This Week
Sat., Oct. 18 --- at Colorado State, 5 p.m. (CBS SN)
• Utah State's football team (4-2, 1-0 MW) will continue Mountain West play this weekend with a road game at Colorado State (5-1, 1-1 MW) on Saturday, Oct. 18 at 5 p.m. The game will be televised nationally on CBS Sports Network (Comcast Ch. 269/753HD, Dish Network Ch. 158, DirecTV Ch. 221). USU is 32-36-2 all-time against the Rams, including a 15-17-1 road record.

W, 34-16 --- AIR FORCE
• Senior LB Zach Vigil recorded a career-high 22 tackles, the most in the nation this year at the FBS level, and Utah State forced four first-half turnovers in posting a 34-16 Homecoming win against Air Force last weekend in USU's Mountain West opener. Utah State (4-2, 1-0 MW) raced out to a 31-6 half-time advantage and limited Air Force (4-2, 1-2 MW) to just 155 rushing yards on 51 carries in posting the 18-point win. USU finished the game with 388 yards of total offense (311-passing, 77-rushing) as compared to 379 total yards (155-rushing, 224-passing) for the Falcons. AFA entered the game averaging 298.0 rushing yards per game to rank 10th in the nation, while the Aggies ranked eighth nationally in rushing yards allowed (93.4 ypg). Zach Vigil, who added a career-high 4.0 tackles for loss to go along with a half of a sack in the game, recorded the most tackles by an Aggie since Brent Passey has 23 stops against New Mexico State in 1999. Sophomore LB Nick Vigil added 11 tackles to go along with an interception and rushing touchdown, and junior LB LT Filiaga tied his career-high with 10 stops. Senior SS Frankie Sutera also tied his career-high with nine tackles and intercepted his fourth pass in as many games. Sophomore QB Darell Garretson finished his night 20-of-29 passing for 298 yards and two touchdowns, both to junior WR Hunter Sharp, who tied his career-high with 12 receptions for 164 yards. Senior PK Nick Diaz, who was 2-of-2 on field goals and 4-for-4 on extra points, set the USU record for PAT's made in a career with 110, passing Brad Bohn (1997-2000) who held the record with 107.

• Utah State's soccer team (8-4-2, 4-1-1 MW) will continue Mountain West play this weekend with a pair of road matches at San Diego State (11-2-1, 6-0-0 MW) on Friday, Oct. 17 at 8 p.m. (MT), and at New Mexico (5-4-2, 3-1-2 MW) on Sunday, Oct. 19 at 1 p.m. USU is 0-2-1 all-time against the Aztecs and 0-0-2 all-time against the Lobos.

• Utah State posted a 2-0 Mountain West home record last weekend with a 1-0 win against San José State and a 2-1 overtime win against Fresno State. Against SJSU, senior midfielder Maris Hamblin scored the only goal of the match in the 43rd minute. Against FS, sophomore forward Jessica Brooksby scored off a free kick in the 85th minute and won the match in overtime off an own goal from the Bulldgos. For the weekend, junior goalkeeper Jeannie Woller had five saves.

VOLLEYBALL

• Utah State's volleyball team (8-8, 4-2 MW) will continue Mountain West play this week with a pair of matches as it plays at Boise State (10-8, 3-3 MW) on Tuesday, Oct. 14 at 7 p.m. and hosts Fresno State (6-14, 1-5 MW) on Thursday, Oct. 16 at 7 p.m. USU is 17-18 all-time against the Broncos and 13-10 all-time against the Bulldogs.

W, 3-0 --- NEVADA
• Utah State posted a 2-0 Mountain West home record last weekend with a 3-1 win against San José State and a 3-0 win against Nevada. Against the Spartans, senior OH Rachel Orr had 14 kills and 12 digs for her 10th double-double this season and the 23rd of her career. Senior MB Kaitlyn VanHoff and sophomore OH Kaylie Kamalu each added 11 kills, and senior S Paige Neves had 30 assists. USU hit .258 (53-21-124) in the match and SJSU hit .000 (34-34-119). Against the Wolf Pack, Orr had 15 kills and senior LIB Ashlan Rogers-Court had 15 digs, while sophomore LIB Hannah Gleason had 10 digs. USU finished the match hitting a season-high .340 (44-12-94) and UN hit .191 (39-17-115). For the weekend, Orr posted her 1,000th career kill and VanHoff recorded her 500th career block.

• Utah State's women's tennis team will conclude its 2014 fall season this week at the ITA Regionals in Albuquerque, N.M., from Wednesday, Oct. 15 through Sunday, Oct. 19.

• At the Utah State Invite, sophomore Nini Guensler posted a 7-1 overall record, going 4-0 in doubles play and 3-1 in singles competition. Freshman Maggie O'Meara went 1-2 in doubles play and 2-2 in singles competition, while freshman Sabrina Demerath went 2-2 in doubles play and 3-1 in singles competition. Sophomore Lexi Turley posted a 1-3 doubles mark, while going 2-2 in singles play. Junior Amber Stuhlmann went 1-2 in doubles play with a 2-2 mark in singles competition. Junior Kallie Sperry recorded a 1-2 singles ledger with a 2-0 mark in doubles play. And sophomore Katie Sweet recorded a 1-1 mark in doubles play with a 3-1 singles record.

• At the ITA All-American Tournament in Pacific Palisades, Calif., senior McKenzie Davis fell to the No. 25-ranked singles player, California's Denise Starr in straight sets (7-6, 7-6). And in doubles play, Davis and Sperry fell to the No. 32-ranked doubles tandem in the country, Ohio State's Gabriella De Santis and Sandy Niehaus in straight sets (7-5, 6-4).

• Utah State's men's golf team will conclude its 2014 fall season on Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 20-21 when it competes in the Cal State Northridge hosted Bill Cullum Invitational.

• Utah State finished in eighth-place with a 34-over 1,099 (361-369-369) at the second annual OGIO Utah Invitational last week. Santa Clara won the 13-team tournament with an even par 1,065 (361-356-348), while Southern Utah's Nic Booth (68-69-73) and Seattle's Joe Harvie (70-70-70) shared medalist honors at 3-under 210. USU senior Grahm Schmaltz finished tied for 21st-place with a 5-over 218 (72-69-77) to lead the Aggies, while senior Zach Waxler (73-78-70) and juniors Brennan Coburn (69-77-75) and Seokwon Jeon (76-72-73) all tied for 33rd-place at 8-over 221. Sophomore McCoy Willey tied for 48th-place with an 11-over 224 (73-74-77) and sophomore Tanner Jenson tied for 53rd-place with a 12-over 225 (74-77-74). Waxler had the best final round for the Aggies as he shot a collegiate-best 1-under 70, while Schmaltz's 5-over 218 is his best-ever 54-hole score.

• Utah State's men and women's cross country teams will return to action on Saturday, Oct. 18 when it travels to California to compete in the Santa Clara Invitational.

Last Competition
M: 18/31; W: 20/35 --- at Minnesota Invitational
• Utah State men's cross country senior Eric Shellhorn placed 17th with a time of 25:24, sparking the Aggie men to an 18th-place finish out of 31 teams in the 29th running of the Minnesota hosted Roy Griak Invitational. USU's men scored 512 points among a very competitive field, including four teams ranked in the top-30 nationally. Sophomore Tori Parkinson was the leader for the USU women, clocking in with a time of 22:51, finishing 78th and helping the women's team score 598 points to finish 20th out of 35 teams, which included seven teams who are ranked in the top-30. In-state rival Southern Utah finished first in the men's 8K race, with Michigan State taking the top spot in the women's 6K competition. Finishing behind Shellhorn was junior Kade Jensen taking 111th, timing out at 26:41, with senior Mike Bills just behind him finishing 112th with a time of 26:44. The final two of the top five for the Aggie men were freshman Justin Sheets, placing 130th with a time of 27:00, followed by sophomore Colby Wilson, finishing 142nd with a time of 27:09. Trailing Parkinson was freshman Kelsey Yamauchi, crossing the line at 107th with a time of 23:16, with junior Amanda Stoudt finishing 117th with a time of 23:24. Junior Karlee Deeter finished 134th, posting a time of 23:41, while sophomore Joanna Boyd placed 162nd, clocking in at 24:02 to close out the Aggie women top-five.

• Utah State's men's tennis team will conclude its 2014 fall season this week at the ITA Regionals in Las Vegas, Nev., from Tuesday, Oct. 14 through Sunday, Oct. 19.

• Sophomore transfer Karan Salwan posted a 4-2 overall record, including a 3-1 mark in singles play at the Utah Intercollegiate Tournament last weekend on his way to winning the Flight A Consolation Bracket. In doubles, Salwan teamed up with fellow sophomore transfer Jack Swindells for a 1-1 record. Swindells also went 2-2 in singles play, while sophomore Tomas Cosmai recorded a 1-2 singles record, while pairing with freshman Andrew Nakajima for an 0-2 doubles record. Nakajima went 0-3 in singles play.
