LOGAN, Utah -
Utah State Athletics Director Scott Barnes' quotes from the press conference announcing Utah State signing new television rights package with XXL Sports and Cis-Com Productions
Utah State Athletics Director Scott Barnes
"We are here today to announce what we believe is an unparalleled television opportunity for Aggie athletics. Along with our multimedia rights holder, Aggie Sports Properties, we are happy to announce a partnership that will include Jim Neely, president of XXL Communications Sports Group, as well as Bob Stokes from Cis-Com, and what we believe to be an exciting expansion of our opportunities for television. It is an agreement that will reach beyond the borders of Utah and will provide continued coverage throughout the states of Wyoming, Nevada and Idaho. The first year of the agreement will include 13 contests: 10 basketball and three football. That, I think, along with our existing and relatively new agreement with ESPN, puts us in a position we have not been in, in terms of our opportunity to cast a wider net to Aggie fans everywhere and bring more exposure and opportunity to build the athletic brand."
"There is a list of games that will be produced. We are going to start with Nevada football. So our first meeting in earnest this morning was to tie up all the loose ends for our opportunity this Saturday against Nevada in football. It will be on CW 30. You can find that on Direct Television, Dish Network and Comcast. So it is really a broad base in terms of exposure for this."
"Our opportunities are to use that as a threshold and grow. I think it is important to mention that we really believe this is a partnership with individuals that have a great appreciation and desire to grow Aggie athletics. Bob Stokes is a former basketball player and alum."
ON THE TELEVISING OF HOME GAMES...
"What we look at is what an unbelievable product we have and an opportunity to showcase our student athletes and coaches to a broad audience that is going to grow our attendance. So we don't look at that as a negative at all."
ON TELEVISING OTHER SPORTS...
"We have women's basketball that we will include. In addition to that we will be doing some streaming opportunities with many of our sports across Comcast networks. So we have the base line of television and addition to that we will have other opportunities for exposure."
