Utah State Has 112 Student-Athletes Receive Academic All-WAC Honors This Spring

LOGAN, Utah - The Western Athletic Conference announced its spring all-academic teams on Friday, along with its academic all-freshman/transfer teams, and Utah State had 112 student-athletes recognized as 57 earned all-academic team honors, while 55 more were named to the academic all-freshman/transfer team.

Of its 57 academic all-WAC selections from its spring sports, Utah State had 23 student-athletes from women's outdoor track honored, along with 15 from men's outdoor track, six from softball, five from both men's tennis and women's tennis, and three from the men's golf team.

Utah State's 57 academic honorees from its spring sports were the most in the league as New Mexico State was second with 45 recipients, followed by Seattle (41), UTSA (39), Idaho (38), Texas State (37), UT Arlington (35), Louisiana Tech (25), San Jose State (24) and Denver (19).

Utah State also had the most individuals honored in women's outdoor track and field (23) and men's outdoor track and field (15), while women's tennis (5) was tied for the most, and both men's tennis (5) and men's golf finished tied for the second-most honorees (3).

Senior cross country/track athlete Ruth Hilton earned academic all-WAC honors for the 11th time in her career, while fellow senior cross country/track athlete Stephanie Burt earned her ninth academic all-WAC honor. Senior track athlete Hollie Bosworth and junior cross country/track athlete Kyle McKenna both earned their eighth academic all-WAC honor, while senior track athlete Tyler Killpack was honored for the seventh time in his career.

Of the 57 USU student-athletes to earn spring academic all-WAC honors, 47 are receiving the accolade for at least the second time.

To be eligible, a student-athlete must have completed one academic year, have at least a 3.0 cumulative grade-point average and have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's contests.

During the 2012-13 academic year, Utah State had 209 student-athletes recognized by the league office for their academic achievements.
