• Utah State men's basketball (21-9, 11-7) is the fifth-seed in the upcoming WAC Tournament in Las Vegas, Nev., and will play fourth-seeded UT Arlington (17-12, 11-7) in the quarterfinals on Thursday, Mar. 14 at 9:30 p.m. (MT). If USU advances to the semifinals on Friday, Mar. 15 it would again play at 9:30 p.m. (MT), and the championship game of the WAC Tournament will be on Saturday, Mar. 16 at 9 p.m. (MT) and will be televised on ESPNU. All other games will be streamed live on WAC.tv.

• Utah State posted a 2-0 home record last week with wins against Texas State (77-61) and UTSA (71-51). Against the Bobcats, junior guard/forward Spencer Butterfield recorded his seventh double-double of the season with 10 points and a career-high 20 rebounds, while junior center Jarred Shaw added his ninth double-double of the year with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Sophomore forward Ben Clifford scored 13 points and tied his career-high in both assists and blocks with four each, while freshman point guard Marcel Davis had 12 points and a career-high five steals. USU shot 41.4 percent (24-58), including 25.0 percent from three-point range (5-20) and 80.0 percent at the free throw line (24-30). Texas State shot 33.9 percent (19-56), including 30.4 percent from three (7-23) and 72.7 percent at the line (16-22). Against the Roadrunners, Clifford scored a career-high 21 points, junior guard TeNale Roland scored a career-high 14 points and junior guard Marvin Jean grabbed a career-high 10 rebounds. Shaw added 11 points and nine boards, while Butterfield had 14 points. USU finished the game shooting 50.0 percent from the field (25-50), 30.4 percent from three-point range (7-23) and 87.5 percent at the free throw line (14-16). UTSA shot 32.8 percent (19-58), including 20.8 percent from three (5-24) and 57.1 percent at the line (8-14).

• Utah State posted a 1-1 record last week as it lost at UNLV (4-0) and defeated UC Riverside (5-1). Against the Highlanders, sophomore McKenzie Davis won in straight sets at No. 1 singles (6-2, 6-1), senior Jaci West won in straight sets at No. 2 singles (6-1, 7-6), senior Kristina Voytsekhovich won in straight sets at No. 3 singles (6-1, 6-2), freshman Kallie Sperry won in straight sets at No. 5 singles (6-3, 6-3), and sophomore Hillary Hays won in straight sets at No. 6 singles (6-2, 6-1). Senior Julie Tukuafu and freshman Amber Stuhlmann also competed during the weekend.

If USU advances to the semifinals on Friday, Mar. 15 it would play at 1 p.m. (MT), and the championship game of the WAC Tournament will be on Saturday, Mar. 16 at 1 p.m. (MT) and will be televised on ESPNU. • Utah State posted a 1-1 road record last week with a 73-56 win at Texas State and an 80-72 loss at UTSA. Against the Bobcats, senior guard Devyn Christensen scored 24 points, junior guard Jennifer Schlott scored 13 points and senior guard Jenna Johnson added 11 points. USU shot 47.5 percent (29-61), including 33.3 percent from three-point range (8-24) and 77.8 percent at the free throw line (7-9). Texas State shot 27.7 percent (18-65), including 25.0 percent from three (5-20) and 88.2 percent at the line (15-17). Against the Roadrunners, Johnson scored 23 points, Schlott scored 20 points and Christensen added 12. For the game, USU shot 38.8 percent from the field (26-67), 23.8 percent from three-point range (5-21) and 78.9 percent at the free throw line (15-19). UTSA shot 43.5 percent (27-62), including 34.8 percent from three (8-23) and 66.7 percent at the line (18-27).

• Utah State posted a 1-1 record last week as it lost at Montana State (4-3) and won against Montana State-Billings (5-0). Against the Bobcats, senior Sven Poslusny posted a straight sets win at No. 1 singles (6-3, 6-4) and sophomore Sean Levesque won in straight sets at No. 5 singles (6-4, 7-6). In doubles play, junior Fredrik Peterson teamed with Levesque for a 9-8 win at the second position, while junior Andrew Whiting and sophomore Curran Wearmouth notched an 8-4 win at the third position as USU claimed the doubles point. Against the Yellowjackets, Poslusny posted a straight sets win at No. 1 singles (6-2, 6-3), Peterson won in straight sets at No. 2 singles (6-2, 6-3), sophomore Matt Sweet won in straight sets at No. 3 singles (7-5, 6-2) and Wearmouth won in straight sets at No. 4 singles (7-5, 6-4). USU also won the doubles point as Poslusny and Sweet posted a 9-7 win at the first position, Peterson and Levesque notched a 9-8 win at the second position, and Wearmouth and Whiting won 9-7 at the third position.

• Utah State softball (0-20) will continue its 2013 season on Wednesday, March 13 when it plays a doubleheader at Weber State beginning at 2 p.m. USU will then travel to Boise, Idaho over the weekend to compete in the Boise State hosted SpringHill Suites Invitational. USU will begin the tournament against the host Broncos on Friday, Mar. 15 at 2 p.m. On Saturday, Mar. 16, USU will face Idaho State at 10 a.m. and Portland State at 12 p.m. And on Sunday, Mar. 17, USU will conclude the tournament against Portland State and Idaho State at 10 a.m. and 12 p.m., respectively.

• Utah State went 0-5 last week at the San Diego Classic as it lost to New Mexico (4-2), San Diego (4-3), San Diego State (4-1), Fresno State (9-6) and Boise State (2-0). Sophomore infielder Nicole Arata hit .500 (7-14) and had three runs batted in, three runs scored, and hit one home run to go along with two bases on balls. Her best game of the weekend was against Fresno State as she went 1-for-2 at the plate with three RBI, two walks and a run scored on a two-run home run, which is the first of her career.

• Utah State's outdoor track and field teams will begin its 2013 season at the Texas Relays from Wednesday through Saturday, Mar. 27-30. USU will also have individuals competing at the Utah Valley Collegiate on Friday, Mar. 29 and at the Stanford Invitational on Friday and Saturday, Mar. 29-30.

NTS --- at Washington Qualifier
• Senior distance runner Alex Litzsinger led a strong performance from the Utah State women and men's indoor track & field teams as she broke the school record in the women's 3,000m (9:41.22) to place fifth overall at the Washington hosted UW Final Qualifier. Freshman Tylee Newman followed Litzsinger close behind as she placed sixth with the third-fastest time in school history (9:44.61) in the women's 3,000m. On the men's side, freshman Briton Page and senior Tyler Killpack finished first and second in the men's 800m for the second-straight week with times of 1:50.36 and 1:50.85, respectively. Furthermore, Page now ranks third all-time in Aggie history as Killpack now ranks fifth in the school's top 10 list.

GYMNASTICS

• Utah State gymnastics (3-10, 0-4) concludes its 2013 regular season on Friday, March 15 in a home dual meet against WAC foe Boise State (11-3, 1-2) at 7 p.m.

Last Week
L, 192.900-195.025 --- BYU
• Utah State scored a 192.900 in dual loss to BYU last week as the Cougars scored a 195.025. Utah State scored a 48.425 on vault, a season-best 48.725 on bars, a 47.600 on beam and 48.125 on floor. BYU notched a 49.050 on bars, 48.850 on vault, 49.050 on floor and 48.075 on beam for their total of 195.025. In all-around action, sophomore Sarah Landes finished with a total score of 39.175, just shy of her season-high, which was enough to give her the all-around title. Junior Paige Jones finished fourth with an overall score of 38.600. Jones also finished tied for second on vault with her 9.850 as well as tying for first-place on floor with the same score. Landes and Jones were part of a four-way tie for third-place on bars, notching a 9.800. Landes also tied for second-place on beam with a 9.750.

• Utah State men's golf will continue its 2013 spring season on Thursday, March 28 when it travels to Arroyo Grande, Calif., to compete in the Cal Poly hosted Cypress Ridge Match Play Championships. The tournament will conclude on Friday, Mar. 29.

Last Competition
6th/9 --- at Cal State Fullerton Invitational
• Junior Tanner Higham carded a final round 1-under 71 to move into a tie for sixth-place with a 3-over 219 (75-73-71) at the Cal State Fullerton hosted Folino Invitational last week. Higham was tied for 13th after 36-holes before tying for the best final round of the day with his 1-over 71. Utah State also performed well as it carded the third-best team score of the final round with an 8-over 296 to move from eighth into sixth-place in the nine-team field with a 36-over 910 (309-305-296). During its final round, USU shot nine shots better than it did the previous day and 13 shots better than it did during its opening round. Long Beach State took the team title with an 8-over 872 (294-289-289), while Loyola Marymount's Tyler Torano (75-67-72) and Sacramento State's Ryan Williams (69-70-75) tied for medalist honors at 2-under 214. Freshman Seokwon Jeon tied for 20th for Utah State with a 12-over 228 (78-78-72), while freshman Reed Platke tied for 22nd with a 13-over 229 (77-79-73). Senior Brendan Dennis tied for 42nd with a 22-over 238 (82-76-80) and fellow senior Kris Sayer tied for 45th with a 25-over 241 (79-78-84).
