LOGAN, Utah - In an historic fundraising year, USU Athletics secured more than $6.4 million in total cash from July 1, 2016-June 30, 2017. This 69 percent increase from the previous year was the highest across all divisions on campus. In addition, USU Athletics secured 16.5 percent of all cash for Utah State University, an increase of 5.5 percent from last year. The $6.4 million received in cash was more than $1.4 million greater than any previous year in Utah State Athletics history.
“We are so appreciative of the generosity of our donor base towards the success of our student-athletes,” said Vice President and Director of Athletics John Hartwell. “It is important that we continue to strive every day to make sure that our donors receive ‘return on their investment’ through the success of our student-athletes in the classroom, on the fields of play, and ultimately in the game of life.”
Alumni and friends stepped up for USU student-athletes, as more than $4.1 million in gifts and pledges was received. Total donor support to Aggies Unlimited increased by 5.5 percent to 1,451 donors. Donors contributed $1.09 million to the Big Blue Scholarship Fund, while the Merlin Olsen Fund saw gifts and pledges increase by 64 percent to nearly $650,000.
“While we are proud of our fundraising accomplishments of the past year, we are excited in the fact we feel we have only scratched the surface of our opportunities,” stated Hartwell. “I believe that under the direction of new Deputy Athletics Director Coleman Barnes, and our strategic approach to all of our external constituents, that we will continue the impressive upward trend of our development revenues.”
