• Utah State's outdoor track & field teams will continue its season this weekend as it competes at the Stanford Invitational on Friday and Saturday, April 3-4 and at the Sacramento State Mondo Invitational on Saturday, April 4.

• Utah State's men and women's track and field teams continued to show improvement by capturing 29 top-five finishes, along with four individual event titles, at the Utah Valley Collegiate Invitational last weekend. Aggie individual event winners included sophomore Brett McAdams in the 800m with a personal-best time of 1:50.21, good enough for ninth in school history. Junior Kevin Allen won the hammer throw (53.66m/176-0.00), sophomore Devin Wright claimed the title in the javelin (60.43m/198-03), and senior Melanie Heslop placed first in the hammer throw (54.91m/180-02). On the women's side, senior Jodi Williams led a host of top-five finishers by taking second in the high jump (1.65m/5-05.00). Junior Maci Bingham placed second in the discus (47.83m/156-11.00) and senior Amber Thompson captured second in pole vault (3.80m/12-05.50). Senior Adela Hofmannova finished third in the 800m (2:13.52), while sophomore Kayla Lee placed fourth in the triple jump (11.40m/37-05.00). For the Aggie men, Allen placed second in discus (52.02m/170-08), while freshman Jordan Beutler took second in the 800m (1:51.39) with fellow freshman David Hirschmann taking third in the shot put (15.17m/49-09.25) and fourth in discus (49.37m/161-11). Sophomore Landon Watts placed fourth in the 400m (48.94), senior Briton Page finished fifth in the 400m hurdles (54.81), and sophomore Colby Wilson crossed the line fifth in the 1,500m at 3:58.27. Additionally, sophomore Mitchell Kalinin recorded a height of 4.55m (14-11.25) to tie for fourth in the pole vault. Fellow sophomore Bradford Strobell took fourth in the long jump with a leap of 6.77m (22-02.50), while Kyler Wightman took fifth in the event with a mark of 6.72m (22-00.75). Other top-five finishers for the Aggie women included Heslop, freshman Olivia Moriconi and sophomore Shelby Jordan, securing spots three through five in the shot put with marks of 12.88m, 12.69m and 12.41m, respectively, while sophomores Katelyn Zabriskie and Bethani Talbot both tied for third in the high jump (1.60m/5-3.00).

Utah State also competed at the Texas-hosted Nike Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays last weekend and USU's 1600m sprint medley relay team of freshman Bryson Stout, junior Tanner Hunt, junior Cole Lambourne and freshman Clay Lambourne advanced to the finals and placed eighth with a time of 3:21.19. That same relay team competed in the 4x400m relay preliminary race, placing 15th with a time of 3:11.08, which now ranks ninth all-time in school history. Additionally, senior Chari Hawkins tied for 10th in the high jump with a mark of 1.71m/5-07.25, as well as an 18th-place finish in the 100m hurdle preliminaries with a time of 14.02.

• Utah State gymnastics (10-11, 2-7) continues its 2015 season this weekend as it competes in the NCAA Regionals in Berkeley, Calif., at 7 p.m. (MT).

Last Competition
4th, 195.125 --- at Mountain Rim Championships, Denver, Colo.
• Utah State finished fourth at the Mountain Rim Gymnastics Conference Championship last weekend with a team score of 195.125 made up of a 48.900 on vault, a 48.625 on bars, a 48.825 on beam and a 48.775 on floor. Boise State won the championship with a 196.625, Southern Utah took second with a 196.275, host Denver placed third with a 196.075, while BYU took fifth with a 194.225. Senior Sarah Landes and junior McKinzey Martinez both earned second-team all-MRGC honors in the all-around, as Landes finished fourth with a 38.900 (vault: 9.700, bars: 9.700, beam: 9.750, floor: 9.750) and Martinez finished fifth with a 38.425 (vault: 9.825, bars: 9.700, beam: 9.175, floor: 9.725). Junior Miranda Kerr earned second-team all-MRGC honors on vault, as she finished tied for fourth with a 9.850.

• Utah State's softball team (11-21, 3-3) continues its 2015 season this week with a non-conference home game against BYU (21-8) on Tuesday, March 31 at 4 p.m., before hosting UNLV (15-19, 1-5) in a three-game Mountain West series over the weekend. The two teams will play single games on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, April 2-4 at 3 p.m., 3 p.m., and 12 p.m., respectively.

• Utah State posted a 2-2 record last week as it fell to Idaho State at home (13-3) in a non-conference game and notched a 2-1 Mountain West road record at Nevada (W 5-0, W 11-9, L 3-2). Offensively, the Aggies were led by junior outfielder Sarah Chow who hit .400 on the week with six hits, two runs and three runs batted in. Senior outfielder Hailey Froton also hit .400 on the week, going 4-for-10 at the plate with three runs and five runs batted in. Defensively, sophomore first baseman Paxton Provost and freshman catcher Brina Buttacavoli led the team with 21 putouts between the four games. Four Aggie pitchers saw time over the week with freshman Paige Mills making her first career appearance. Junior Noelle Johnson led the pitching staff with a 3.94 ERA, going 1-2 overall. Combined, the four pitchers allowed 36 hits and 25 runs, while walking 13 batters and striking out another 18.

• Utah State women's tennis (11-7, 1-1) continues its 2015 spring season this weekend with a pair of Mountain West road matches at No. 63 New Mexico on Thursday, April 2 at 4 p.m. and at Air Force on Saturday, April 4 at 11 a.m.

• Utah State split a pair of Mountain West home matches last week with a 5-2 loss against Wyoming and a 5-2 win against Colorado State. Against the Cowgirls, USU lost the doubles point, but senior McKenzie Davis and freshman Maggie O'Meara won at the second position (6-3). In singles, Davis won at the No. 1 spot (6-4, 6-3) and sophomore Nini Guensler won at the No. 2 spot (6-4, 6-3). Against the Rams, USU lost the doubles point. In singles, Davis won at the No. 1 spot (6-3, 6-3), Guensler won at the No. 2 spot (5-7, 7-5, 10-3), sophomore Lexi Turley won at the No. 3 spot (6-0, 6-4), freshman Meghan Lyall won at the No. 5 spot (2-6, 6-2, 6-2) and freshman Sabrina Demerath won at the No. 6 spot (6-1, 6-2). Also competing for the Aggies last week was junior Kallie Sperry.

• Utah State men's tennis (14-7, 2-1) continues its 2015 spring season this weekend with a pair of Mountain West home matches as it hosts Air Force on Friday, April 3 and No. 44 New Mexico on Sunday, April 5 with both matches beginning at 11 a.m.

• Utah State lost its only match last week, falling on the road at No. 72 UNLV, 5-2. Against the Rebels, USU won the doubles point as sophomore Jack Swindells and freshman Jaime Barajas won at the second position (7-6) and senior Marcus Fritz and sophomore Dennis Baumgartner won at the third position (7-6). In singles, sophomore Sebastian Schneider won at the No. 6 spot (6-1, 6-4). Also competing for the Aggies last week was senior Matt Sweet and sophomore Karan Salwan.

• Utah State's men's golf team will continue its 2015 spring season on Monday and Tuesday, April 6-7 at the Wyoming Classic held in Chandler, Ariz.

• Utah State placed seventh out of eight teams last week at the Cal Poly hosted Match Play Championships as it lost to CSU Bakersfield (3.0-2.0) and Weber State (3.5-1.5), before defeating Hawai'i (4.0-1.0). In its seventh-place match against Hawai'i, senior Grahm Schmaltz posted a 4&3 win against Scott Yamashita; junior Seokwon Jeon recorded a 6&5 win against Ryan Kuroiwa; sophomore McCoy Willey suffered a 1 up loss to Justin Chu; junior Reed Platke notched a 1 up win against Brian Lee; and sophomore Eli Rogers had a 2 up win against Adrian Lee. In its consolation match against Weber State on Monday, Schmaltz halved his match with Devon Purser; Jeon lost his match against Luke Crapo, 4&3; Willey posted a 4&2 win against Colton Dallimore; Platke lost to Michael Johnson, 3&2; and Rogers lost his match to Lee Shepherd, 3&2. In the opening round loss to CSU Bakersfield on Monday, Schmaltz won his match against Tristan Stone, 4&3; Jeon lost his match to Jim Park, 1 up; Willey lost his match to Travis Millwee, 1 up; Platke lost his match to Nathan Green, 3&1; and Rogers won his match against Teo Chiesa, 1 up.
