This Week
Sat., Oct. 10 --- at New Mexico State, 6 p.m.
• Utah State (1-3, 0-0) will begin Western Athletic Conference play on Saturday, Oct. 10 at New Mexico State (2-3, 0-1) at 6 p.m. (MT). The game will be televised live on Altitude. USU is 27-6 all-time against NMSU, which includes a 15-2 record in Las Cruces. Overall, USU has won two straight in the series.

Last Week
L, 17-35 --- at No. 20 Brigham Young
• Utah State tallied 322 yards of total offense, its 10th-consecutive game of 300-plus yards, in its 35-17 loss at No. 20 Brigam Young. Junior quarterback Diondre Borel was 20-of-28 passing for 213 yards with a TD to senior wide receiver Xavier Bowman in the waning seconds. Borel also had 38 yards rushing and another score, marking the third-straight game and fifth of his career that Borel has rushed and thrown for a TD in the same game. Senior wide receiver Omar Sawyer had a team-leading four catches for 58 yards, one of a season-high 12 different players with a catch. BYU posted 431 yards of total offense, led by Max Hall's 218 yards passing on 16-of-23 with three TD's, but the Aggies intercepted him twice, the second two-pick game for the USU defense. Junior cornerback Rajric Coleman posted a career-high 13 tackles to go with his first career interception. Sophomore linebacker Bobby Wagner, who entered the game leading the WAC and ranking tied for 14th in the country in tackles with 11 per game, was one stop above his average with 12 tackles. Wagner, who added a fumble recovery Friday, registered his third double-digit tackle outing in four games this season. Senior safety James Brindley added 11 stops to go with USU's lone sack of the game, while senior cornerback Kejon Murphy posted his first interception of the season. Junior punter Peter Caldwell had a career day, booming five punts for a 49.2 ypg average, including a career-best three punts of over 50 yards and pinning BYU inside the 5-yard line twice.

• Utah State (5-7-1, 0-0) will continue Western Athletic Conference play this week with a pair of road matches at Boise State (6-4-4, 1-1) on Friday, Oct 9 at 4 p.m., and at Idaho (8-5-0, 1-1) on Sunday, Oct. 11 at 2 p.m. (MT). USU is 8-2 all-time against the Broncos and 9-1 all-time against the Vandals.

Last Week
L, 0-1 --- at Nevada
• Utah State went 0-2 last week as it lost a pair of 1-0 matches to Idaho State at home and at Nevada in its WAC opener. Sophomore goalkeeper Molli Merrill as she collected five saves against the Bengals and one save against the Wolf Pack.

• Utah State (10-6, 2-2) will continue Western Athletic Conference play this week with a pair of road matches at Fresno State (8-7, 1-2) on Thursday, Oct. 8 and at Nevada (5-11, 1-2) on Saturday, Oct. 10, with both contests beginning at 8 p.m. (MT). USU is 8-6 all-time against the Bulldogs and 10-18 all-time against the Wolf Pack.

Last Week
W, 3-2 --- BOISE STATE
• Utah State went 2-0 last week as it won a pair of Western Athletic Conference matches at home against San Jose State (3-0) and Boise State (3-2). Against the Spartans, sophomore outside hitter Liz McArthur had a team-high nine kills, while junior middle blocker Katie Astle had six kills and hit .667 (6-0-9). USU hit .156 (31-14-109) in the match and SJSU hit .140 (39-22-121). Against the Broncos, McArthur had a match-high 23 kills and hit .413 (23-4-46), while sophomore opposite side hitter Emily Kortsen had 14 kills and 14 digs, and hit .344 (14-4-32). Junior setter Chelsea Fowles added a career-high nine kills and a season-high 56 assists in the match, while hitting .471 (9-1-17). USU hit .273 (70-22-176) in the match as compared to a .253 (71-24-186) hitting percentage for BSU.

Mon.-Tues., Oct. 5-6 --- at Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate, All Day
• Utah State's golf team will continue its fall schedule this week as it travels to Palm Desert, Calif., to compete in the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate on Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 5-6.

Last Week
T4th/11 --- at Purple & Red Invitational
• Junior Benjamin Schilleman shot a final round 71 to finish tied for third with a five-under par 211 at the Purple & Red Invitational co-hosted by Utah and Weber State last week. As a team, Utah State entered the final day of competition tied for ninth, but shot an ever par 288 to finish tied for fourth with a 10-over 874 (295-291-288). In fact, that even par score for USU was the third-best round of the day by any of the 11 teams competing. Schilleman entered the final 18 holes in fifth-place after shooting rounds of 71 and 69. During his final round, Schilleman shot a one-under 71 to finish at five-under for the tournament. Junior Tyson McFarland had the best round for Utah State as he fired a four-under 68 and finished tied for 17th with a two-over 218 (78-72-68). Senior Thad Truman tied for 24th overall with a four-over 220 (72-74-74) and freshman Tanner Higham tied for 40th with a nine-over 225 (74-76-75). Freshman Austin French also competed for USU and finished in 67th-place with a 26-over 242 (84-81-77). Utah State also had two individuals compete in the tournament as senior Brandon Broadhead finished 62nd with a 17-over 233 (77-79-77) and freshman Brendan Dennis finished in 68th-place with a 27-over 243 (81-82-80).

Thur.-Sat., Oct. 8-10 --- UTAH STATE OPEN, All Day
• Utah State's women's tennis team will return to action on Thursday, Oct. 8 when it hosts the Utah State Open. The tournament will run from Thursday through Saturday.

Last Competition
NTS --- at BYU Invitational
• Senior Britney Watts led Utah State at the BYU Invitational last weekend as she won the silver feed-in bracket with a 6-1, 6-1 victory against Weber State's Brittiny Moore in the championship match. Watts finished the tournament with a 4-1 record in singles play. Other Aggies who competed in the tournament included junior Hailey Swenson who went 1-1 in the `A' bracket, freshman Jenny Phillips who went 1-1 in the `B' bracket, junior Taylor Perry and freshman Jaclyn West who went 1-1 in the silver feed-in bracket, freshman Kristina Voytsekhovich who went 2-1 in the `A' bracket, sophomore Carla Limon who went 0-1 in the silver feed-in, and freshman Sadi Wilkins who also went 0-1 in the silver feed-in bracket

Sat., Oct. 17 --- at Pre-Nationals, Terre Haute, Ind., 9 a.m.
• Utah State's men's and women's cross country teams will return to action on Saturday, Oct. 17 when it travels to Terre Haute, Ind., to compete in a Pre-National meet.

Last Week
M-9th/23; W-21st/22 --- at Notre Dame Invitational
• Utah State men's cross country team finished ninth at the 54th Annual Notre Dame Invitational Friday in South Bend, Ind. Sophomore Brian McKenna was the Aggies top finisher for the third-straight time this season, placing 24th overall clocking in at 24:19 in the 8k race.McKenna was followed by senior Jason Holt in 51st place, clocking in at 24:47. Following close behind Holt was freshman Daniel Howell (24:48) in 53rd. Other finishers for the men included senior Steve Strickland (24:52) in 60th place, sophomore Steven Atkinson (24:57) in 68th place, junior Eric Larson (25:17) in 97th place, junior Nick Bolinder (26:03) in 141st, junior Chio Lopez (26:10) finishing 146th and junior Casey Snider (26:20) in 155th. On the women's side sophomore Jessi Chugg was the Aggies' leading runner, finishing 121st in 18:26. Chugg was also the Aggies' top finisher in their last race, the Montana State Invitational. Five of the remaining eight Aggie women were able to finish in a pack. The group all finished within 13 positions of each other, 125th through 138th, starting with senior Erin Stratton (18:30) in 125th followed by freshman Alex Litzsinger (18:31) in 126th place. Junior Kim Quinn (18:35) came in 130th, junior Alicia Holt (18:39) finished 136th and junior Justine Baugh (18:39) finished 138th. Other Aggie women finishers included freshman Kaylee Campbell (18:56) in 154th, freshman Marissa Floodman (19:41) in 173rd and freshman Stephanie Burt (20:25) in 178th.

Next Competition
Wed.-Sat., Oct. 14-17 --- at Utah Invitational, All Day
• Utah State's men's tennis team will return to action on Wednesday, Oct. 14 when it competes in the Utah Invitational in Salt Lake City.

Last Competition
• Utah State had several individuals advance in both singles and doubles play at its own Utah State Open last weekend. USU had two teams advance to the finals in doubles play as juniors Jakob Asplund and Bryan Marchant lost, 8-3, while the tandem of junior Nikita Ryashchenko and freshman Sven Poslunsy lost in the finals of the consolation round, 9-7. In singles play, Marchant lost in the final round in three sets (2-6, 6-1, 6-2) to Simon Unger of Weber State. Other Aggies who competed during the weekend include senior Amit Maharaj, juniors Jose Limon and Alex Thatcher, sophomore Nate Ballam, and freshman Alex Daines.
