Utah State's outdoor track & field teams continue its season this weekend at the California hosted Brutus Hamilton Open/Challenge on Friday and Saturday, April 24-25.

Utah State's men and women's track and field teams collected 31 top-three finishes, as well as 15 individual event winners, last weekend at its own Mark Faldmo Invitational. Individual winners for the Aggie men included sophomore Landon Watts in the 400m (48.75), senior Dan Mosman in the 400m hurdles (53.13), senior Eric Shellhorn in the 800m (1:50.19), freshman Jordan Beutler in the 1,500m (3:55.05), junior Kade Jensen in the 3,000m (9:08.37), freshman Kyler Wightman in the long jump (7.01m/23-00.00), sophomore Devin Wright in the javelin (61.46m/201-08) and junior Kevin Allen in the hammer throw (56.63m/185-09). Individual winners for the USU women included junior Maci Bingham in the shot put (14.15m/46-05.25), discus (51.29m/168-03) and hammer (57.86m/189-10), senior Laycee Elliott in the 400m hurdles (1:01.62), sophomore Bethani Talbot in the high jump (1.65m/5-05.00), sophomore Kayla Lee in the triple jump (11.90m/39-00.50) and sophomore Mia Estes in the javelin (44.75m/146-10). Other men's top-three finishers included freshman Bryson Stout placing second in the 200m (21.69), senior Briton Page finishing third in the 400m hurdles (54.45), sophomore Mitchell Pettit (9:16.21) placing second and junior Jacob Barton (9:30.06) placed third in the 3,000m, Wightman placing third in the triple jump (13.27m/43-06.50), sophomore Jason Allred finishing second in the pole vault (4.75m/15-07.00), Allen placing second in both the shot put (15.04m/49-04.25) and discus (50.76m/166-06), freshman David Hirschmann placing third in the shot put (14.93m/48-11.75), and senior Mike Bills finishing second (3:58.70) and sophomore Dustin Randall (4:01.94) placing third in the 1,500m. The Aggies also had a men's 4x400m relay team of sophomore Dallas Hoofard, Watts, freshman Tyus Kuykendall and Mosman place second with a time of 3:20.11. Top-three finishers for the Aggie women included senior Amber Thompson placing second in the pole vault (3.50m/11-05.75), freshman Kelsey Yamauchi finishing second (4:38.85) and junior Karlee Deeter placing third (4:45.48) in the 1,500m, sophomore Shelby Jordan placing second in the shot put (12.95m/42-06.00), sophomore Anna Maki placing third in the triple jump (11.19m/36-08.05), senior Melanie Heslop (57.63m/189-01) placing second and Jordan placing third (49.46m/162-03) in the hammer, and freshman Stephanie Crapse placing second in the javelin (40.07m/131-5). USU's women also had a 4x400m relay team consisting of freshman Rachel Anderson, Elliott, sophomore Kaitlyn Wilcox and junior Megan Perkins that finished third (4:03.57).
USU also had individuals compete at the Mt. SAC Relays last weekend as senior Chari Hawkins placed seventh in the heptathlon with a school-record 5,732 points, while the men's 4x400m relay team of junior Parker Bluth, junior Tanner Hunt, junior Cole Lambourne and freshman Clay Lambourne finished second with a school record time of 3:05.28, which ranks seventh nationally. Sophomore Colby Wilson finished seventh in the 3,000m steeplechase with a time of 8:45.71, which ranks second in Aggie history and eighth nationally. Bluth placed second in the 200m with a time of 20.78, which ranks second in school history. Cole Lambourne placed fourth in the 400m with a time of 46.16, which ranks second all-time in school history, and Clay Lambourne placed third in the 800m with a time of 1:49.51.

2015 Mountain West Championships, Albuquerque, N.M.

Utah State women's tennis (13-10, 2-3) will conclude its 2015 season this week when it travels to Albuquerque, N.M., to compete in the Mountain West Championships from Wednesday through Sunday, April 22-26. USU is the sixth-seed in the tournament and will begin play against 11th-seeded UNLV (7-16, 1-4) on Wednesday, April 23 at 12 p.m. If USU wins, it will advance to the quarterfinals and face third-seeded San José State (13-6, 3-1) on Friday, April 24 at 3 p.m. The semifinals will be played on Saturday, April 25 beginning at 3 p.m., and the championship match will be on Sunday, April 26 at 2 p.m.
W, 4-3 --- BOISE STATE
Utah State posted a 4-3 win against Boise State last week in its regular-season finale as it lost the doubles point, but won four singles matches. Senior McKenzie Davis won at the No. 1 spot (6-3, 6-1), sophomore Nini Guensler won at the No. 2 spot (6-3, 3-6, 6-3), junior Kallie Sperry won at the No. 3 spot (7-6 (3), 7-6 (5)), and sophomore Lexi Turley won at the No. 6 spot (6-3, 1-6, 6-4).

Utah State posted a 1-1 road record last week with a 4-0 loss at Boise State and a 4-0 win against Idaho. Against the Vandals, USU won the doubles point as senior Matt Sweet and sophomore Karan Salwan won at the first position (6-4) and senior Marcus Fritz and sophomore Dennis Baumgartner won at the third position (6-1). In singles, Salwan won at the No. 1 spot (6-2, 6-3), sophomore Sebastian Schneider won at the No. 5 spot (6-0, 6-1) and freshman Andrew Nakajima won at the No. 6 spot (6-0, 6-2).

Utah State's softball team (16-30, 8-10) continues its 2015 season this week with three non-conference games. USU will begin the week with a doubleheader at Weber State (28-15) on Tuesday, April 21 at 2 p.m, followed by a single game at BYU (30-9) on Wednesday, April 22 at 6 p.m.

Utah State posted an 0-4 record last week as it fell to Utah Valley at home in a non-conference game (L 6-8) and notched a 0-3 Mountain West road record at San José State (L 5-2, L 0-10, L 5-4). Offensively, the Aggies were led by senior outfielder Sarah Vasquez who hit .500 on the week with four hits, including one home run, to go along with two runs scored and three runs batted in. Defensively, sophomore first baseman Paxton Provost led the team with 15 putouts. All four Aggie pitchers saw time in the circle during the week. Freshman Jordyn McCracken was the relief pitcher in three of the four games, allowing just two hits with no runs in her 4.2 innings pitched. Overall, junior Noelle Johnson and sophomore Alleyah Armendariz split the losses as they allowed 24 hits and 16 runs, while walking 13 batters and striking out 11. As a team, USU batted .366 with 26 hits and 12 runs, including three doubles, one triple and one home run.

Utah State's men's golf team will continue its 2015 spring season on Friday and Saturday, April 24-25 at the BYU hosted PING Cougar Classic.
13th/18 --- at Wyoming Classic, Chandler, Ariz.
Utah State placed 13th out of 18 teams last week with a 4-over 868 (293-286-289) at the Wyoming hosted Cowboy Classic in Chandler, Ariz. Sophomore McCoy Willey tied for 38th-place with an even-par 216 (73-67-76) to lead USU, as he shot a collegiate-low 5-under 67 during his second round. Senior Grahm Schmaltz finished the tournament tied for 44th-place at 1-over 217 (73-73-71), which is his best-ever 54-hole score as an Aggie. Senior Zach Waxler finished tied for 61st-place at 3-over 219 (71-74-74), which is his collegiate-best 54-hole score, junior Seokwon Jeon tied for 69th-place at 5-over 221 (76-72-73), and sophomore Eli Rogers tied for 84th-place at 11-over 227 (76-80-71).
