This Week
Fri., Oct. 1 --- BRIGHAM YOUNG, 6 p.m.
• Utah State's football team (1-3) will return home and host in-state rival Brigham Young (1-3) on Friday, Oct. 1 at 6 p.m., in a game that will be televised nationally on ESPN. USU is 33-43-3 all-time against the Cougars, which includes a 17-15-2 record at home. USU has lost 10 straight games to BYU and its last win in the series was on Oct. 30, 1993 in Logan, 58-56.

L, 7-41 --- at San Diego State
• San Diego State scored 21 first-quarter points and Utah State couldn't recover, as the Aggies lost to the Aztecs, 41-7, Saturday night at Qualcomm Stadium. SDSU amassed 504 yards of total offense, including 308 yards in the first half, as the Aztecs opened a 28-0 lead at intermission. USU totalled 245 yards, with 115 rushing and 130 passing, as senior QB Diondre Borel was 14-of-31 for 130 yards. Senior RB Derrvin Speight had 11 carries for 51 yards and scored the Aggies' lone TD of the night with a 7-yard scamper in the third quarter after USU recovered a muffed punt return. Sophomore WR Dontel Watkins had five receptions for 51 yards. Defensively, junior LB Bobby Wagner notched a game-high 12 tackles, his third-straight game with double-digit stops. Junior DE Levi Koskan added five stops, including two tackles for loss. Aztec QB Ryan Lindley was 17-of-24 for 362 yards passing with three TD's, and was intercepted by the USU defense once, as sophomore CB Quinton Byrd snared his team-leading second pick of the season, to go with six tackles. SDSU WR Vincent Brown had five catches for 177 yards with two TD's while Ronnie Hillman had 23 carries for 89 yards with one TD.

• Utah State's soccer team (3-4-4, 0-0) will begin Western Athletic Conference action on the road as it plays at Louisiana Tech (10-2-0, 0-0) on Friday, Oct. 1 at 6 p.m. (MT), followed by a match at New Mexico State (5-2-2, 0-0) on Sunday, Oct. 3 at 1 p.m. (MT).

• Utah State went 0-2 last week as it lost at Utah, 2-1, and to No. 9 Brigham Young, 3-0, at home. Senior forward Lauren Hansen scored USU's only goal of the week, in the 54th minute against the Utes to tie the score at 1-1.

• Utah State's volleyball team (12-2, 0-1) will return home this weekend and host Fresno State (6-7, 1-1) on Thursday, Sept. 30 and San Jose State (6-9, 1-1) on Saturday, Oct. 2 in the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum with both matches beginning at 7 p.m.

L, 0-3 --- at #5 Hawai'i
• Utah State began Western Athletic Conference play with a three-set loss (26-24, 25-17, 25-17) at No. 5 Hawai'i last weekend. Junior outside hitter Liz McArthur led Utah State with 12 kills and 11 digs as she posted her third-straight double-double and the 11th of her career. Senior libero Christine Morrill added 13 digs for Utah State, while sophomore libero Laurel Bodily had eight digs to go along with two service aces. Overall, Utah State hit a season-low .108 (29-17-111) in the match and Hawai'i hit .235 (45-18-115). UH also had 14 more digs (59-45), 3.5 more team blocks (10.0-6.5) and two more service aces (6-4) in the match, while both teams finished with five service errors.

Fri., Oct. 1 --- at Notre Dame Invitational, 9 a.m.
• Utah State's men's and women's cross country teams will return to action on Friday, Oct. 1 when it travels to South Bend, Ind., to compete in the Notre Dame Invitational.

Last Competition
M - 2/11; W - T-3/6 --- at Montana State Invitational
• Junior Brian McKenna led the Aggie men to a second-place team finish at the Montana State Invitational Saturday, while the women finished tied for third, as the men had four runners finish in the top 15 and the women had three. It is the second-straight race that McKenna was the men's top finisher, completing the five-mile course in 25:05.00 to finish second overall. Following McKenna was junior Daniel Howell clocking in at 25:25.00 in seventh place. Two more Aggies finished in the top 15 for the men, including junior Hunter Nelson (26:02.00) in 12th place and freshman Kyle McKenna (26:06.00) in 13th place. Junior Jessie Chugg was the Aggies' top finisher on the women's side for the second race in a row as well, completing the three-mile course in 17:42.00 to place eighth. USU had two finishers in the top 15 as sophomore Ruth Hilton clocked in at 17:48.00 in 11th place and sophomore Alex Litzsinger crossed the finish line in 21st place (18:06.00).

• Utah State's golf team will return to action on Monday, Oct. 4 when it competes in the Nevada Classic hosted by the University of Nevada-Reno.

Last Week
10/18 --- at Air Force Invitational
• Utah State's Tyson McFarland shot a final round 75 to tie for 15th-place with a two-over 218 at the 42nd annual Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational hosted by Air Force last weekend. As a team, Utah State finished in 10th-place with a 29-over 893 (304-291-298) out of 18 teams. McFarland fired a two-under 70 during his first round and then shot a one-over 73 in his second round before carding a three-over 75 in his final 18 holes. Senior Chanse Godderidge finished tied for 39th with an eight-over 224 (72-78-74), while sophomore Austin French finished in 75th-place with a 15-over 231 (80-70-81). Sophomore Brendan Dennis had the low round of the day for the Aggies during the final 18 holes with a one-over 73 as he finished tied for 83rd with a 17-over 233 (82-78-73). Senior Benjamin Schilleman was tied for 43rd after the first day of competition as he carded rounds of 79 and 70 for a five-over 149, but was later disqualified for dropping in an illegal area during his first round. Schilleman finished the tournament by shooting a four-over 76 during his final 18 holes.

• Utah State's men's tennis team will return to action on Thursday, Oct. 14 when it travels to Salt Lake City to compete in the Utah Invitational that runs through Saturday, Oct. 16.

NTS --- UTAH STATE OPEN
• Sophomore Sven Poslusny won the singles consolation draw at the Utah State Invitational last weekend as he defeated senior teammate Alex Thatcher in straight sets (6-3, 7-6). Seniors Jakob Asplund and Bryan Marchant advanced to the semifinals of the doubles draw before losing to a team from Weber State, 9-8. Other Aggies to compete in the tournament include senior Nikita Ryashchenko, juniors Nate Ballam and Lenny Whiting, and freshman Frederick Peterson.

• Utah State's women's tennis team will return to action on Friday, Oct. 1 when it hosts the Utah State Open. The tournament will conclude on Saturday, Oct. 2.

Last Competition
NTS --- at BYU Invitational
• Junior Taylor Perry was Utah State's top finisher at the Brigham Young Fall Invitational last weekend as she finished first in the `B' singles draw and second in the doubles draw with sophomore teammate Jaclyn West. In the `B' singles draw, Perry defeated BYU's Andie Young in straight sets (6-4, 6-2) in the championship match to finish the tournament with a perfect 3-0 record. Senior Hailey Swenson also had a solid weekend for USU as she won the consolation `A' singles draw with a 5-1 record after defeating Colorado State's Veronica Wojakowska in straight sets (6-0, 6-2) in the championship match. Other Aggies to compete during the tournament include juniors Monica Abella, Brianna Harris and Julie Tukuafu, sophomores Jenny Phillips, Kristina Voytsekhovich, Whitney White and Mersadi Wilkins, and freshmen Michelle Warwick and Kimberly Watts.
