• Utah State's outdoor track and field teams will return to action this week as it travels to Arlington, Texas to compete in the 2013 WAC Championships from Wednesday through Saturday, May 8-11. The Aggie women are the defending WAC Outdoor Champions, while the USU men finished second at last year's event.

• Utah State men's track and field freshman runner Briton Page won the Lon Spurrier men's 800m race with a time of 1:49.56 at the University of California hosted Brutus Hamilton Invitational last weekend. For Page, it is his fourth-straight sub 1:50.00 effort this season as he ranks 20th in the nation for the event. USU's women had 14 top-six finishes on Saturday, including sophomore Chari Hawkins who placed second in the 100m hurdles with a time of 14.09, second in the high jump with a height of 1.69m (5-06.50) and fourth in the long jump with a leap of 5.64m (18-06.00). Joining Hawkins in a tie for second-place in the high jump were fellow sophomores Rachel Orr, Jodi Williams and Mariah Thompson. Freshman Tylee Newman and sophomore Laycee Elliott also placed second in their respective events as Newman ran a 4:29.37 in the M. Davis 1,500m and Elliott clocked a time of 1:01.49 in the 400m hurdles. Junior Kylie Hirschi tabbed a third-place finish in the women's 400m hurdles (1:01.83), while fellow juniors Keeley Eldredge and Kaylee Hartshorn placed third in the shot put and javelin with marks of 12.29m (40-04.00) and 41.78m (137-01), respectively. Placing fourth for the Aggie women included sophomore Melanie Heslop in the shot put with a throw of 12.16m (39-10.75), as well as the 4x100m relay team ( 47.98) that consisted of senior Bri Campbell, freshman Mikkell Minnoch and Kaitlyn Wilcox, along with Hawkins. Sophomore Cree Phillips Taylor rounded out the top-six placers for the Utah State women with a sixth-place award in the 100m hurdles (14.92). Placing second for the USU men as part of 16 top-six finishes was sophomore Nic Bowens in the 200m (21.61), senior Will Henry in the 100m (10.56), along with the 4x100m (40.22) and 4x400m relay teams (3:14.98). The 4x100m relay team consisted of Bowens and Henry, as well as freshmen Jacob Bautista Jr. and Cole Lambourne as they combined to rank second in school history for the event with the time. The 4x400m relay team was made up of Lambourne and Page, as well as freshman Justin Jenkins and senior Tyler Killpack. Bowens also placed third in the 100m with a time of 10.62, as did Killpack in the Lon Spurrier 800m race (1:50.38), while Lambourne placed fourth in the 400m (47.95). Freshman Sam Nelson placed third in the pole vault with a personal-best vault of 4.76m (15-07.25), while sophomore Michael Cardinal and junior Bryce Hall finished in third place for the shot put and discus with throws of 17.04m (55-11.00) and 51.33m (168-05), respectively. Cardinal also placed sixth in the discus with a mark of 47.14m (154-08). Rounding out the top-six placers for the Aggie men was freshman Kevin Allen who placed fourth in the discus with a toss of 48.52m (159-02), while sophomore Dan Mosman placed fourth in the 100m hurdles (15.06) and fifth in the 400m hurdles (55.76), along with fellow sophomore Eric Shellhorn placing fourth in the Don Bowden 1,500m race (4:07.39). On Friday, USU won three events as part of 25 top-six finishes during day one of the Brutus Hamilton Invitational. Winning events for USU was sophomores Cree Phillips Taylor in the women's 400m hurdles with a personal-best time of 1:04.85 and Chari Hawkins in the women's high jump with a height of 1.69m (5-06.50). Junior Bryce Hall won the men's discus with a toss of 52.37m (171-10), while also placing fourth in the shot put with a mark of 16.48m (54-01.00). Sophomores Rachel Orr and Jodi Williams matched the same height in the women's high jump as Hawkins with a 1.69m (5-06.50) leap and were awarded second and third places, respectively on judge's decisions. Fellow sophomore Mariah Thompson and freshman Chelsey Taylor also jumped into the top-six of the high jump event as Thompson cleared 1.64m (5-04.50) for fifth-place and Taylor leapt 1.59m (5-02.50) for sixth-place. In the women's 400m hurdles, junior Dana Wareham and freshman Megan Klingensmith tabbed fifth and sixth-place finishes with times of 59.75 and 1:01.83, respectively. Senior Ruth Hilton crossed the finish line in fourth-place in the 3,000m steeplechase with a time of 11:25.24, while junior Aubriann Bosen placed fourth in the shot put with a toss of 11.35m (37-03.00). Sophomore Melanie Heslop and junior Keeley Eldredge garnered third and fourth-place honors in the discus with marks of 41.14m (135-00) and 41.12m (134-11), respectively. Eldredge also placed fifth in the hammer with a throw of 51.99m (170-07), while Heslop placed sixth in the same event with a mark of 51.92m (170-04). On the men's side, sophomore Michael Cardinal threw the shot put 16.73m (54-10.75) to place second and finished fourth in the discus with a mark of 45.82m (150-04), while freshman Kevin Allen placed third in the discus with a throw of 49.65m (162-11). Sophomore Dan Mosman finished third in the 100m hurdles (15.24) and sixth in the long jump with a leap of 6.06m (19-10.75). Also placing third for the Utah State men was freshmen Spencer Russell in the 800m (1:55.73) and sophomore Jacob Barton in the 3,000m steeplechase (9:18.67). Senior David Cluff tabbed a fifth-place finish in the 3,000m steeplechase (9:38.94), while freshman Jacob Bautista Jr. placed sixth in the 200m (22.49).

• Utah State softball (11-43, 5-16) concluded its 2013 season by posting a 1-2 record against Texas State as it lost the first two games of the series by scores of 14-0 and 9-8, before winning the finale, 5-2. Senior pitcher Shelbi Tyteca went 4-for-7 (.571) at the plate and worked 10.2 innings in the circle, striking out six batters during the series. In game two against the Bobcats, Tyteca recorded her first hit of the season as she went 2-of-3 at the plate with two runs batted in and one run scored in helping the Aggies to an eight-run rally to tie the game before eventually losing by one. In the last game of the series, Tyteca pitched 6.0 innings and allowed just two runs while striking out three batters to record her fourth win of the season.

• Utah State men's golf concluded its 2013 season with a sixth-place team finish at the 2013 WAC Championships in Henderson, Nev., with a 51-over 915 (292-312-311). Junior Tanner Higham tied for 11th individually with a 9-over 225 (73-74-78) to lead the Aggies. Freshmen Seokwon Jeon finished in 19th-place with a 12-over 228 (71-81-76), while fellow freshman Reed Platke tied for 23rd-place at 14-over 230 (73-79-78). Senior Kris Sayer finished tied for 38th-place at 20-over 236 (79-78-79) and fellow senior Brendan Dennis finished tied for 46th-place with a 26-over 242 (75-86-81).
