• Utah State’s soccer team (1-0) continues its 2016 season with two matches this week as it plays at Eastern Washington (1-0) on Monday, Aug. 22 at 1 p.m. (MT), and then hosts in-state rival Utah (1-0) in its home opener on Sunday, Aug. 28 at 1 p.m. USU is 3-3 all-time against the Eagles and 4-14 all-time against the Utes.

• Utah State began its 2016 season with a 1-0 road win at South Dakota State last weekend as senior forward Jessica Brooksby scored the team’s only goal in the 85th minute. She was assisted by sophomore midfielder Emma Clark, earning her first-career assist. On the night, Utah State tallied eight shots with three on goal, getting out-shot by the Jackrabbits, who took 12 shots. Making the second start of her career, sophomore Grace McGuire guarded the net for the Aggies and had three saves in the match, tying her career-best.

• Utah State’s volleyball team (0-0) will begin its 2016 season at the Oregon State hosted Ultra Ankle Challenge this weekend. USU will begin the tournament on Friday, Aug. 26 against the host Beavers (0-0) at 11 a.m. (MT). USU will then play two matches on Saturday, Aug. 27 against Seattle (0-0) and Portland (0-0) at 11 a.m. (MT) and 5 p.m. (MT), respectively. USU is 1-2 all-time against the Beavers, 3-0 all-time against the Redhawks and 5-3 all-time against the Pilots.

Preseason Notes
• Utah State, who was picked to finish ninth in the Mountain West preseason polls this year, returns all of its starters in 2016. The Aggie roster is headlined by the return of each of USU’s top attackers from last season in junior outside Rachel Gale (355 kills) and senior outside Kaylie Kamalu (341 kills). They are joined by junior right side Kayla DeCoursey, junior middle Carly Lenzen and sophomore middle Lauren O’Brien, who finished third, fourth and fifth in kills last season, totaling 144, 143 and 112, respectively. Senior setter Erica Moscoso will be looked to direct the attack, leading the team last season in assists with 622 and averaging 8.64 per set. Sophomore setter Kassidy Johnson also returns after appearing in 24 matches last season and finishing second on the team with 469 assists, averaging 7.00 per set. The offense will be complemented by an experienced back row, including returning starting libero Hannah Gleason, who led the Aggies last season with 506 digs, averaging 4.44 per set. Sophomore defensive specialist Tasia Taylor also returns after finishing third on the team with 223 digs, averaging 1.96 per set.
