This Week
Sat., Oct. 12 --- BOISE STATE, 6 p.m. (CBS Sports Network)
• Utah State's football team (3-3, 2-0) will continue its 2013 season this weekend as it hosts Mountain West foe Boise State (3-2, 1-1) on Saturday, Oct. 12 at 6 p.m., in a game that will be televised nationally on the CBS Sports Network (Comcast Ch. 269/753HD, Dish Network Ch. 158, DirecTV Ch. 221). USU is 4-13 all-time against the Broncos, including a 2-6 home record.

• Utah State lost to Brigham Young, 31-14, last weekend at a chilly, sold out Merlin Olsen Field at Romney Stadium. The loss leveled the Aggies' season record at 3-3. BYU improved to 3-2 with the win. The Aggies totalled 397 yards of total offense with 186 rushing and 211 passing, while the Cougars collected 438 yards of total offense with 278 through the air and 160 on the ground. Junior quarterback Craig Harrison was 18-of-41 passing for 185 yards with one touchdown, coming on in place of fellow junior quarterback Chuckie Keeton in the first quarter after Keeton went down with a knee injury and never returned. Keeton was 4-of-10 passing for 26 yards and a touchdown, adding three rushes for 17 yards before the injury. Senior running back Joey DeMartino rushed for 80 yards on 16 carries, while Harrison rushed for 38 yards on six carries and freshman running back Kennedy Williams amassed a season-high 37 yards on six rushes. The senior duo of wide receiver Travis Reynolds and tight end D.J. Tialavea each had four receptions, with Reynolds totaling 47 yards and Tialavea tallying 21 yards. Junior tight end Keegan Andersen matched Reynolds with 47 yards on three catches. Senior linebacker Jake Doughty registered a team-high 14 tackles, while sophomore linebacker Kyler Fackrell tallied a new career-high with 13 stops. Doughty logged 2.5 tackles for loss, while Fackrell recorded a pair of tackles for loss. Junior linebacker Zach Vigil notched 11 tackles and forced a first-quarter fumble to set up USU's first touchdown of the night.

• Utah State's soccer team (6-4-2, 2-1-0) continues its 2013 season with a pair of Mountain West road matches this weekend at Fresno State (5-7-1, 2-2-0) on Friday, Oct. 11 at 8 p.m. (MT) and at San Jose State (2-10-0, 1-3-0) on Sunday, Oct. 13 at 1 p.m. (MT). USU is 3-6-3 all-time against the Bulldogs and 5-2-2 all-time against the Spartans.

• Utah State posted a 1-0-0 Mountain West record last weekend with a 1-0 home win against Wyoming. Senior forward Jennifer Flynn scored the game-winning goal for USU in the 52nd minute, while sophomore goalkeeper Jeannie Woller had four saves. USU was also scheduled to host Air Force, but that match was postponed due to the partial government shutdown.

• Utah State's volleyball team (9-6, 3-2) will continue its 2013 season this week with a pair of Mountain West road matches at Colorado State (13-0, 4-0) on Thursday, Oct. 10 at 7 p.m., and at Wyoming (11-7, 1-3) on Saturday, Oct. 12 at 6:30 p.m. USU is 14-17 all-time against the Rams and 13-13 all-time against the Cowgirls.

• Utah State lost its only match of the week at home to New Mexico, 3-0, last weekend. USU was also scheduled to host Air Force, but that match was postponed due to the partial government shutdown. Against UNM, sophomore opposite side hitter Elle Brainard had 11 kills, while junior middle blocker Kaitlyn VanHoff added 10 kills, and junior libero Ashlan Rogers-Court recorded 13 digs. USU hit just .031 (32-28-129) in the match and UNM hit .233 (42-14-120).

• Utah State's men's golf team will continue its 2013 fall season on Monday, Oct. 7 when it competes in the Utah Invitational in Park City, Utah. The tournament will run through Tuesday, Oct. 8.

5th/12 --- at Dash Thomas Memorial, Boise, Idaho
• Utah State's Tanner Higham shot a final round 4-under par 67 to claim his first-ever tournament title with a collegiate-best 8-under 205 (71-67-67) at the Boise State hosted Dash Thomas Memorial. Utah State finished the tournament in fifth-place out of 12 teams with a 15-over 867 (287-283-297). Overall, Higham is the first Aggie golfer to win a tournament outright since the fall of 1996 when Todd Tanner won medalist honors after carding a 3-over 147 (77-70) at the Stevinson Ranch Invitational in Stanislaus, Calif. Furthermore, Higham's 8-under 205 is the best 54-hole score by an Aggie golfer since the fall of 2007 when Devin Daniels carded a 12-under par 204 (70-64-70) to finish tied for 15th at the Agua-Caliente Air Force Invitational in Palm Springs, Calif. At the Dash Thomas Memorial, Higham began the tournament with an even-par 71 before firing a season-low 4-under par 67 during his second 18 holes. During his final round, Higham again shot a 4-under 67 to defeat Cal State Fullerton's Mark Anguiano by one stroke as he finished with a 7-under 206 (70-70-66). Sophomore Seokwon Jeon finished tied for 17th-place with a 4-over 217 (69-72-76), while freshman Eli Rogers tied for 32nd-place with a 10-over 223 (74-70-79). Junior Grahm Schmaltz finished tied for 40th-place with a 12-over 225 (73-77-75), and freshman Braxton Miller tied for 54th-place with a 17-over 230 (77-74-79). Sophomore Brennan Coburn also competed for USU as an individual and finished tied for 40th-place with a 12-over 225 (78-73-74).

• Utah State's men's and women's cross country teams will continue its 2013 season on Saturday, Oct. 19 when it travels to Terre Haute, Ind., to compete in the Indiana State Pre-Nationals at 10 a.m. (MT).

Last Week
M: 9/47; W:21/48--- at Lehigh Invitational
• Utah State's men's cross country team placed ninth out of 47 teams with 393 points at the 40th annual Paul Short Run, hosted by Lehigh University last weekend. On the women's side, Utah State placed 21st out of 48 teams with 615 points. Indiana claimed the top spot in the men's race, while Georgetown took first on the women's side. Senior Kyle McKenna placed 31st out of 397 runners with a time of 24:38 in the College Men's Gold 8K Race and had the fastest eight-kilometer race in the Mountain West Conference thus far this season. Junior Eric Shellhorn also had a strong showing, finishing 42nd with a time of 24:48. Freshman Tori Parkinson led the way for the women's team, placing 87th out of the field of 406 with a time of 21:41 in the College Women's Gold 6K Race.

• Utah State men's tennis will continue its 2013 fall season this week at the Utah Invitational from Friday, Oct. 11 through Sunday, Oct. 13.

NTS --- at Boise State Fall Classic
• Freshman Sebastian Schneider won the Orange Flight singles bracket by winning five straight matches, including a semifinal victory against the number-one seed in the bracket, Weber State's Caio Poitena at the Boise State hosted Dar Walters Tennis Classic last weekend. Schneider also posted a 1-1 doubles record with fellow freshman Dennis Baumgartner who posted a 2-1 record in the singles competition. Junior Sean Levesque also went 2-1 in the singles tournament, and 0-1 in doubles play with senior teammate Fredrik Peterson, who went 1-2 in the singles portion of the tournament.

• Utah State women's tennis will conclude its 2013 fall season this week as it travels to Las Vegas, Nev., to compete in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Regionals from Wednesday, Oct. 9 through Sunday, Oct. 13.

NTS --- at Washington State Invitational
• Sophomore Kallie Sperry led Utah State at the Washington State hosted Cougar Classic last weekend as she won two singles matches on her way to the quarterfinals of the Crimson Flight. Sperry also advanced to the finals of the Crimson Doubles Flight with junior teammate McKenzie Davis by capturing three doubles wins. Freshman Cassidy Branstine posted a 3-1 singles record as she won the Crimson Singles Consolation Bracket, while sophomore Amber Stuhlmann also posted a 3-1 singles record to win the Gray Singles Consolation Bracket. Freshman Lexi Turley notched a 2-1 singles record, while sophomore Ashley Stuhlmann went 1-2 in singles play and posted a 2-1 record in doubles competition. Other Aggies to compete in the tournament include freshman Katie Sweet.
