Bill Irwin Named Academic Coordinator Within Utah State Athletics Department
Bill Irwin has been named an Academic Coordinator within the Utah State Athletics Department it was announced Thursday by Senior Associate Athletics Director for Student Athlete Services Dr. Brian Evans.
July 31, 2014 LOGAN, Utah - Bill Irwin has been named an Academic Coordinator within the Utah State Athletics Department it was announced Thursday by Senior Associate Athletics Director for Student Athlete Services Dr. Brian Evans. Irwin officially began his duties at USU on July 29.

In his position, Irwin will serve as the academic coordinator for USU's football team. Irwin replaces Jason Thomas who resigned after accepting the Director of Football Operations position at Wisconsin.

"I'm extremely pleased to have someone of Bill's caliber join our academic staff" said Evans. "His background, experience, and skill set exceed my expectations and he'll serve our student-athletes very well."

Irwin comes to Utah State after spending the past six years as an Academic Support Coordinator at Army working with the men and women's basketball, lacrosse and men's soccer programs. He was also the course director for the Student Success Course, which was designed for cadets making their way to West Point through the USMA Preparatory School.

"It has been my pleasure to serve and work with the Cadet athletes, staff and faculty at West Point. They are incredible Americans and I wish them the best," said Irwin. "I am looking forward to hitting the ground sprinting here at USU, getting to know the student-athletes and helping to make them even better than they think is possible. Brian and everyone at USU have been great and I look forward to building a lasting relationship across campus."

Before his position at Army, Irwin spent the 2007 season as the tight ends coach at Columbia. Prior to Columbia, Irwin was a coach and academic/life skills coordinator for the football team at Western New England College. During that time, he earned his master's degree in athletic counseling from Springfield College.

Irwin was a three-year starter at Connecticut, helping the Huskies to a Motor City Bowl win in its first-ever bowl appearance. Irwin was also named to the Rimington Trophy Watch List during his senior season in 2004.

Irwin, a native of Fairfax, Va., earned his bachelor's degree from Connecticut as he was a four-time award-winner for outstanding academic achievement. Irwin is married to the former Kacy Krisman.
