LOGAN, Utah - Utah State junior outside hitter Kaylie Kamalu has been named the America First Credit Union Student-Athlete of the Week for the period ending Sunday, Aug. 30, it was announced on Monday. The award is voted on by a state-wide media panel.
Kamalu (Kaysville, Utah) led Utah State volleyball to a 1-2 record last weekend at the Texas Tech Fall Invitational with losses against Texas Tech (3-0) and Houston (3-1) and a win against Louisiana-Lafayette (3-0). Against the Lady Raiders, Kamalu recorded team-highs of eight kills and nine digs, while finishing second on the team with four block assists. She then recorded her first of two double-doubles on the weekend with 10 kills and a career-high 11 digs against Houston, hitting .057 (10-8-35) while also logging a career-high three service aces. Kamalu recorded another double-double with 14 kills and 10 digs in USU's victory over Louisiana-Lafayette and matched her career-high showing of three service aces. For the weekend, Kamalu hit .084 (32-23-107) and was second on the team with 30 digs, while adding six service aces, four blocks and one assist.
Utah State returns to the court tomorrow night when the Aggies host Utah in a White Out match. Fans are encouraged to wear white with the match slated for a first serve of 7 p.m.

SOCCER - Junior midfielder Jayne Robison (Layton, Utah) helped Utah State to a 1-1 record last week as it lost at Utah Valley (1-0) and defeated Houston (2-0) at home. Robison had the game-winning goal in Sunday's match, as she scored in the fifth minute of action when the ball deflected off the crossbar. She tallied four shots between the two matches, three of which were on goal.
