Sept. 8, 2003
LOGAN, Utah - Football player Chris Cooley was named the Utah State Athlete of the Week in a split vote over soccer player Lacy Gustaveson, it was announced on Monday. The weekly award is voted on by a local media panel.
Cooley, a senior tight end, caught six passes for 92 yards, including a 41-yard reception for Utah State's only score in its 31-7 loss at then 23rd-ranked Nebraska last Saturday. All of his catches came in the first half as the Aggies changed their blocking scheme in the second half and he did not run many routes.
The 92 yards were the third most in his career while the six catches tied for the second most in his career. He extended his streak of catching at least two passes in a game to nine straight contests.
