This Week
Thur., Sept. 3 --- at No. 19 Utah, 7 p.m.
• Utah State's football team will kickoff the 2009 season at No. 19 Utah on Thursday, Sept. 3 at 7 p.m. The game will be televised live on the Mtn. USU is 28-76-4 all-time against the Utes which includes a 17-51-4 record in Salt Lake City. The Aggies have lost 11 straight games in the series and its last win against the Utes was on Aug. 30, 1997 in Salt Lake City, 21-14.

• Utah State is picked to finish seventh in the Western Athletic Conference this season after posting a 3-9 record in 2008, including a 3-5 league mark. The Aggies return 21 starters (O-10, D-7, ST-4) and 48 lettermen from last year's team.

Tues., Sept. 1 --- BRIGHAM YOUNG, 7 p.m.
• Utah State's volleyball team will play just one match this week as it hosts intrastate rival Brigham Young on Tuesday, Sept. 1 at 7 p.m., in the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum. USU is 14-40 all-time against the Cougars.

L, 3-2 --- vs. Gonzaga
L, 3-1 --- vs. Utah Valley
• Utah State went 1-2 last weekend at the Weber State Invitational as it defeated Weber State (3-1), and then lost to Gonzaga (3-2) and Utah Valley (3-1). Sophomore outside hitter Liz McArthur led USU against the Wildcats as she had a career-high 17 kills, while sophomore opposite side hitter Emily Kortsen had seven kills and a career-high 10 digs. The Aggies hit .206 (48-22-126) in the match as compared to a .056 (35-28-125) hitting percentage for the Wildcats. Against Gonzaga, Kortsen had a team-high 12 kills and junior middle blocker Shantell Durrant had a career-high 10 kills, while tying her career-high in blocks with five. Junior libero Christine Morrill posted a season-high 24 digs in the match. USU hit a season-low .086 (53-38-174) in the match, while GU hit .204 (56-27-142). Against Utah Valley, McArthur posted another career-high in kills with 18 and junior middle blocker Katie Astle tied her career-high with 11 kills. USU hit .223 (51-18-148) in the match, while UVU hit .326 (61-18-132).

Fri., Sept. 4 --- OKLAHOMA STATE, 4 p.m.
Sun., Sept. 6 --- WYOMING, 1 p.m.
• Utah State will play a pair of home matches this week as it hosts Oklahoma State on Friday, Sept. 4 at 4 p.m., and Wyoming on Sunday, Sept. 6 at 1 p.m. USU is 2-3 all-time against UW, while its match against OSU will be the first-ever meeting between the two schools.

W, 3-2 --- vs. Stephen F. Austin
• Utah State won the 12th annual Miner Classic hosted by UTEP this past weekend as it defeated Texas Tech and Stephen F. Austin by identical 3-2 scores. Junior forward Lauren Hansen led the Aggies in both matches as she scored the eventual game-winning goal against SFA in the 81st minute. Senior Erin Salmon and freshman Natalie Norris also had goals in the game for USU. Against Texas Tech, Hansen scored a pair of goals within three minutes of one another in the first-half to go along with a goal from sophomore Shantel Flanary. With its two wins this weekend, USU is off to its best start in school history with its 3-0-0 record.

Sat., Sept. 5 --- UTAH STATE OPEN, 9 a.m.
• Utah State's men's and women's cross country teams will begin its2009 season on Saturday, Sept. 5 when it hosts theUtah State Open at 9 a.m., at the American West Heritage Center,which is located south of Logan. The women will run a five-kilometerrace during the meet, while the men will run four miles.

• Utah State's men's cross country team has won four straight WAC Championships(2005, 2006, 2007, 2008) and returns seven letterwinners, including tworunners who earned first-team all-WAC honors at the 2008 WAC Cross CountryChampionships. Highlighting USU's returnees is senior Jason Holt who finished first at last year's WAC Championships and was named WAC Athlete of the Year, while senior Steve Strickland finished seventh and earned first-team all-WAC honors.

• Utah State's women's cross country team won its second conference title in the last three years as it won the 2008 WAC Championship. Highlighting USU's eight returnees on the women's side are sophomores Kim Quinn and Alicia Holt who finished ninth and 15th respectively at the WAC Championships last year as both earned second-team all-league honors. Also returning this season for the Aggies is stand out sophomore Ruth Hilton. Hilton placed 11th at the 2008 WAC Championships and earned second-team All-WAC honors as well.
