• Utah State's softball team (15-21, 4-5) will continue its 2014 season this week with five games as it hosts Weber State (19-19) in a non-conference doubleheader on Tuesday, April 15 at 2 p.m., and then plays a three-game Mountain West series at San Diego State (29-11, 6-3) over the weekend. USU will begin its series with SDSU on Thursday, April 17 at 7 p.m. (MT) in a game that will be streamed live on the Mountain West Network. The two teams will then play a single game on Friday, April 18 at 7 p.m. (MT), and conclude the series on Saturday, April 19 at 2 p.m. (MT).

• Junior outfielder Hailey Froton hit .500 in Utah State's 9-6 loss at Idaho State in its only game last week. Against the Bengals, Froton was 2-of-4 at the plate with a three-run home run and a run-scoring double as she finished the contest with four runs batted in and one run scored.

• Utah State men's golf will continue its 2014 spring season on Monday and Tuesday, April 14-15 in Santa Barbara, Calif., at the UC Santa Barbara hosted OGIO Intercollegiate.

Last Week
11th/21 --- at Wyoming Cowboy Classic, Scottsdale, Ariz.
• Utah State finished in 11th-place out of 21 teams with a 26-over 866 (290-302-274) at the Wyoming hosted Cowboy Classic last week. Sophomore Seokwon Jeon carded a collegiate-low 7-under 63 during his final round to finish tied for fourth-place with a 4-under 206 (71-72-63). The 7-under 63 by Jeon is the best round by an Aggie golfer since Brendon Ehlers carded an 8-under 63 at the Boise State hosted Bronco Roundup on Oct. 10, 2005. Jeon also tied his collegiate-best 54-hole score with his 4-under 206, matching the 206 he shot at the Utah Invitational last fall to win that tournament at 7-under par (67-71-68). Freshman Braxton Miller also had his best day as a collegiate golfer for USU as he carded a collegiate-low 70 to finish tied for 46th-place with an 8-over 218 (73-75-70), which is his best 54-hole score and best tournament finish at the collegiate level. Senior Tanner Higham finished tied for 54th-place with a 9-over 219 (73-75-71), junior Grahm Schmaltz tied for 72nd-place with a 14-over 224 (73-80-71) and freshman Eli Rogers tied for 92nd-place with an 18-over 228 (77-81-70).

Utah State men's tennis (9-13, 0-5) will conclude its 2014 regular season this week with two Mountain West home matches as it hosts UNLV on Friday, April 18 at 11 a.m. and Fresno State on Sunday, April 20 at 11 a.m.

• Utah State posted an 0-3 Mountain West record last week with a 5-2 home loss to Nevada, a 6-1 road loss at New Mexico and a 5-2 road loss at Air Force. Against the Wolf Pack, freshman Sebastian Schneider posted a three-sets win at No. 4 singles (6-2, 0-6, 6-3) and fellow freshman Tomas Cosmai posted a straight sets win at No. 6 singles (6-1, 7-5), while Schneider teamed with junior Matt Sweet for an 8-7 win at the third doubles position. Against the Lobos, Schneider posted a straight sets win at No. 5 singles (6-4, 7-5). And against the Falcons, junior Marcus Fritz won in three sets at No. 2 singles (4-6, 6-3, 6-4) and Schneider won in straight sets at No. 5 singles (6-2, 6-2), while Fritz teamed with senior Fredrik Peterson for an 8-2 win at the first doubles position.

• Utah State women's tennis (13-9, 1-5) will conclude its 2014 season next week when it travels to Fresno, Calif., to compete in the Mountain West Championships from Wednesday through Saturday, April 23-26.

• Utah State posted a 1-1 Mountain West road record last week with a 5-2 win at Colorado State and a 5-2 loss at Wyoming. Against the Rams, junior McKenzie Davis posted a straight sets win at No. 1 singles (6-1, 6-0), sophomore Kallie Sperry won in straight sets at No. 2 singles (6-4, 6-1), freshman Nini Guensler won in straight sets at No. 3 singles (6-4, 6-2), and freshman Cassidy Branstine won in straight sets at No. 6 singles (6-1, 6-3). USU also claimed the doubles point as Davis and Sperry combined for an 8-2 win at the first position, freshman Katie Sweet teamed with sophomore Amber Stuhlmann for an 8-7 win at the second position, and Guensler teamed with freshman Lexi Turley for an 8-5 win at the third position. With its win against the Rams, USU set the single-season school record with its 13th win of the season, while Davis set the spring record for singles victories at 17. Against the Cowgirls, Guensler won in three sets at No. 3 singles (6-2, 4-6, 6-2), and USU also claimed the doubles point as Davis and Sperry combined for an 8-3 win at the first position, while Guensler and Turley notched an 8-7 win at the third position.

• Utah State's track & field teams will continue its 2014 outdoor season this weekend as it travels to Walnut, Calif., to compete in the Mt. Sac Relays from Wednesday through Friday, April 16-18, and will host the Mark Faldmo Invitational on Friday and Saturday, April 18-19.

NTS --- at Utah Spring Invitational
• Juniors Chari Hawkins, Cree Taylor and Eric Shellhorn all won their respective events and Utah State's men and women's 4x100m relay teams finished first to pace the Aggies Friday at the Utah Spring Classic in Salt Lake City, Utah. Hawkins won the high jump with a leap of 1.72m (5-07.75) and Taylor placed first in the 100m hurdles with a time of 14.11. Shellhorn was the only individual event winner for the Aggie men, taking the 800m title by blasting his personal-best by over three seconds, finishing with a time of 1:50.25. Additionally, the women's 4x100m relay team (Brittany Rawlins, Bailee Whitworth, Chalese West and Kaitlyn Wilcox) finished first with a time of 46.21, while the men's 4x100m team (Nic Bowens, Jacob Bautista Jr., Parker Bluth and Silas Pimentel) won their race with a time of 39.60. Despite recording an identical height (1,72m/5-07.75), junior Rachel Orr finished second in the high jump on a judge's decision. Freshman Katelyn Zabriskie finished right behind the two juniors, tying for third with a jump of 1.57m (5-01.75). Senior Daphne Jones placed second in the long jump, recording a distance of 5.75m (18-10.50). Senior Keeley Eldredge grabbed third-place in the hammer throw with a toss of 57.28m (187-11) and junior Melanie Heslop finished right behind in fourth (55.95m/183-07). Sophomore Amanda Stoudt took fourth in the 3,000m with a time of 10:46.11 to lead the distance runners. In the 200m, senior Bailee Whitworth placed fourth with a time of 24.78 and fellow senior Chalese West finished in 24.87 to claim fifth. On the men's side, senior Bryce Hall garnered third in the shot put with a throw of 16.67m (54-08.25) and junior Michael Cardinal placed fourth with a heave of 16.32m (53-06.50). Rounding out the top-five for USU was freshman Alec Willard, who finished fifth in the 110m hurdles with a time of 14.77.

NTS --- at Weber State Invitational
• Utah State's outdoor track & field teams recorded four event wins at the Weber State hosted Innovation Invitational on Saturday. Senior Sam Nelson won the triple jump with a leap of 12.13m (39-09.75) and the 4x100m relay team (Brittany Rawlins, Bailee Whitworth, Chalese West, Kaitlyn Wilcox) finished first with a time of 46.22 for the Aggie women, while junior Nic Bowens brought home the 100m dash title with a time of 10.52 and sophomore Kevin Allen recorded a distance of 50.19m (164-08) to win his third discus title of the season. Senior Bailee Whitworth placed second in the 100m (12.22) and freshman Mia Estes easily set a personal record in the javelin with a throw of 45.94m (150-09), good for second. Senior Kaylee Hartshorn finished right behind the freshman in third, recording a distance of 45.94m (150-09). Junior Cree Taylor continued her strong weekend, placing third in the 100m hurdles with a time of 14.66. Sophomore Amanda Stoudt grabbed fourth-place in the 3,000m with a time of 10:46.11 and Kayla Lee finished fifth in the triple jump with a jump of 11.21m (36-09.50). For the Aggie men, senior Jacob Bautista Jr. took second behind Bowens in the 100m with a time of 10.85 and junior CJ O'Neal took third after finishing in 11.13. Junior Cole Lambourne and freshman Austin Groll placed second and third, respectively, in the 400m with times of 47.83 and 48.30. Senior Xavier Williford Jr. garnered second-place in the high jump with a leap of 2.05m (6-08.75), while senior Bryce Hall wrapped up the runner-ups for the Aggies, recording a toss of 54.68m (179-05) in the hammer throw. Junior Michael Cardinal grabbed third in the discus with a throw of 46.09m (151-02). Freshman Alec Willard placed third in the 110m hurdles (15.18) and junior Kalon Weston finished close behind in fifth (15.48). Freshman Colby Wilson finished third in the 3,000m steeplechase, finishing in 9:14.41 and senior Kenny Hamlett took third in the triple jump after recording a distance of 13.97m (45-10.00). In addition to his title in the discus, Allen also placed fourth in the hammer throw with a distance of 49.94m (163-10) and junior Briton Page garnered fifth in the 1,500m with a time of 4:00.98.
