Utah State's track & field teams will continue its 2014 outdoor season next weekend as qualifying athletes will travel to Fayetteville, Ark., to compete in the first round of the 2014 NCAA Championships from Thursday through Saturday, May 29-31.

Junior Nic Bowens wrapped up his historic weekend with three gold medals, sophomore Cole Lambourne topped the podium twice and senior Kaylee Hartshorn added an additional event title for the Aggies last weekend at the 2014 Mountain West Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Additionally, both of Utah State's men's relay teams finished first to pace Utah State. Following the meet, Bowens was named the recipient of the Outstanding Performer Award. The junior also won the Outstanding Performer Award at this year's Mountain West Indoor Championship meet. Utah State's men's team garnered third-place in the team standings with 127 points, while the Aggie women finished sixth with 78 points. In total, USU collected 22 first-team all-Mountain West selections for finishes of first through third-place and 20 second-team all-conference honors for athletes who placed fourth through sixth. Bowens started the day off by joining seniors Jacob Bautista Jr. and Silas Pimentel, as well as sophomore Parker Bluth, in winning the 4x100m with a school-record time of 39.44. Bowens then added an event title in the 100m with a time of 10.18 and again in the 200m with a Utah State-record time of 20.72. Bluth finished right behind Bowens in second-place in both the 100m and 200m, recording times of 10.42 and 21.06, respectively. Pimentel placed fourth in the 100m and fifth in the 200m, finishing with times of 10.52 and 21.42, respectively. Lambourne added another title for the Aggies, taking first in the 400m with a personal best time of 46.71. That time is the sixth-best time in the history of Utah State. Lambourne also joined Bluth, freshman Austin Groll and sophomore Tanner Hunt to cap off the meet with a title in the 4x400m relay race. The team crossed the finish line in 3:09.84, the second-fastest time in school-history. Hartshorn was the lone champion on the women's side for Utah State, winning the javelin with a personal-best toss of 47.74m (156-07), good for second-best all-time at Utah State. Joining the above on the first-team all-Mountain West squad was junior Chari Hawkins, who finished runner-up in the 100m hurdles, crossing the finish line in 13.53. Additionally, senior Kylie Ross garnered third in the 400m hurdles after finishing in 59.59, good for fifth-fastest in USU history. On the men's side, senior Bryce Hall placed third in the shot put, recording a distance of 17.28m (56-08.50). Hawkins added a second-team all-Mountain West selection to her two first-team honors, taking fourth in the high jump with a leap of 1.73m (5-08.00). Junior Rachel Orr joined Hawkins on the second-team squad after also clearing a height of 1.73m (5-08.00), good for sixth. Hawkins also joined freshman Brittany Rawlins and seniors Chalese West and Bailee Whitworth in placing fifth in the 4x100m with a time of 46.30. West also earned second-team accolades with a sixth-place finish in the 200m, crossing the finish line in 24.32. Taking fifth in the 400m hurdles was junior Laycee Elliott, who finished with a time of 1:01.06. Senior Sam Nielson captured fifth-place in the triple jump, recording a mark of 12.26m (40-02.75). Junior Cree Taylor rounded out the second-team all-conference selections for the Aggie women, snagging sixth in the 100m hurdles with a time of 13.89. For the Utah State men, Hunt earned second-team all-Mountain West accolades with a fourth-place finish in the 400m, finishing in 47.50. Groll joined him with a time of 48.25 to take sixth. Junior Dan Mosman garnered fifth in the 400m hurdles, finishing with a time of 52.14. Finally, freshman Mitchell Kalinin snared second-team honors after taking fifth in the pole vault, clearing a height of 4.66m (15-03.50).
During the first full day of competition at the 2014 Mountain West Outdoor Track & Field Championships, Bowens blazed to a new school, stadium and meet record as he set the fastest time in the 100m preliminaries with a time of 10.13, good for fourth fastest in the nation this season. Hawkins set a new personal-record and earned first-team all-Mountain West honors en route to finishing runner-up in the long jump with a leap of 6.09m (19-11.75). Hawkins distance ranks second all-time at Utah State. Senior Keeley Eldredge garnered first-team all-conference honors after taking third in the hammer throw with a distance of 60.00m (196-10), good for second-best in school-history. Freshman Colby Wilson joined Hawkins and Eldredge on the first-team all-Mountain West squad, using a late charge to grab third in the 3,000m steeplechase with a time of 9:28.45. Also earning first-team all-conference accolades was senior Xavier Williford Jr. who recorded a distance of 1.99m (6-06.25) in the high jump to take third. Junior Eric Shellhorn crossed the finish line in the 3,000m steeplechase in 9:31.38, good for fifth to earn second-team all-conference honors. Sophomore Kevin Allen also earned second-team all-Mountain West accolades after placing fifth in the discus with a heave of 53.70m (176-02). Freshmen Jay Coleman Merrill and Cierra Simmons were also both named to the second-team all-Mountain West team as Merrill grabbed fifth in the high jump with a leap of 1.96 (6-05.00) and Simmons finished the 3,000m steeplechase in 11:30.93 to take sixth. Junior Ashley Robison finished sixth in the 10,000m after crossing the finish line in 38:30.22 to garner second-team all-conference honors as well.
