Utah State's outdoor track and field teams will continue its 2012 season this week as it travels to Moscow, Idaho to compete in the Western Athletic Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships at the Dan O'Brien Track & Field Complex from Tuesday, May 8 through Friday, May 11. The USU men have won the last three-straight outdoor WAC titles, while the Aggie women placed second at last year's championships.

Utah State's men and women's track and field teams captured three events as part of 23 top-five finishes at the University of California hosted Brutus Hamilton Open and Invitational as well as the BYU Robison Invitational last weekend. Winning their event for USU at BYU's meet was senior Sonia Grabowska in the pole vault with a vault of 4.12m (13-06.25) and freshman Dallas Singley in the pole vault with a mark of 4.60m (15-01.00). Junior Silas Pimentel won the 200m at California's Brutus Hamilton Invitational with a time of 21.46. Pimentel also placed fourth in the 100m (10.62). Taking second place for the Aggies in Berkeley, Calif., were senior Lindsey Spencer in the discus (51.82m [170-00]), freshman Nic Bowens in the 100m (10.58m), along with the women's 4x400m relay team (3:46.24) and the men's 4x100m relay team (40.68). Bowens also placed third in the 200m (21.68). Other top-five finishers for the USU women was freshman McKenzie Johnson who placed third in the long jump with a leap of 5.94m (19-06.00). Finishing fourth in their respective events were senior Katelyn Heiner in the 400m dash with a time of 54.96, sophomore Kylie Hirschi in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:011.22, along with freshmen Mariah Thompson and Jodi Williams who tied for fourth-place in the high jump clearing 1.68m (5-06.00). The women's 4x100m relay team also finished fourth (47.96). Senior Camille Fehlberg tabbed fifth-place in the 400m hurdles (1:02.68), while junior Bailee Whitworth also finished fifth in the 200m (24.26). Senior Rachelle St. Jeor also found a fifth-place finish in the pole vault at BYU with a personal-best height of 3.92m (12-10.25). Other top-five finishers for the Utah State men was junior Will Henry who placed third in the 100m with a time of 10.60, while sophomore AJ Boully finished third and fourth in the 100m hurdles and 400m hurdles with times of 14.76 and 53.73, respectively. Sophomore Bryce Hall collected third-place honors in the discus with a toss of 50.11m (164-05), as senior Joe Canavan tabbed fifth-place in the shot put with a throw of 15.73m (51-07.25). The men's 4x400m relay team also finished in third-place with a time of 3:21.48.
On Friday at the California hosted Brutus Hamilton Open and Invitational, Utah State track and field junior distance runner Stephanie Burt won the 3,000m steeplechase with a personal-best time of 10:57.56. Overall, USU had 10 student-athletes place in the top-five of their respective events at California as well as BYU's Robison Invitational. Seniors Lindsey Spencer, Kim Quinn and Daniel Howell finished in second-place in their respective events at the Brutus Hamilton Open and Invitational. Spencer threw the hammer 60.15m (197-04), while Quinn and Howell clocked in times of 17:08.34 and 8:57.25 in the 5,000m and 3,000m steeplechase, respectively. Sophomore Kenny Hamlett also placed second in the high jump clearing 1.75m (5-08.75) as did fellow sophomore Kyle McKenna in the 5,000m with a personal-best time of 14:24.01. With the time, McKenna also moved up to No. 8 all-time in Utah State history in the event. Taking third-place for the Aggies was senior Aaron Clements in the 3,000m steeplechase (9:04.21), while freshman Dallas Singley tied for third-place in the pole vault at BYU with a vault of 4.30m (14-01.25). Junior Hollie Bosworth took fourth-place in the 400m in California with time of 57.87, while senior Jen Schiess Noorlander also garnered fourth-place honors in BYU's high jump with a leap of 1.55m (5-01.00).

Senior infielder Lindsey Marquez (Artesia, Calif.) hit .286 (2-7) this past weekend with two runs batted in, one run scored and one home run against No. 12 Hawai'i as Utah State was swept in the three-game series by scores of 9-2, 18-0 (5), and 10-3. In the first game of the series, Marquez hit a pinch-hit two run home run. She also had one hit in four at-bats in the series finale. Utah State ends its season with a 17-36 record and finished in eighth-place in the Western Athletic Conference with a 4-17 league mark.

8th/8 --- at WAC Championships, Las Vegas, Nev.
Utah State finished its 2012 season last week with an eighth-place in the eight-team Club Glove Western Athletic Conference men's golf championship with a 55-over 919 (294-313-312) at the Rio Secco Golf Club in Las Vegas, Nev. Sophomore Tanner Higham shot a final round 4-over par 76 to finish tied for eighth with a 5-over 221 (68-77-76) to lead Utah State. Higham's eighth-place finish at the WAC Championships is USU's best since Devin Daniels was the individual runner-up at the 2007 WAC Championships after shooting a 7-under 209 (69-66-74). Freshman Tanner Jenson finished the tournament tied for 24th with a 13-over 229 (72-74-83). Freshman Brennan Coburn finished tied for 33rd with a 20-over 236 (80-79-77), while fellow freshman Andrew Paulson finished 35th with a 22-over 238 (75-84-79). Senior Chanse Godderidge also competed for the Aggies and finished tied for 38th with a 26-over 242 (79-83-80).
