• Utah State gymnastics (10-12) continues its 2014 season next weekend at NCAA Regionals at a site yet to be announced. USU is competing at regionals as a team for the first time since 2007.

Last Week
5th, 196.075 --- at Mountain Rim Championships, Provo, Utah
• With the best team performance of the 2014 season, Utah State gymnastics notched a 196.075 to finish fifth at the inaugural Mountain Rim Gymnastics Championships at BYU last weekend. The 196.075 is the fifth-best team score in program history and its highest score since 2003. Utah State notched a 49.150 on vault, a 49.125 on bars, a 48.625 on beam and a 49.175 on floor. Aggie senior Paige Jones earned all-conference accolades for all three of her performances as she earned first-team all-conference honors on both the bars and floor as she tied for third on both events with a 9.875 and 9.900, respectively. She also earned second-team all-conference accolades on the vault as she placed fourth with a 9.900. Sophomore Michelle Yasukochi received a second-team nod on beam, tying for fifth-place with a 9.825. Junior Sarah Landes was recognized for her floor and all-around performances, being named to the second-team on both with scores of 9.875 and 39.225, respectively. And freshman Bailey McIntire also received second-team accolades on floor with her 9.875.

• Utah State men's golf will continue its 2014 spring season on Monday and Tuesday, April 7-8 in Scottsdale, Ariz., at the Wyoming hosted Cowboy Classic.

Last Week
4th/15 --- at South Dakota State Invitational, Primm, Nev.
• Utah State finished in fourth-place out of 15 teams with a 34-over 898 (296-290-312) at the South Dakota State hosted Jackrabbit Invitational in its last competition. On the season, Utah State has now competed in eight tournaments and has recorded seven top-10 finishes, including five top-five places. Sophomore Seokwon Jeon tied for 14th-place with a 5-over par 221 (73-67-81), senior Tanner Higham tied for 23rd-place with a 9-over 225 (72-75-78), senior Grahm Schmaltz tied for 29th-place with a 10-over 226 (74-74-78), freshman Braxton Miller tied for 35th-place with a 12-over 228 (77-74-77) and sophomore Reed Platke tied for 63rd-place with a 21-over 237 (77-81-79).

• Utah State posted a 1-1 record last week with a 7-0 loss to Montana and a 4-3 win against Marquette in a pair of matches played in Boise, Idaho. Against the Golden Eagles, freshman Dennis Baumgartner won in straight sets at No. 1 singles (7-6, 7-6), junior Marcus Fritz won in three sets at No. 3 singles (0-6, 6-3, 6-4), and freshman Sebastian Schneider won in straight sets at No. 5 singles (7-6, 6-4). USU also claimed the doubles point as seniors Fredrik Peterson and Andrew Whiting teamed up for an 8-7 win at the second position, while Schneider and junior Matt Sweet recorded an 8-5 win at the third position. Other Aggies to compete during the weekend included freshman Dennis Baumgartner.

• Utah State women's tennis (9-6, 0-2) will continue its 2014 season this week with three home matches as it hosts Montana State on Thursday, Mar. 27 at 11 a.m., Air Force on Friday, Mar. 28 at 11 a.m., and New Mexico on Sunday, Mar. 30 at 10 a.m.

• Utah State posted a 1-0 record last week with its 6-1 road win at Weber State. Against the Wildcats, junior McKenzie Davis won in straight sets at No. 1 singles (6-4, 6-4), freshman Nini Guensler won in three sets at No. 2 singles (6-4, 6-7, 10-4), sophomore Kallie Sperry won in straight sets at No. 3 singles (6-1, 6-2), freshman Lexi Turley won in straight sets at No. 4 singles (6-4, 6-4), and freshman Katie Sweet won in three sets at No. 5 singles (6-3, 5-7, 11-9). USU also claimed the doubles point as Guensler and Turley teamed up for an 8-7 win at the first position, Davis and sophomore Amber Stuhlmann posted an 8-3 win at the second position, and Sperry teamed up with sophomore Ashley Stuhlmann for an 8-5 win at the third position.

• Utah State's track & field teams will continue its 2014 outdoor season this weekend as it travels to Austin, Texas to compete in the Texas Relays on Wednesday thru Saturday, Mar. 26-29. USU will also send athletes to the Utah Valley Collegiate on Friday, Mar. 28.

• Utah State track and field opened its outdoor season with a pair of event wins and three personal bests at the Oregon Preview last weekend. Leading the Aggie men was sophomore Kevin Allen who set a personal-best in winning the discus with a toss of 54.92m (180-02) to rank as the ninth-best mark in school history. The Aggie women were led by a trio of athletes as senior Kylie Ross won the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:01.39, while junior Laycee Elliott finished second in the event with a personal-best time of 1:02.43. Junior Melanie Heslop also recorded a personal best as she placed third in the hammer with a throw of 53.35m (175-00). Other top performers on the men's side included a fourth-place finish by freshman Colby Wilson in the 2,000m steeplechase (5:51.82), while sophomore Briton Page placed fifth in the 800m (1:51.93). Senior Bryce Hall placed sixth in both the discus (49.62m/162-09) and hammer (50.39m/165-04), freshman Alec Willard finished sixth in the 110m hurdles (15.11), junior Kalon Weston was seventh in both the 110m hurdles (15.27) and 400m hurdles (54.96), junior Michael Cardinal was seventh in the discus (47.11m/154-07), junior Dan Mosman finished eighth in both the 110m hurdles (15.32) and in the 400m hurdles (55.60), sophomore Mike Bills finished ninth in the 2,000m steeplechase (6:01.77), senior Xavier Williford was 10th in the high jump (1.97m/6-05.50), and Allen finished 10th in the hammer (46.54m/152-08). Other top performers on the women's side included a fourth-place finish by junior Rachel Orr in the high jump (1.67m/5-05.75), while senior Keeley Eldredge finished fourth in the hammer (52.80m/173-03) and eighth in the discus (37.49m/123-00). Heslop recorded a fifth-place finish in the discus (41.73m/136-11), while freshman Tori Parkinson placed fifth in the 2,000m steeplechase (7:04.27). Junior Brittany Bushman was sixth in the 2,000m steeplechase (7:06.33), while freshman Cierra Simmons placed eighth in the event with a time of 7:11.07. Senior Kaylee Hartshorn placed seventh in the javelin (41.17m/135-01), while freshman Mia Estes was eighth in the same event with a toss of 41.11m (134-10), and senior Alex Litzsinger finished eighth in the 3,000m with a time of 9:43.83.

• Utah State's softball team (13-13, 3-0) will continue its 2014 season this week with a single game against Southern Utah (9-17) on Tuesday, Mar. 25 in Provo, Utah before playing at Mountain West foe Fresno State (16-12, 1-2) in a three-game series this weekend. USU will begin its weekend series with the Bulldogs on Friday, Mar. 25 at 7 p.m. (MT), followed by a single game on Saturday, Mar. 29 at 7 p.m. (MT), and the series finale on Sunday, Mar. 30 at 2 p.m. (MT).

W, 1-0 (9)--- COLORADO STATE
• Sophomore pitcher Noelle Johnson led Utah State to a perfect 5-0 record last week with a doubleheader sweep at Utah Valley (4-1, 8-7) and a three-game home Mountain West sweep against Colorado State (1-0, 5-4, 7-2). Against the Wolverines, Johnson pitched seven innings in game one, allowing only one run and striking out 11. She then pitched 3.1 innings in relief in the second game and posted six strikeouts. Johnson then started two games against the Rams and pitched one in relief. In USU's 1-0 win against CSU, she struck out 14 batters. In the series finale, she not only earned the win but she hit two home runs and drove home five runs in the 7-2 win. For the week, Johnson went 5-0 and allowed only four earned runs in 30.1 innings pitched as she had a 0.92 ERA with 39 strikeouts. At the plate, she batted .375 (3-8) with one double, two home runs, two runs scored and five runs batted in. The Aggies have now won eight-straight games, which is their longest winning streak since 1993. This is also the first time that USU has started conference play 3-0 since 2004.
