This Week
Fri., Sept. 27 --- at San Jose State, 7 p.m. (MT) (ESPN)
• Utah State's football team (2-2, 1-0) will continue its 2013 season this weekend as it returns to Mountain West play with a road game at San Jose State (1-2, 0-0) on Friday, Sept. 27 at 7 p.m. (MT) in a game that will be televised nationally on ESPN. USU is 14-20-1 all-time against the Spartans, including a 5-11-1 road record.

Last Week
L, 14-17 --- at USC
• Utah State football fought tooth and nail with the Trojans of USC, but came up short in a 17-14 loss at USC on Saturday, Sept. 21, 2013. The loss slips USU to an even 2-2, while USC improves to 3-1. Utah State totaled a season-low 285 yards of total offense, but still out-gained USC by three yards. The Aggies' yards came by way of 179 passing and 106 on the ground. Junior quarterback Chuckie Keeton was 21-of-39 for 179 yards with two touchdown passes. Senior wide receiver Travis Reynolds tied a career-high with five catches for 70 yards, including a 10-yard touchdown catch from Keeton to tie the game at 14-14 with 6:51 to play in the third quarter. Sophomore wide receiver Brandon Swindall snared Keeton's other touchdown pass on an 8-yard second-quarter catch. Senior running back Joey DeMartino gained 72 yards on nine carries, including a 55-yard dash to set up USU's first touchdown of the game. Junior running back Joe Hill added 51 yards rushing on five carries. The linebacker duo of senior Jake Doughty and junior Zach Vigil posted 12 tackles each, for a new career-high by Vigil. It was also Doughty's third double-digit tackle outing of the season and seventh of his career, while Vigil now has two double-digit tackle outings this year and seventh of his career. The Trojans totalled 282 yards of total offense with 164 passing and 118 rushing.

• Utah State's soccer team (4-1-2) continues its 2013 season with its first-ever Mountain West matches as it plays at Nevada (2-4-2, 0-0-0) on Friday, Sept. 27 at 8 p.m. (MT), and at UNLV (5-2-2, 0-0-0) on Sunday, Sept. 29 at 2 p.m. (MT). USU is 8-3-0 all-time against the Wolf Pack and 1-5-0 all-time against the Rebels.

L, 0-1 --- WEBER STATE
• Utah State posted a 0-2-0 record last week as it lost a road match at Utah, 3-0, and then lost a home match to Weber State, 1-0. Senior forward Jennifer Flynn came off the bench and finished the weekend tied for the team lead in shots with four as she had two shots against Utah and added two more against Weber State in 87 total minutes of action.

• Utah State's volleyball team (8-4, 2-0) will continue its 2013 season this week with a pair of Mountain West matches as it plays at Fresno State (6-6, 0-0) on Thursday, Sept. 26 at 8 p.m. (MT), and at San Jose State (3-7, 0-0) on Saturday, Sept. 28 at 8 p.m. (MT). USU is 12-9 all-time against the Bulldogs and 13-19-1 all-time against the Spartans.

W, 3-2 --- at Boise State
• Utah State posted a 2-0 Mountain West record last week with a 3-0 home win against Boise State, followed by a 3-1 road win against the Broncos. In its home match against the Broncos, sophomore opposite side hitter Elle Brainard had 11 kills and a season-high eight blocks, while senior outside hitter Tumua Etimani and junior middle blocker Kaitlyn VanHoff each added 10 kills. USU hit .281 (39-14-89) in the match and BSU hit .055 (34-28-109). In its road match against Boise State, junior outside hitter Rachel Orr had 14 kills, Brainard added 13 kills, and Etimani and VanHoff each posted 10 kills, while Etimani added 13 digs. USU hit .310 (55-16-126) in the match and BSU hit .209 (56-27-139).

• Utah State's men's golf team will continue its 2013 fall season on Monday, Sept. 23 when it travels to Boise, Idaho to compete in the Boise State hosted Dash Thomas Memorial on Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 23-24.

T-9th/16 --- at Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational, Colorado Springs, Colo.
• Utah State tied for ninth-place in the 16-team field Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational, hosted by the U.S. Air Force Academy with a 21-over 885 after shooting an 8-over 296 during its first round, followed by a 7-over 295 in the second round and a 6-over 294 in its final round. Junior Seokwon Jeon shot a final round 4-under 68 to record his best-ever tournament finish tying for fourth-place with a 5-under 211 (70-73-68). Junior Grahm Schmaltz tied for 37th-place with a 5-over 221 (77-74-70). Senior Tanner Higham tied for 56th with a 10-over 226 (71-74-81). Freshman Eli Rogers tied for 70th at 13-over 229 (78-74-77), and sophomore Brennan Coburn finished in 85th-place at 23-over 239 (81-79-79).

• Utah State's men's and women's cross country teams will continue its 2013 season on Saturday, Oct. 5 when it travels to Lehigh, Pa., to compete in the Lehigh Paul Short Run at 8 a.m. (MT).

M: 2/8; W:1/8--- at Montana State Invitational
• Utah State's men's and women's cross country teams continued their successful start to the 2013 season with the Aggie women winning the team title and the men placing second at the Bozeman Running Company Montana State Invitational in Bozeman, Mont., last weekend. The Aggie women took the top spot in the team standings in the three-mile race, while their male counterparts finished in second in the five-mile competition. Senior Alex Litzsinger (17:39.00) set the pace for the USU women with a fifth-place finish. Freshman Tori Parkinson wasn't far behind, as she took the sixth spot with a time of 17:49.00. Sophomore Jacqueline Winterton (17:56.00) and freshman Cierra Simmons (17:57.00) closed out the top 10 for USU with ninth and 10th-place finishes, respectively. On the men's side, senior Kyle McKenna led all Aggies with a time of 25:16.00, good for third-place. Close behind McKenna was junior Eric Shellhorn (25:22.00), who took fourth. Junior Jacob Barton (25:51.00) and sophomore Kade Jensen (25:56.00) finished eighth and ninth, respectively, to round out the top 10 finishers for Utah State.

• Utah State men's tennis will continue its 2013 fall season next week when it travels to Boise, Idaho to compete in the Boise State Fall Classic from Friday, Oct. 4 through Sunday, Oct. 6.

• Senior Andrew Whiting won three singles matches en route to placing third in Flight C at the Weber State Invitational last weekend, including a straight sets win against Weber State's James Smith (6-4, 7-6) in the third-place match. Freshman Tomas Cosmai won the seventh-place match in Flight B against junior teammate Curran Wearmouth in straight sets (6-2, 6-2). Senior Matt Thatcher teamed with Cosmai for an 11th-place finish in the doubles consolation draw, while Wearmouth and Whiting won the 13th-place match.

WOMEN'S TENNIS

• Utah State women's tennis will continue its 2013 fall season this week as it travels to Pullman, Wash., to compete in the Washington State Invitational from Friday, Sept. 27 through Sunday, Sept. 29.

Last Week
NTS --- at Boise State Classic
• Freshmen Katie Sweet and Lexi Turley both earned three singles wins at the Boise State hosted Jack Taylor Classic last weekend on their way to the championship match of the White Flight. Sweet, who didn't lose a set during her run to the finals, also posted a 1-1 record in the doubles bracket as did Turley. Junior McKenzie Davis also posted a 1-2 record in singles play and a 1-2 record in doubles competition with sophomore teamate Kallie Sperry who notched a 1-1 singles record. Freshman Cassidy Branstine also recorded a 1-2 singles record and a 1-1 doubles mark. Other Aggies to compete in the tournament included sophomores Amber Stuhlmann and Ashley Stuhlmann, who recorded a pair of doubles wins.
