• Utah State men's basketball (17-15, 8-6) will participate in its school-record extending 13th-straight postseason as it hosts CSU Bakersfield (16-14) in the first round of the CollegeInsider.com Tournament on Wednesday, Mar. 14 at 7 p.m. USU is 6-0 all-time against the Roadrunners including a 4-0 mark at home.

• Utah State lost to Louisiana Tech, 72-70, in the quarterfinals of the Western Athletic Conference postseason tournament last week. Sophomore guard/forward Danny Berger scored a career-high 17 points to go along with a career-high three steals, while freshman forward Ben Clifford scored a career-high 12 points and freshman center Jordan Stone added a career-best nine points. Senior point guard Brockeith Pane also scored in double-figures for USU as he finished the game with 13 points. Utah State finished the game shooting 45.8 percent from the field (22-48), 36.4 percent from three-point range (4-11) and 81.5 percent at the free throw line (22-27). LTU shot 52.9 percent overall (27-51), including 47.1 percent from three and 62.5 percent at the line (10-16).

• Utah State gymnastics (4-10, 1-2) will conclude its regular season this week with a quad meet at Arizona and against Air Force and Bridgeport on Friday, Mar. 16 at 7 p.m.

• Utah State posted a 1-1 dual record last week as it lost to Brigham Young, 195.525-193.675, and won at Southern Utah, 194.200-193.700, snapping a 24-match losing streak to the Thunderbirds. Against the Cougars, sophomore Paige Jones won two events plus the all-around with a career-high 39.200 and took top honors on vault with a 9.850. Freshman Sarah Landes was second in the all-around with a 39.075 and senior Rebecca Holliday notched a 37.900 in the all-around to place fourth. Utah State's 193.675 total came from a 48.300 on vault, a 48.350 on bars, 48.275 on beam and 48.750 on floor. BYU's winning 195.525 resulted from a 48.575 on vault, 48.975 on bars, 49.050 on beam and 48.925 on floor. Against the Thunderbirds, Jones shared the vault title with Landes with 9.825's, while Jones won the floor with a 9.850 on the way to the all-around win with a 38.975. Holliday captured the bars title with a 9.800, while freshmen Ashley Follett and Samantha Wagner were the top Aggies on beam, tying for third with 9.725's. Landes was second in the all-around with a 38.400 and Holliday was third with a 38.300. The Aggies' 194.200 was their second-highest score of the season and their third score of 194.00 or better. They scored a 48.600 on vault, a 48.650 on bars and a 48.075 on beam and a 48.875 on floor. The floor score tied USU's season-high while the vault was the second-highest and the beam was third on its season-best list. SUU scored a 48.875 on vault, 48.775 on bars, 47.175 on beam and 48.875 on floor for its final score of 193.700.

• Utah State women's basketball (21-9, 11-3) will find out on Monday, March 12 if it will continue its season with an invitation for the Women's Postseason National Invitation Tournament. If the Aggies do receive a WNIT bid, it would be its second-straight WNIT appearance.

• Utah State posted a 1-1 record in the Western Athletic Conference postseason tournament last week as it defeated Nevada (75-66) in the quarterfinals and lost to Louisiana Tech (73-69) in the semifinals. Against the Wolf Pack, junior guard Devyn Christensen scored 18 points, junior forward Jenna Johnson scored 17 points and senior guard Brooke Jackson added 15 points. Senior forward Ashlee Brown also scored in double-figures as she finished the game with 17 points and a career-high 12 assists. USU shot 48.2 percent overall (27-56), including 41.7 percent from three-point range (5-12) and 80.0 percent at the free throw line (16-20). UN shot 42.4 percent (28-66), including 25.0 percent from three (2-8) and 61.5 percent at the line (8-13). Against the Lady Techsters, Brown recorded her 12th double-double of the season with 24 points and a career-high 16 rebounds, while Jackson scored 12 points, and Christensen and sophomore guard Jennifer Schlott each had 10 points. USU shot 39.7 percent in the game (25-63), including 21.4 percent from three-point range (3-14) and 94.1 percent at the free throw line (16-17). LTU shot 49.1 percent overall (26-53), including 41.2 percent from behind the arc (7-17) and 87.5 percent at the line (14-16).

• Utah State's men's golf team will continue its 2012 spring season on Thursday, Mar. 22 when it travels to Arroyo Grande, Calif., to compete in the Cal Poly Intercollegiate.

Last Competition
7th/16 --- at Washington State Getaway
• Utah State finished in seventh-place out of 16 teams at the Washington State hosted Snowman Getaway with a 34-over 898 (301-305-292). During its final round, USU shot a 4-over 292 which was the sixth-best team score in the field. USU's seventh-place team finish is also its best tournament finish this year, in this its seventh event. Freshman Andrew Paulson finished tied for 23rd-place with an 8-over par 224 (74-74-76) to lead USU. Freshman Tanner Jenson finished the tournament tied for 29th with a 9-over 225 (79-72-74), while freshman Brennan Coburn tied for 40th with an 11-over 227 (77-81-69) after carding his best collegiate round during his final 18 holes with a 3-under 69. Sophomore Tanner Higham tied for 44th with a 12-over 228 (71-83-74), and senior Chanse Godderidge tied for 68th with an 18-over 234 (81-78-75).

• Utah State's outdoor track and field teams will start its 2012 season on Friday and Saturday, Mar. 16-17 when it competes in the University of Arizona hosted Willie Williams Classic.

• Utah State senior Kim Quinn set a new school record in the 3,000m after finishing in ninth-place with a time of 9.41.93, while fellow senior Sonia Grabowska won the pole vault [4.09m (13-05.00)] at the University of Washington Final Qualifier last weekend. Senior Daniel Howell also competed well as he placed fifth in the men's 3,000m with a personal-best and Western Athletic Conference season-best time of 8:05.30. With the time, Howell moved up to No. 2 in the Aggie record books. Utah State did not have any student-athletes reach automatic qualifying marks during the 2012 season and did not having anyone invited to the 2012 NCAA Indoor Championships.

• Utah State's softball team (8-13) will continue its 2012 season this week with seven games. USU begins its week with a pair of single games against Harvard and at Loyola Marymount on Monday, March 12 at 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. (MT), respectively, before traveling to Boise, Idaho this weekend to compete in the Boise State Invitational. USU will begin the BSU Tournament on Friday, March 16 against the host Broncos at 4 p.m. Utah State will then play a pair of games against Portland State and Minnesota on Saturday, March 17 at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m., respectively before concluding the tournament on Sunday, March 18 against Portland State and Idaho State at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m., respectively.

• Junior first baseman Christine Thomsen posted a team high .583 batting average in the Long Beach State Invitational last weekend as the Aggies dropped all five of their games in the Invitational to Pittsburgh (8-0), North Carolina (11-2), Michigan State (3-2), Cal State Fullerton (13-4) and UCLA (2-0). Thomsen had seven hits, two for doubles, and nine total bases over the five game stretch as well as a team high on-base percentage (.643) and slugging percentage (.750). Thomsen was the lone Utah State batter to get a hit against No. 16 UCLA in Sunday's match-up, going 1-for-3 on the day.

Against the Lumberjacks, junior Sven Poslusny notched a three-sets win at No. 1 singles (3-6, 6-3, 6-1), and fellow junior Lenny Whiting posted a three-sets win at No. 6 singles (3-6, 6-2, 10-6). Other Aggies to compete during the weekend include senior Nate Ballam, sophomores Fredrik Peterson and Andrew Whiting, and freshmen Marcus Fritz, Matt Sweet and Curran Wearmouth.

• Utah State lost at home to Montana, 5-2, in its only match of the week. Both of the Aggies points came in singles competition as junior Jaci West won in straight sets at No. 1 singles (6-2, 6-4) and freshman McKenzie Davis won in straight sets at No. 2 singles (6-4, 6-4). West and Davis also teamed for an 8-3 win at the first doubles position. Other Aggies to compete against the Grizzlies include seniors Romina Nedakovic and Brianna Rowland, juniors Julie Tukuafu and Kristina Voytsekovich, and freshman Kimberly Watts.
