Last Week
L, 53-69 --- vs. Texas A&M @ NCAA Tournament, Spokane, Wash.
• Utah State concluded its 2009-10 season with a 69-53 loss to No. 23 Texas A&M in the first round of the NCAA Tournament in Spokane, Wash. USU finishes its season with a 27-8 record. Junior forward Tai Wesley led Utah State with 14 points and six rebounds, while senior guard Jared Quayle had 11 points. Junior guard Tyler Newbold had eight points and five rebounds. USU shot just 38.7 percent from the field (24-62), including just 25.0 percent from three-point range (5-20) and was 0-of-4 at the free throw line. Texas A&M shot 49.0 percent for the game (25-51), including 44.4 percent from behind the arc (8-18) and 78.6 percent at the free throw line (11-14). UTAM also out-rebounded USU, 39-31, and had four more assists (12-8) in the game.

• Utah State's outdoor track and field teams will return to action on Friday, April 2 when it travels to Provo, Utah to compete in the BYU Cougar Invitational.

Last Week
NTS --- at Willie Williams Classic, Tucson, Ariz.
• Utah State track and field opened the outdoor season by taking eight titles and collecting 18 top-three finishes at the Arizona hosted Willie Williams Classic last weekend. Aggie men won the 400m hurdles, shot put and high jump, while USU women won or took section titles in the 200m, long jump, triple jump, pole vault and discus. Senior Nick Karren won the 400m hurdles in a time of 52.49, while sophomore Joe Canavan won the shot put with a distance of 18.00m (59-00.75) and junior Clint Silcock won the high jump with a 2.05m (6-08.75) height. Sophomore Julia Stewart set a new personal best and won the triple jump with a distance of 11.69m (38-04.50), while junior Sonia Grabowska won the pole vault clearing 3.80m (12-05.50). Fellow junior Lindsey Spencer won the discus with a distance of 48.76 (160-00). Junior Kandace Shoell won her section of the 200m (26.67) and freshman Shalyse Olsen won her flight of the long jump with a mark of 4.81m (15-09.50).

• Utah State's women's tennis team (6-5) will return to action on Thursday, April 1 when it plays at Santa Clara. USU will also play a pair of matches on Friday, April 2 against Hawai'i and San Jose State in San Jose, Calif.

• Utah State went 0-2 last week as it lost a pair of matches to Dartmouth (7-0) and Cal Poly (6-1) in San Luis Obispo, Calif. Freshman Kristina Voytsekhovich was the only Aggie to win a match during the weekend as she posted a straight sets win (6-2, 7-5) at No. 3 three singles against Cal Poly. Other Aggies to compete during the weekend include junior Hailey Swenson at No. 1 singles, freshman Jaclyn West at No. 2 singles, sophomore Monica Abella at No. 4 singles, junior Taylor Perry at No. 5 singles and senior Britney Watts at No. 6 singles.

• Utah State's men's tennis team (9-5) will play three matches this week as it hosts New Mexico State on Tuesday, Mar. 23, followed by a pair of matches in Reno, Nev., against Eastern Washington on Friday, Mar. 26 and Nevada on Saturday, Mar. 27. USU's home match against NMSU will begin at Noon at the Sports Academy & Racquet Club.

• Utah State lost its only match of the week at Cal Poly, 7-0. Those who competed for USU include junior Jakob Asplund at No. 1 singles, freshman Sven Poslusny at No. 2 singles, junior Bryan Marchant at No. 3 singles, senior Amit Maharaj at No. 4 singles, junior Alex Thatcher at No. 5 singles and junior Nikita Ryashchenko at No. 6 singles.

• Utah State's gymnastics team (1-16, 0-5) will travel to Fullerton, Calif., this weekend to compete in the 2010 Western Athletic Conference Gymnastics Championships.

Last Week
L, 192.050-194.650 --- SACRAMENTO STATE
• Utah State dropped its final match of the regular season to Sacramento State, 194.650-192.050, on Senior night Friday in the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum. The Aggies' lone senior, Heather Heinrich, posted her third-best all-around score of the season, 39.075, by tying a career-high on the bars with a 9.750, tying a season-high on floor with a 9.825, to go along with a 9.725 on beam and a 9.775 on vault. USU's bars score of 48.550 was its second-highest of the season after last week's 48.725 against San Jose State. The Aggies posted a 48.425 on floor which was their third-best result this season. Conversely, USU's 46.900 on beam was its lowest since a 46.325 score at Utah on Feb. 12. In their final home meet of the season, the Aggies had a 48.175 on vault.

• Utah State's men's golf team will return to action on Thursday, Mar. 25 when it travels to Arroyo Grande, Calif., to compete in the Cal Poly Intercollegiate.

Last Competition
5th/11 --- at Southern Utah Invitational
• Utah State's men's golf team opened its 2010 spring season with a fifth-place finish out of 11 teams at the Southern Utah University hosted Pat Hicks Thunderbird Invitational on Feb. 8-9. The Aggies wrapped up the two-day, 36-hole tournament with a 13 over-par 589 (294-295). Freshman Tanner Higham led the Aggies with rounds of 70 and 74 to finish tied for sixth with an even-par 144 in his best collegiate finish of the season. Juniors Benjamin Schilleman and Chanse Godderidge finished tied for 14th for USU with a three-over 147 as Schilleman had rounds of 72 and 75, and Godderidge had rounds of 76 and 71. Freshman Brendan Dennis tied for 24th with a six-over 150 (72-78), junior Tyson McFarland shot a 10-over 154 (79-75) to tie for 45th and senior Thad Truman finished 51st with an 11-over 155 (76-79). Utah State also had two players compete as individuals as senior Brandon Broadhead placed tied for 52nd with a 12-over 156 (77-79), while sophomore Austin French finished 68th with a 23-over 167 (89-78).

• Utah State's softball team (11-11, 0-0) will begin Western Athletic Conference play this week with a three-game series at Louisiana Tech (12-9, 0-0) on Friday and Saturday, Mar. 26-27. The two teams will play a single game Friday night followed by a doubleheader on Saturday.

• Freshman designated hitter Kali Cancelosi led Utah State to a 1-3 record last weekend at the Capital Classic in Sacramento, Calif., as USU defeated Colorado State (3-2) and lost to Iona (5-0) and Sacramento State twice (10-2, 3-0). In the win against CSU, Cancelosi had a pinch-hit single that drove in two runs to tie the game. She also added two runs batted in against Sacramento State in the first of two games against the Hornets. For the week, Cancelosi hit .429 (3-7) with a double and four RBI.
