This Week
Sat., Oct. 19 --- at New Mexico, 7 p.m. (ROOT Sports)
• Utah State's football team (3-4, 2-1) will continue its 2013 season this weekend with a Mountain West game at New Mexico (2-4, 0-2) on Saturday, Oct. 19 at 7 p.m., in a contest that will be televised regionally on ROOT Sports (Comcast Ch. 52/693HD, Dish Network Ch. 414, DirecTV Ch. 683). USU is 8-11 all-time against the Lobos, including a 3-8 road record.

L, 34-23--- BOISE STATE
• Playing without four of its offensive starters, Utah State was stopped by Boise State, 34-23, last weekend in front of a sold-out crowd at Merlin Olsen Field at Romney Stadium. USU suffered its second-straight loss in falling to 2-3 overall and 2-1 in Mountain West action. The loss snapped the Aggies' school-record 13-game conference win streak, as well as their five-game home conference game win streak. BSU improved to 3-3 overall and also 2-1 in MW play. The Aggies accumulated 348 yards of total offense, getting 221 through the air in the combined efforts of junior quarterback Craig Harrison and freshman quarterback Darell Garretson. Harrison was 7-of-17 passing for 105 yards in the first career start, while Garretson was 9-of-14 passing for 116 yards with one touchdown, a 4-yard strike to senior wide receiver Travis Van Leeuwen in the final seconds of the game. Senior wide receiver Travis Reynolds had a career-high 142 yards on five catches, while Van Leeuwen finished with three receptions for 25 yards with one score. Utah State totaled 127 rushing yards, led by senior running back Robert Marshall with a career-high 19 carries for a career-best 69 yards, while senior running back Joey DeMartino rushed 11 times for 37 yards with a 1-yard touchdown in the second quarter. Senior linebacker Jake Doughty posted a career-high 19 tackles, while junior linebacker Zach Vigil tied his career-high with 12 stops and junior safety Brian Suite added 11 tackles. Utah State also snared three interceptions, two by senior cornerback Nevin Lawson who returned one 65-yards for a touchdown early in the fourth quarter, and another by Suite. Lawson also had a career-best five passes defended and tied his career-high with nine tackles. Boise State amassed 447 yards of total offense.

Fri., Oct. 18 --- at Colorado State, 3 p.m.
• Utah State's soccer team (7-5-2, 3-2-0) continues its 2013 season with a Mountain West road match this weekend at Colorado State (2-9-2, 1-5-0) on Friday, Oct. 18 at 3 p.m., in the first-ever meeting between the two programs.

• Utah State posted a 1-1-0 Mountain West record last weekend with a 1-0 overtime loss at Fresno State and a 2-0 win at San José State. Against SJSU, junior midfielder Kylie Dibb scored in the 55th minute and senior forward Jennifer Flynn scored in the 82nd minute. Redshirt freshman goalkeeper Natalie Stoven had two saves against the Spartans, while sophomore goalkeeper Jeannie Woller had seven saves against the Bulldogs.

• Utah State's volleyball team (10-7, 4-3) will continue its 2013 season with two matches this week as it hosts Utah Valley (11-10) in a non-conference match on Tuesday, Oct. 15 at 7 p.m., before returning to Mountain West play at Nevada (2-16, 0-6) on Saturday, Oct. 19 at 3 p.m. (MT). USU is 5-5 all-time against the Wolverines and 15-20 all-time against the Wolf Pack.

W, 3-1 --- at Wyoming
• Utah State posted a 1-1 record last week as it lost at No. 13 Colorado State (3-1) and won at Wyoming (3-1). Against the Rams, junior outside hitter Rachel Orr had 13 kills, while senior outside hitter Tumua Etimani had 10 kills and 13 digs. USU hit .099 (43-29-142) in the match and CSU hit .173 (58-29-168). Against the Cowgirls, Etimani recorded her eighth double-double of the season with 12 kills and a career-high 21 digs, while Orr had 12 kills and 13 digs. Sophomore opposite side hitter Elle Brainard added 12 kills and six blocks. USU hit .122 (50-29-172) in the match and UW hit .130 (51-28-177).

• Utah State's men's golf team will conclude its 2013 fall season on Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 21-22 when it competes in the Cal State Northridge hosted Bill Cullum Invitational in Simi Valley, Calif.

• Sophomore Seokwon Jeon shot a 3-under par 68 during his final round and won a two-hole playoff to claim medalist honors at the Utah Invitational. Overall, Jeon finished the tournament with a collegiate-best 7-under 206 (67-71-68). Utah State finished the Utah Invitational tied for second-place out of nine teams with a 21-over 1086 (355-359-372). Jeon, who defeated Boise State's Ty Travis in a two-hole playoff, becomes the second Aggie golfer in as many events to win a tournament as current senior Tanner Higham won the Boise State hosted Dash Thomas Memorial with an 8-under 205 (71-67-67). Jeon began the Utah Invitational by tying his collegiate low round with a 4-under 67 during his first 18 holes, followed by an even-par 71. Jeon then fired a 3-under 68 during his final round to get into the two-hole playoff. Higham finished the Utah Invitational tied for 11th-place with a 2-over 215 (70-72-73), while sophomore Brennan Coburn finished tied for 26th-place with a 6-over 219 (71-70-78), which is also his collegiate-best 54-hole score. During his second round, Coburn carded a 1-under 70 for his best-ever collegiate round. USU junior Grahm Schmaltz finished in 35th-place with an 11-over 224 (70-78-76) as he tied his collegiate-low round of 70 during his first 18 holes. Freshman Braxton Miller tied for 42nd with a 16-over 229 (77-75-77) and fellow freshman Dylan Cramer tied for 52nd-place at 21-over 234 (81-71-82).

• Utah State's men's and women's cross country teams will continue its 2013 season on Saturday, Oct. 19 when it travels to Terre Haute, Ind., to compete in the Indiana State Pre-Nationals at 10 a.m. (MT).

Last Competition
M: 9/47; W:21/48--- at Lehigh Invitational
• Utah State's men's cross country team placed ninth out of 47 teams with 393 points at the 40th annual Paul Short Run, hosted by Lehigh University last weekend. On the women's side, Utah State placed 21st out of 48 teams with 615 points. Indiana claimed the top spot in the men's race, while Georgetown took first on the women's side. Senior Kyle McKenna placed 31st out of 397 runners with a time of 24:38 in the College Men's Gold 8K Race and had the fastest eight-kilometer race in the Mountain West Conference thus far this season. Junior Eric Shellhorn also had a strong showing, finishing 42nd with a time of 24:48. Freshman Tori Parkinson led the way for the women's team, placing 87th out of the field of 406 with a time of 21:41 in the College Women's Gold 6K Race.

• Utah State men's tennis will conclude its 2013 fall season this week as it travels to Las Vegas, Nev., to compete in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Regional Championship from Wednesday, Oct. 16 through Sunday, Oct. 20.

NTS --- at Utah Invitational
• Senior Andrew Whiting won the Black Singles Draw at the Utah Intercollegiate Tournament last weekend featuring players from Utah, BYU and Weber State. Whiting went 3-0 in singles play, winning the championship match against teammate Curran Wearmouth in three sets (2-6, 7-5, 7-5) after defeating the number-two seed in the bracket, BYU's Jeremy Bourgeois (3-6, 6-4, 6-3). Wearmounth ended the tournament with a 2-1 singles record and teamed with freshman Dylan Harlow for a doubles win. Junior Matt Sweet also participated in the tournament for USU and posted one singles win.

• Utah State women's tennis will return to action on Friday, Jan. 31 when it begins its spring season with a dual match at Chicago State.

• Junior McKenzie Davis teamed with sophomore Kallie Sperry for a 2-1 doubles record as the duo advanced to the quarterfinals at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Regional Championship held last week in Las Vegas, Nev. Davis and Sperry also posted 1-1 singles record, while freshmen Cassidy Branstine and Lexi Turley went 1-2 in doubles play. Other Aggies to compete in the ITA Regional Championship include sophomores Amber Stuhlmann and Ashley Stuhlmann.
