Sat., Sept. 11 --- IDAHO STATE, 6 p.m.
Utah State's football team (0-1) will host Idaho State (1-0) in its home opener on Saturday, Sept. 11 at 6 p.m. USU is 13-2 all-time against the Bengals, which includes a 10-1 record at home. USU won the last meeting between the two teams, 38-33, on Sept. 14, 2002 in Logan.
L, 24-31 --- at #7 Oklahoma
Utah State stood toe-to-toe with seventh-ranked Oklahoma for much of the game before falling, 31-24, Saturday night in Norman. USU matched OU in total offense, as the Sooners had a 422-421 edge. The Aggies had 341 passing yards and 80 rushing yards. Senior quarterback Diondre Borel was 17-of-37 passing for the 341 yards with two TD passes, but was also intercepted three times. Junior Xavier Martin and sophomore Dontel Watkins both caught their first career TD catches as Aggies, as Martin finished with four catches for 60 yards and Watkins had three receptions for 91 yards. Sophomore Mikhail Morgan had four catches for 44 yards. Senior running back Michael Smith had eight carries for 48 yards with one TD, while fellow senior Derrvin Speight added 17 rushes for 46 yards. Junior linebacker Kyle Gallagher led the Aggies with a game-high 11 tackles, while senior linebacker Bobby Wagner posted eight stops. Senior cornerback Chris Randle added seven tackles to go with one interception, while junior linebacker Junior Keiaho also snared his first career interception of the game. The Sooners opened a 21-0 advantage before Utah State pulled within 21-17 on its second possession of the third quarter, as Borel hit Watkins for a 42-yard catch and run for a TD. The close gap didn't last long as OU's ensuing possession ended with a 63-yard scamper down the sideline putting the Sooners up 28-17. After OU added a 32-yard field goal by Patrick O'Hara, the Aggies marched down the field, capping the drive with a 31-yard TD pass from Borel to Martin, closing the margin to 31-24 with 2:31 left in the third quarter.

Utah State's soccer team (2-1-2) will play two matches this week as it hosts Colorado College (2-1-1) on Friday, Sept. 10 at 4 p.m., and Cal Poly (3-1) on Sunday, Sept. 12 at 1 p.m.

Utah State went 0-1-1 during the week as it lost at No. 24 Long Beach State, 2-1, and posted a 1-1 tie at San Diego State. Against the 49ers, freshman midfielder Kendra Pemberton scored just four minutes into the match to give USU a 1-0 lead. LBSU then scored two goals in the final 30 minutes for the win. Against SDSU, senior Lauren Hansen scored USU's only goal in the second-half to help the Aggies to a 1-1 tie.

Utah State's volleyball team (6-0) will travel to Missoula, Mont., this weekend to compete in the Montana Invitational. USU will begin the tournament on Friday, Sept. 10 against the host Grizzlies (2-5) at 7 p.m. Utah State will conclude the tournament on Saturday, Sept. 11 with matches against Temple (1-4) and North Dakota (6-2) at 10 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., respectively.

Utah State posted a perfect 4-0 record last week with a home win against Weber State (3-0), followed by victories against San Diego State (3-1), Seattle (3-2) and Arizona State (3-0) to win the Sheraton Classic hosted by the Sun Devils. Junior outside hitter Liz McArthur had 11 kills to lead USU against Weber State, while senior middle blocker Katie Astle had seven kills and hit .600 (7-1-10). USU hit .280 (40-14-93) in the match and held WSU to a .113 (31-20-97) hitting percentage. McArthur then posted her second double-double of the season with 20 kills and 10 digs against SDSU, while Astle had seven kills and hit .538 (7-0-13). USU hit .241 (56-18-158) in the match as the Aztecs hit .184 (59-27-174). McArthur added 22 kills and five digs against SU, while sophomore outside hitter Josselyn White had 12 kills, four digs and a career-high seven blocks. USU hit .225 (53-22-138) in the match and the Redhawks hit .176 (55-29-148). Against ASU, McArthur had 17 kills, while White had nine kills and a career-high seven digs as the Aggies hit a season-high .387 (47-11-93) and limited the Sun Devils to a .087 (30-22-92) hitting percentage.

Utah State's men's and women's cross country teams will return to action on Saturday, Sept. 18 when it travels to Bozeman, Mont., to compete in the Montana State Invitational.

Junior Brian McKenna took top honors at the Utah State Cross Country Open for the second straight year to lead the Aggie men to a first-place finish. The Aggie women, who were led by junior Jessie Chugg, placed fourth overall in the season opening meet for both teams. Utah State had four of the top five finishers on the men's side in the 6K race led by McKenna who finished in 21:49.9. Junior Daniel Howell placed third for USU (22:02.8), while Hunter Nelson was fourth (22:34.0) and Chio Lopez fifth (22:40.8). The Aggie men took first overall and Weber State came in second with the Utah Ski team in third. Utah State also had four more runners finish in the top 10 on the men's side as freshman Kyle McKenna placed seventh (22:55.4), sophomore Michael Budge was eighth (23:08.6), senior Eric Larson came in ninth (23:12.6) and freshman Jacob Barton placed 10th (23:13.7). Other Aggie finishers on the men's side include junior Aaron Clements in 14th (23:34.4), junior Steven Atkinson in 16th (23:55.7) and sophomore Devin Lang in 22nd (25:16.3). Chugg led the Aggie women in the 5K race with a time of 17:39.3 to finish in 11th-place, while fellow junior Ruth Hilton was 15th (17:45.6) and senior Kim Quinn came in 23rd (17:57.2). Other Aggie finishers on the women's side include sophomore Alex Litzsinger who placed 36th (18:14.0), sophomore Stephanie Burt was 38th (18:17.7), sophomore Marissa Floodman was 42nd (18:33.3), sophomore Laura Hatch was 50th (19:04.5), freshman Ashley Robison was 53rd (19:11.0), freshman Brittany Fisher was 55th (19:18.5), senior Lexie Meyer was 57th (19:27.4), freshman McKayla Williams was 58th (19:38.7), freshman Hailey Dutson was 61st (19:50.8), freshman Michelle Kaaen was 62nd (19:54.9) and sophomore Hazel Richardson was 67th (20:15.0).
