Sat., Oct. 17 --- NEVADA, 1 p.m.
• Utah State (1-4, 0-1) will continue Western Athletic Conference play on Saturday, Oct. 17 as its hosts Nevada (2-3, 1-0) at 1 p.m. (MT). The game will be televised live on CW30 (Comcast Ch. 15). USU is 4-14 all-time against the Wolf Pack, which includes a 2-9 home record.

L, 17-20 --- at New Mexico State
• New Mexico State's Kyle Hughes' 28-yard field goal as time expired gave NMSU a 20-17 win against Utah State Saturday night in USU's Western Athletic Conference opener. The loss offset a milestone night for sophomore running back Robert Turbin who ran for a career-best 184 yards, the most for a USU running back since Emmett White's 233 yards vs. Weber State in 2001. Turbin also went over the 1,000 career rushing yards milestone in the game. Against NMSU, Utah State amassed 429 yards of total offense with 258 rushing and 171 passing, but had 12 penalties for 128 yards. New Mexico State posted 230 total offense yards, on 149 rushing and just 81 passing, the lowest for a USU defense since 72 at North Texas in 2000. Turbin posted his 184 yards on 24 carries, while junior quarterback Diondre Borel was 15-of-25 passing for 156 yards with one TD, a 21-yard pass to senior wide receiver Xavier Bowman. Sophomore wide receiver Stanley Morrison also had a TD pass, a 15-yard end around pass to senior wide receiver Omar Sawyer. Sophomore linebacker Bobby Wagner, the WAC's leading tackler, made 11 stops while three other navy Aggies made eight each.

Sun., Oct. 18 --- SAN JOSE STATE, 1 p.m.
• Utah State (7-7-1, 2-1) will continue Western Athletic Conference play this week with a pair of home matches as it hosts Fresno State (4-9-0, 2-1) on Friday, Oct. 16 at 3 p.m., and San Jose State (7-4-2, 2-0-1) on Sunday, Oct. 18 at 1 p.m. (MT). USU is 1-4-2 all-time against the Bulldogs and 3-1-1 all-time against the Spartans.

• Utah State went 2-0 last weekend as it won a pair of Western Athletic Conference matches on the road against Boise State (1-0) and Idaho (2-1 2OT). Against the Broncos, freshman defender Natalie Norris scored the only goal of the match in the 67th minute to give USU the win. Against the Vandals, senior forward Erin Salmon scored the game-winning goal in double-overtime off an assist from sophomore midfielder Allie Maduell. USU scored the first goal of the match in the 14th minute as sophomore midfielder Shantel Flanary scored on a pass from junior midfielder Heather Pond.

Thur., Oct. 15 --- FRESNO STATE, 7 p.m.
• Utah State (10-8, 2-4) will play a non-conference match at Utah Valley (12-6) on Tuesday, Oct. 13 at 7 p.m., and then return to Western Athletic Conference play with a home match against Fresno State (10-7, 3-2) on Thursday, Oct. 15 at 7 p.m. USU is 4-2 all-time against the Wolverines and 8-7 all-time against the Bulldogs.

• Utah State went 0-2 last week as it lost a pair of Western Athletic Conference matches on the road to Fresno State (3-1) and Nevada (3-2). Against the Bulldogs, sophomore outside hitter Liz McArthur had 11 kills to lead the team, while junior middle blocker Katie Astle had seven kills and hit .778 (7-0-9). USU hit .112 (38-24-125) in the match and FSU hit .182 (51-25-143). Against the Wolf Pack, sophomore opposite side hitter Emily Kortsen recorded her second double-double of the season with 11 kills and 15 digs to go along with four block assists and a .300 (11-2-30) hitting percentage. McArthur added 12 kills in the match, and junior libero Christine Morrill had 19 digs. USU hit .108 (45-28-157) overall as compared to a .133 (61-37-180) hitting percentage for UN.

• Utah State's golf team will continue its fall schedule this week as it travels to St. George, Utah to compete in the Utah Collegiate Shootout on Saturday, Oct. 17.

Last Week
16th/16 --- at Wyoming Desert Invitational
• Utah State's golf team finished in 16th-place with a 68-over par 932 (325-296-311) at the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate last week. Senior Thad Truman was Utah State's top individual performer as he finished tied for 50th with an 11-over 227 after shooting rounds of 79, 74 and 74. Junior Benjamin Schilleman was the Aggies next finisher as he tied for 61st with a 15-over 231 (78-74-79). Freshman Tanner Higham finished in 83rd-place with a 21-over 237 (85-74-78), while freshman Brendan Dennis tied for 84th with a 22-over 238 (83-74-81). Junior Tyson McFarland was USU's fifth competitor during the tournament and finished in 89th-place with a 26-over 242 (86-76-80).

• Utah State's women's tennis team will conclude its fall schedule this week as it competes in the ITA Regionals held in Las Vegas, Nev., from Wednesday, Oct. 14 through Saturday, Oct. 17.

NTS --- UTAH STATE OPEN
• Junior Hailey Swenson led Utah State at its own Utah State Open this past week as she defeated freshman teammate Jaclyn West, 6-4, 6-3, to win the A Flight championship. Swenson and West also teamed up to record the A Flight doubles championship. In the B Flight, freshman Kristina Voytsekhovich defeated junior teammate Taylor Perry, 6-3, 6-3, in the championship match. In the C Flight, senior Britney Watts lost in the championship match to Weber State's Elsje Beneke, 6-1, 2-6, 6-10. Other Aggies who competed in the tournament include sophomores Monica Abella and Carla Limon, and freshmen Jenny Phillips and Sadi Wilkins.

• Utah State's men's and women's cross country teams will return to action on Saturday, Oct. 17 when it travels to Terre Haute, Ind., to compete in a Pre-National meet.

M-9th/23; W-21st/22 --- at Notre Dame Invitational
• Utah State men's cross country team finished ninth at the 54th Annual Notre Dame Invitational Friday in South Bend, Ind. Sophomore Brian McKenna was the Aggies top finisher for the third-straight time this season, placing 24th overall clocking in at 24:19 in the 8k race.McKenna was followed by senior Jason Holt in 51st place, clocking in at 24:47. Following close behind Holt was freshman Daniel Howell (24:48) in 53rd. Other finishers for the men included senior Steve Strickland (24:52) in 60th place, sophomore Steven Atkinson (24:57) in 68th place, junior Eric Larson (25:17) in 97th place, junior Nick Bolinder (26:03) in 141st, junior Chio Lopez (26:10) finishing 146th and junior Casey Snider (26:20) in 155th. On the women's side sophomore Jessi Chugg was the Aggies' leading runner, finishing 121st in 18:26. Chugg was also the Aggies' top finisher in their last race, the Montana State Invitational. Five of the remaining eight Aggie women were able to finish in a pack. The group all finished within 13 positions of each other, 125th through 138th, starting with senior Erin Stratton (18:30) in 125th followed by freshman Alex Litzsinger (18:31) in 126th place. Junior Kim Quinn (18:35) came in 130th, junior Alicia Holt (18:39) finished 136th and junior Justine Baugh (18:39) finished 138th. Other Aggie women finishers included freshman Kaylee Campbell (18:56) in 154th, freshman Marissa Floodman (19:41) in 173rd and freshman Stephanie Burt (20:25) in 178th.

• Utah State's men's tennis team will return to action on Wednesday, Oct. 14 when it competes in the Utah Invitational in Salt Lake City.

NTS --- UTAH STATE OPEN
• Utah State had several individuals advance in both singles and doubles play at its own Utah State Open last weekend. USU had two teams advance to the finals in doubles play as juniors Jakob Asplund and Bryan Marchant lost, 8-3, while the tandem of junior Nikita Ryashchenko and freshman Sven Poslunsy lost in the finals of the consolation round, 9-7. In singles play, Marchant lost in the final round in three sets (2-6, 6-1, 6-2) to Simon Unger of Weber State. Other Aggies who competed during the weekend include senior Amit Maharaj, juniors Jose Limon and Alex Thatcher, sophomore Nate Ballam, and freshman Alex Daines.
