while freshman Silas Pimentel was named Freshman of the Year as he came in second in both the 60m (6.92) and 200m (21.48). Junior John Strang got the Aggie men going as he won the heptathlon with a school-record 5,506 points. Strang and sophomore Casey Parker also tied for second in the high jump with marks of 6-9. Junior Seth Wold won the 5000m with a time of 14:53.26, followed by sophomore Steve Strickland, who placed third with a season-best time of 14:55.93. Strickland also won the 3,000m with a time of 8:28.45, while Wold placed fourth in the event with a time of 8:36.92. Freshman Hunter Nelson finished in fifth-place in the 3,000m with a time of 8:40.00 and sophomore Jared Glenn recorded a season best as he came in sixth-place with a 8:42.93. The men's 4x400 relay team (junior Brandon Waller, junior Keith Williams, senior Brett Knighton and Karren) also took first-place with a time of 3:13.33, which is their season best. Utah State men's team of sophomore Jason Holt, freshman Chio Lopez, and juniors Andrew Niccoli and Brandon Waller, also won the distance medley with a time of 10:05.63. The Aggie women made the distance medley sweep complete with sophomore Erin Stratton and seniors Cachet Webb, Stacie Lifferth and Amy Egan placing first as they clocked a time of 12:08.65. Stratton also won the mile with a time of 5:00.77 and Egan placed second and third in the 3,000m and 800m with times of 10:14.33 and 2:14.52. Sophomore Krista Larson also broke the school indoor record in the 20-pound weight throw as she placed second with a throw of 58-5.75.

SOFTBALL

• Utah State's softball team (2-7) will return to action this week as it plays at Colorado State (11-2) on Saturday and Sunday, Mar, 8-9 in a three-game series. In its last competition, USU recorded a 2-2 record at the Campbell Cartier Classic in San Diego, Calif., as it defeated UC Santa Barbara (4-3) and Indiana (6-5), and lost to Tulsa (9-8) and host San Diego State (4-0). Freshman shortstop Kelley Kaneshiro led USU during the tournament as she hit .400 during the weekend. Against Tulsa, Kaneshiro went 3-for-3 at the plate, hitting a single, a double and her first career home run as she had three RBI in the game. She also hit a single against Indiana and tallied another RBI. On the season, sophomore outfielder Emily Reilly leads the tam with a .333 batting average, while junior pitcher Lindsey Benson has a 2-6 record and a 4.58 ERA in seven starts. As a team, Utah State is hitting .210 on the season as compared to a .311 batting average for its opponents. USU also has a team ERA of 6.12 this year, while its opponents ERA is 3.05.

• Utah State's men's tennis team (3-10) will play two matches this week as it hosts Montana State-Billings on Tuesday, Mar. 4 at 1 p.m. and Montana State on Friday, Mar. 7 at 5 p.m. Both matches will be played at the Sports Academy & Racquet Club. Last week, USU notched a 1-2 record with a 4-3 win at Idaho State, followed by a 6-1 loss to Weber State and a 5-2 loss at UNLV. Sophomore Oscar Ericsson and senior Jonas Tyden led USU with 2-1 records at No. 2 singles and No. 4 singles, respectively. Other Aggies who won matches during the week include freshman Jakob Asplund who had a 1-2 record at No. 1 singles and junior Matt Braithwaite who notched a 1-2 record at No. 6 singles. Other Aggies who competed were senior Fernando Gallegos at No. 3 singles and sophomore Matt Searle at No. 5 singles.

• Utah State's women's tennis team (2-8) will play three matches this week as it hosts Montana State-Billings on Tuesday, Mar. 4 at 10 a.m., Montana State on Friday, Mar. 7 at 1 p.m., and Portland State on Sunday, Mar. 9 at 9 a.m. All three matches will be played at the Sports Academy & Racquet Club. Last week, Utah State lost at home to Nevada, 7-0. Competing for the Aggies against the Wolf Pack were junior Bridgette Strickland, sophomores Brianna Harris, Marie Livingston and Britney Watts, and freshmen Taylor Perry, Hailey Swenson and Kourtney Young.
