• Utah State men's basketball (17-14, 8-6) is the fourth-seed in the upcoming Western Athletic Conference Tournament in Las Vegas, Nev., and will play fifth-seeded Louisiana Tech (16-15, 6-8) in the quarterfinals on Thursday, Mar. 8 at 9:30 p.m. (MT). If USU advances to the semifinals on Friday, Mar. 9 it would again play at 9:30 p.m. (MT), and the championship game of the WAC Tournament will be on Saturday, Mar. 10 at 10 p.m. (MT) and will be televised on ESPN2.

• Utah State posted a 2-0 road record last week as it won at San Jose State (71-61) and at Hawai'i (61-60). Against the Spartans, sophomore guard Preston Medlin scored 26 points, senior guard Brockeith Pane added 14 points and six assists, and sophomore forward Mitch Bruneel scored 12 points. USU finished the game shooting 55.1 percent from the field (27-49), 47.4 percent from three-point range (9-19), and 66.7 percent at the free throw line (8-12). SJSU shot 38.6 percent from the field (22-57), 27.8 percent from three-point range (5-18), and 85.7 percent at the free throw line (12-14). Against the Rainbow Warriors, Pane had 20 points and Medlin scored 19, while junior forward Kyisean Reed tied his career-high with 10 rebounds and freshman forward Ben Clifford had a career-high tying seven boards. USU finished the game shooting 44.0 percent from the field (22-50), 25.0 percent from three-point range (5-20), and just 46.2 percent at the free throw line (12-26). UH shot 43.8 percent overall (21-48), including 30.0 percent from three (3-10) and 62.5 percent at the charity stripe (15-24).

• Utah State's men's golf team will continue its 2012 spring season on Thursday, Mar. 22 when it travels to Arroyo Grande, Calif., to compete in the Cal Poly Intercollegiate.

Last Week
7th/16 --- at Washington State Getaway
• Utah State finished in seventh-place out of 16 teams at the Washington State hosted Snowman Getaway with a 34-over 898 (301-305-292). During its final round, USU shot a 4-over 292 which was the sixth-best team score in the field. USU's seventh-place team finish is also its best tournament finish this year, in this its seventh event. Freshman Andrew Paulson finished tied for 23rd-place with an 8-over par 224 (74-74-76) to lead USU. Freshman Tanner Jenson finished the tournament tied for 29th with a 9-over 225 (79-72-74), while freshman Brennan Coburn tied for 40th with an 11-over 227 (77-81-69) after carding his best collegiate round during his final 18 holes with a 3-under 69. Sophomore Tanner Higham tied for 44th with a 12-over 228 (71-83-74), and senior Chanse Godderidge tied for 68th with an 18-over 234 (81-78-75).

• Utah State women's basketball (20-8, 11-3) is the second seed in the upcoming Western Athletic Conference Tournament in Las Vegas, Nev., and will play seventh-seeded Nevada (7-22, 3-11) in the quarterfinals on Wednesday, Mar. 7 at 3:30 p.m. (MT). If USU advances to the semifinals on Friday, Mar. 9 it would play at 1 p.m. (MT), and the championship game of the WAC Tournament will be on Saturday, Mar. 10 at 4 p.m. (MT) and will be televised on KMYU TV in Utah.

• Utah State recorded a 2-0 home record last weekend with wins against Hawai'i (85-64) and San Jose State (84-71). Against the Rainbow Wahine, junior guard Devyn Christensen scored 23 points and senior forward Ashlee Brown added 21 points and seven rebounds to go along with a career-high 10 assists. Senior guard Brooke Jackson also scored in double-figures for USU as she had 19 points. USU finished the game shooting 52.7 percent from the field (29-55), 47.1 percent from three-point range (8-17), and was a perfect 19-for-19 at the free throw line. UH shot 44.4 percent (24-54), including 41.7 percent from three (5-12) and 84.6 percent at the line (11-13). Against the Spartans, Christensen scored 20 points and Brown recorded her 10th double-double of the year with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Jackson and sophomore guard Jennifer Schlott each scored 15 points, while junior forward Jenna Johnson finished the game with 12 points, 10 rebounds, six steals and five assists. USU finished the game shooting 41.3 percent from the field (26-63), 45.0 percent from three-point range (9-20) and 88.5 percent at the free throw line (23-26). SJSU shot 45.2 percent overall (28-62), including 35.3 percent from behind the arc (6-17) and 47.4 percent at the charity stripe (9-19).

• Utah State gymnastics (3-9, 1-2) continues its 2012 season this week with a pair of meets as it hosts Brigham Young on Monday, March 5 at 7 p.m., and competes at Southern Utah on Friday, Mar. 9 at 7 p.m.

L, 196.125-192.750 --- at Boise State
• Utah State gymnastics lost a dual meet at No. 16 Boise State last weekend by a final score of 196.125-192.750. USU's team total of 192.750 consisted of scoring a season-high 48.875 on floor, as its top three scores on the season have come in the last three meets. The Aggies also scored a 47.925 on vault, a 48.825 on bars and a 47.125 on beam. Aggie sophomore Paige Jones tied for second in the all-around with a 38.900, while freshman Sarah Landes was fifth with a 38.525 and senior Rebecca Holliday was sixth with a 37.975. Jones also led the Aggies on both bars, tying for third with a 9.825, and vault, tying for fifth with a 9.750. Freshman Susie Miller and Landes tied for third on floor with 9.850's, while redshirt freshman Samantha Wagner was USU's top finisher on beam, tying for fifth with 9.675.

• Utah State's indoor track and field teams will conclude its 2012 season on Friday and Saturday, Mar. 9-10 when it competes in the NCAA Indoor Championships in Boise, Idaho.

• Utah State senior Kim Quinn set a new school record in the 3,000m after finishing in ninth-place with a time of 9.41.93, while fellow senior Sonia Grabowska won the pole vault [4.09m (13-05.00)] at the University of Washington Final Qualifier last weekend. Senior Daniel Howell also competed well as he placed fifth in the men's 3,000m with a personal-best and Western Athletic Conference season-best time of 8:05.30. With the time, Howell moved up to No. 2 in the Aggie record books. Utah State did not have any student-athletes reach automatic qualifying marks during the 2012 season and will wait to see who will be invited to the 2012 NCAA Indoor Championships at Jacksons Track in Nampa, Idaho on March 8-11. The field will be announced on Monday, March 5 by the NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Track and Field Committee.

• Utah State's softball team (8-8) will continue its 2012 season this week as it travels to Long Beach, Calif., to compete in the Long Beach State Invitational. USU will begin the tournament on Friday, March 9 with a pair of games against Pittsburgh and North Carolina at 11:30 a.m. and 2 p.m., respectively. USU will then face Michigan on Saturday, Mar. 10 at 11:30 a.m., before concluding the tournament on Sunday, Mar. 11 against Cal State Fullerton and UCLA at 9 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., respectively.

• Junior pitcher Mandy Harmon (Las Vegas, Nev.) helped Utah State post a 3-2 record last weekend at the San Diego Classic with victories against Long Beach State (10-1), Cal Poly (1-0) and St. Joseph's (4-3), to go along with losses to San Diego (4-0) and Cal State Northridge (4-2). In the Aggies' 1-0 win against Cal Poly, Harmon pitched six innings allowing four hits and striking out three. Harmon then won her fourth game of the season in USU's 4-3 win against St. Joseph's as she allowed two runs on five hits in four innings. For the weekend, Harmon went 2-1 with a 2.50 earned run average and struck out 13 batters.

• Utah State men's tennis (4-5, 0-1) will continue its 2012 season this week in Las Vegas as it plays at UNLV on Friday, Mar. 9 at 11 a.m., and then faces Northern Arizona on Saturday, Mar. 10 at 11 a.m.

• Utah State posted a 1-1 home record last week as it lost to No. 35 Boise State (6-1) and defeated Seattle (5-2). Against the Broncos, senior Nate Ballam was the only Aggie to win a match as he posted a three sets win at No. 6 singles (4-6, 7-5, 10-7). Against the Redhawks, junior Sven Poslusny posted a straight sets win at No. 1 singles (6-3, 6-2), freshman Marcus Fritz won in straight sets at No. 2 singles (6-3, 6-4), freshman Matt Sweet posted a straight sets win at No. 3 singles (6-2, 6-2), and sophomore Frederik Peterson won in straight sets at No. 4 singles (7-5, 7-6). USU also won the doubles point as Poslusny and Fritz notched an 8-3 win at the first position and sophomore Andrew Whiting teamed with junior Lenny Whiting for a 9-7 win at the third position.

• Utah State women's tennis (5-4) continues its 2012 season on Saturday, Mar. 10 when it hosts Montana inside the Sports Academy & Racquet Club at 9 a.m.

Last Week
W, 6-1 --- SEATTLE
• Utah State won its only match of the week with a 6-1 home victory against Seattle. In singles play, junior Jaci West posted a straight sets win at the No. 1 spot (6-1, 6-3), freshman McKenzie Davis won in straight sets at the No. 2 spot (6-2, 6-1), junior Kristina Voytsekovich won in straight sets at the No. 3 spot (6-4, 6-3), junior Romina Nedakovic posted a straight sets win at the No. 4 spot (6-3, 6-4), and senior Brianna Rowland won in straight sets at the No. 5 spot (6-3, 6-4). USU also won the doubles point as West and Davis teamed up for an 8-0 win at the first position, while Voytsekovich and Nedakovic notched an 8-3 win at the second position, and Rowland paired with freshman Kimberly Watts for an 8-6 win at the third position. Senior Julie Tukuafu also competed for USU in the match, losing at No. 6 singles in three sets (6-1, 6-7, 2-10).
