• Utah State's softball team (15-30, 3-12) will begin its week with a non-conference game at Idaho State (9-33) on Tuesday, April 24 at 4 p.m., before hosting ISU on Wednesday, April 25 at 4 p.m. USU will then return to Western Athletic Conference play this weekend with a three-game series at New Mexico State (20-27, 1-14). The two teams will play a single game on Friday, April 27 at 6 p.m., followed by a doubleheader on Saturday, April 28 beginning at 4 p.m.

• Junior infielder Christine Thomsen had a standout game in the series finale against San Jose State as she was 4-for-4 at the plate with two doubles, two runs scored and one run batted in to lead Utah State to the 6-4 win. USU began its series against SJSU with a pair of losses by scores of 11-2 and 9-1 (6). For the week, Thomsen posted a .600 (6-10) batting average to go along with a .800 slugging percentage.

Fri.-Sat., April 27-28 --- at BYU PING Cougar Classic, All Day
• Utah State's men's golf team will continue its 2012 spring season on Friday, April 27 when it travels to Provo, Utah to compete in the BYU hosted PING Cougar Classic.

Last Competition
23rd/23 --- at Wyoming Classic, Scottsdale, Ariz.
• Utah State finished in 23rd-place at the 23-team Wyoming Cowboy Classic played in Scottsdale, Ariz., last week with a 45-over 885 (287-280-309). Sophomore Tanner Higham finished tied for 57th with a 5-over par 215 (66-68-81), which is his collegiate-best 54-hole score. Senior Chanse Godderidge finished tied for 101st with a 13-over 223 (74-73-76), freshman Brennan Coburn tied for 111th at 15-over 225 (75-73-77), freshman Tanner Jenson finished in 116th-place with a 17-over 227 (73-77-77), and junior Kris Sayer tied for 117th at 18-over 228 (74-75-79).

• Utah State women's tennis (10-9, 2-2) will conclude its season this week at the 2012 WAC Championships, hosted by New Mexico State, beginning on Thursday, April 26.

Last Week
W, 4-3 --- at Nevada
• Utah State won its only match of the week with a 4-3 win at Western Athletic Conference foe Nevada. In singles play, freshman McKenzie Davis won in straight sets at the first position (7-5, 6-3), senior Romina Nedakovic won in straight sets at the fourth position (7-5, 6-0), junior Julie Tukuafu won in straight sets at the fifth position (6-1, 6-1), and senior Brianna Rowland (Harris) won in straight sets at the sixth position (6-2, 6-1). Other Aggies to compete in the match include juniors Jaci West and Kristina Voytsekhovich.

• Utah State men's tennis (5-13, 0-5) will conclude its season this week at the 2012 WAC Championships, hosted by New Mexico State, beginning on Friday, April 27.

• Utah State posted a 1-2 record last week as it defeated Weber State (4-3) on the road, lost to Idaho State (4-3) at home, and lost at Nevada (5-2). Against the Wildcats, freshman Marcus Fritz posted a straight sets win at No. 2 singles (6-3, 6-1), senior Nate Ballam won in straight sets at No. 4 singles (6-1, 7-5), freshman Curran Wearmouth won in straight sets at No. 5 singles (7-5, 6-2), and sophomore Brandon Nielsen won in straight sets at No. 6 singles (7-5, 6-1). Against the Bengals, junior Sven Poslusny won in straight sets at No. 1 singles (6-3, 6-3), Fritz won in three sets at No. 2 singles (6-3, 3-6, 6-1), and Ballam won in three sets at No. 4 singles (6-2, 4-6, 7-6). Against the Wolf Pack, Poslusny won in three sets at No. 1 singles (6-2, 0-6, 6-2), and Nielsen won in straight sets at No. 6 singles (6-3, 6-2). USU also won one of three doubles matches at Ballam and Nielsen teamed up for an 8-7 win at the third position. Other Aggies to compete during the week include junior Lenny Whiting and sophomore Andrew Whiting.

• Utah State's outdoor track and field teams will continue its 2012 season on Friday and Saturday, April 27-28 when it travels to Berkeley, Calif., to compete in the California hosted Brutus Hamilton Invitational.

NTS --- MARK FALDMO INVITATIONAL
• Utah State's men and women's track and field teams won 16 events as part of 40 top-three finishes in hosting the Mark Faldmo Invitational at Ralph Maughan Track Stadium on Friday and Saturday. Highlighting the winning Aggies were the throwers duo of senior Lindsey Spencer and sophomore Bryce Hall. Spencer won the hammer throw Friday with a mark of 61.04m (200-03), while winning the discus Saturday with a 52.22m (171-04) distance. Hall also won the hammer Friday with a 56.93m (186.09) distance while collecting top honors in the discus with a toss of 50.46m (165-07). Other USU athletes taking top honors in their events were seniors Katelyn Heiner (400m/54.70), Kim Quinn (1,500m/4:40.56), Sonia Grabowska (pole vault/4.12m [13-06.25]), Spela Hus (shot put/14.30m [46-11.00]), Aaron Clements (1,500m/3:52.64) and Brian McKenna (5,000m/15:35.15). Juniors Kenny Hamlett and Tyler Killpack won the triple jump (13.97m (45-10.00) and 800m (1:52.74) events, respectively, while sophomores Cherice Chugg (5,000m/19:40.86), Sam Nielson (javelin/38.26m [125-06]) and Kylie Hirschi (400m hurdles/1:00.60) all won their respective events. Freshman Rachel Orr cleared 1.70m (5-07.00) to win the high jump, while fellow freshman Landon Watts crossed the finish line at 48.40 to win the 400m.
