• Utah State's track & field teams will continue its 2014 outdoor season next weekend as it travels to Laramie, Wyo., to compete in the 2014 Mountain West Championships from Wednesday through Saturday, May 14-17.

• Junior Nic Bowens raced to a school record en route to winning the 200m dash, recording a time of 20.77, to lead the Utah State men's track & field team at the Idaho-Utah Border Clash in Boise, Idaho last weekend. The Aggie women received event wins in the 3,000m steeplechase from freshman Tori Parkinson (11:06.46) and high jump from junior Rachel Orr (1.70m/5-07.00). Also, senior Keeley Eldredge won the hammer throw with a distance of 56.26m (184-07). In addition to his record time in the 200m, Bowens also won the 100m with a personal-best time of 10.27, good for second-best in Utah State history. Junior Eric Shellhorn set the fifth-fastest time in school history to win the 800m with a time of 1:49.62. Additionally, freshman Colby Wilson won the 1,500m with a time of 3:51.55. Sophomore Kevin Allen won the shot put and discus, recording distances of 15.77m (51-09.00) and 50.79m (166-08), respectively. USU's men's 4x100m relay team (Jacob Bautista Jr., Nic Bowens, Cole Lambourne and Parker Bluth) won their race with a time of 40.32. Not to be outdone, the Aggie men's 4x400m relay team (Parker Bluth, Tanner Hunt, Austin Groll and Cole Lambourne) recorded a time of 3:11.99 to finish first. Also for the USU men, junior Cole Lambourne grabbed second in the 400m with a time of 47.36, good for 10th all-time in school history. Freshman Austin Groll finished close behind in fifth, finishing in 48.43. Freshman Erich Olschewski took second in the 5,000m with a time of 15:24.83, while freshman Joe Gough and junior Kade Jensen placed fourth and fifth, recording times of 15:37.74 and 15:49.04, respectively. Sophomore Parker Bluth finished the 100m in 10.43 to take second and senior Jacob Bautista Jr. garnered fifth with a time of 10.75. Junior Kalon Weston placed third in the 110m hurdles with a time of 14.96 and fellow junior Dan Mosman finished in 15.05 to grab fifth. Those roles were reversed in the 400m hurdles with Mosman (52.84) placing third and Weston (53.36) finishing fifth. Freshman Brett McAdams (1:52.74) took second in the 800m and freshman Austin Orr (1:52.75) finished right behind in third. Freshman Jay Coleman Merrill tied for second in the high jump with a leap of 1.98m (6-06.00) and fellow freshman Ben Bracken took fifth in the shot put with a toss of 15.58m (44-06.75). On the women's side, freshman Mia Estes grabbed second in the javelin with a throw of 42.86m (140-07) and senior Sam Nielson took third, recording a distance of 40.10m (131-07). Senior Chalese West placed second in the 200m, crossing the finish line in 24.14, while Bailee Whitworth finished third with a time of 24.43. Nielson (12.26m/40-02.75) also took second in the triple jump and freshman Cierra Simmons finished runner-up in the 3,000m steeplechase with a time of 11:11.02. Junior Melanie Heslop garnered third-place in the hammer throw, recording a toss of 54.64m (179-03), while senior Daphne Jones took fourth in the long jump with a distance of 5.65m (18-06.50). Bailee Whitworth grabbed third in the 100m, finishing with a time of 12.11 and Chalese West took fifth after finishing in 12.48. The Aggies' 4x100m relay team (Brittany Rawlins, Bailee Whitworth, Chalese West and Chari Hawkins) took third with a time of 46.21. Freshman Elise Maddox (1:05.04) finished fifth in the 400 hurdles and sophomore Karlee Deeter garnered fifth in the 1,500m with a time of 4:50.38. Rounding out the top-five for the Aggies was Heslop, who took fifth in the shot put with a heave of 13.67m (44-10.25).

• Utah State softball (18-32, 6-15) will conclude its 2014 season this week with four games as it plays a non-conference contest at Utah (26-24) on Tuesday, May 6 at 5 p.m., and then plays a three-game Mountain West series at UNLV (23-28, 12-9) during the weekend. The two teams open the series on Thursday, May 8 at 7 p.m. (MT), followed by single games on Friday and Saturday, May 9-10 at 7 p.m. and 2 p.m. (MT), respectively.

• Junior outfielder Hailey Froton hit safely in both games she played in last weekend as Utah State was swept in a three-game Mountain West home series against Nevada by scores of 7-1, 5-3 and 3-0. In USU's game one loss, Froton provided the offense going 2-for-4 at the plate with three RBI and a home run. In the series finale, she went 2-for-3 at the plate with two of USU's four hits in the game. For the week, Froton hit .571 (4-7) with three RBI, one run scored and one home run.
