MEN'S BASKETBALL

LAST WEEK Off THIS WEEK Nov. 6 - PUGET SOUND (Ex.), 7:05 p.m. NEXT WEEK Nov. 12 - E.A. SPORTS (Ex.), 7:05 p.m.

** Utah State will play Puget Sound in its first exhibition game of the 2004-05 season on Sat., Nov. 6 at 7:05 p.m. in the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum. There will not be a radio broadcast for this game as the Aggie football team is playing at Louisiana-Monroe at 5:30 p.m.

** Utah State is celebrating its 100th season of basketball during 2004-05 and has an overall record of 1,277-949 (.574). USU's first year of basketball was during the 1903-04 campaign as that team notched a 2-2 record.

** Utah State is 6-1 all-time against current members of the Northwest Conference. The last time USU played a team from the Northwest Conference was on Nov. 26, 2002 when the Aggies defeated Whitman College 86-52 in Logan.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

LAST WEEK Off THIS WEEK Nov. 5 - METRO STATE (Ex.), 7 p.m. NEXT WEEK Nov. 10 - UTAH SHOWCASE (Ex.), 7 p.m.

** Utah State women's basketball opens its 2004-05 schedule as it hosts the Division-II Metro State Roadrunners in an exhibition game on Friday, November 5 at 7 p.m. USU is coached by Raegan Pebley. Tricia Binford, Bradley Dance and George Brosky assist her.

** Utah State returns four starters (Ali Aird, Jessica Freeman, Brittany Tressler, Christina Zdenek) and nine letterwinners from the 2003-04 team that went 5-22, finished in a tie for eighth-place in the Big West Conference with a 5-13 record, and advanced to the Big West Tournament where is lost to Long Beach State 55-48. The Aggies also welcome three newcomers in JUCO transfer Kalhie Quinones and true freshmen Jenny Gross and Taylor Richards.

** All Utah State women's basketball games can be heard live on KLGN (1390 AM) in Logan with Evan Nyman calling the play-by-play and Katie Miller providing color commentary for home games. They can also be heard on the web by going to www.UtahStateAggies.com and clicking on the LISTEN link.

LAST WEEK W-3rd/10 M-2nd/9 at Big West Championships THIS WEEK Off NEXT WEEK Nov. 13 - at NCAA Regionals, Fort Collins, Colo.

** The Aggie men placed second and the women placed third at the Big West Championships last weekend.

** Trevor Ball and Clark Bryner placed first and second respectively for the men, while Ashley Johnson and Lida Ripplinger placed fifth and seventh to lead the women.

** Trevor Ball was named Big West Cross Country Athlete of the Year.

LAST WEEK Off THIS WEEK Off NEXT WEEK November 8-9 - at Countrywide Home Loans Intercollegiate, Northridge, Calif.

** The Aggies will close their fall season at the Countrywide Home Loans Intercollegiate at Northridge, Calif. on Nov. 8-9. USU finished 16th at this event last year. Cody Huot was the Aggies' top finisher, placing 10th as he fired a final round 69 for a 216 total.

** Brendon Ehlers leads the team this year with a 72.66 scoring average, while Brett Black is second at 73.11. Two other Aggies average better than 75.00 including Jared Humphries at 74.00 and Cody Huot 74.88.

** USU stepped away from tournament play in its last action as the Aggies had a Ryder Cup style dual at Southern Utah . The Thunderbirds won the match 8 1/2 to 3 1/2. Jake Blair scored 1 1/2 points for USU while teaming with Brendon Ehlers in alternate shot and Jared Humphries in four ball. Brett Black and Preston Otte won singles matches to score one point each.

LAST WEEK L1-3 CAL POLY, L 1-2 UC SANTA BARBARA THIS WEEK End of season

** Utah State soccer finished the 2004 season with a 2-1 loss at home to UC Santa Barbara on Sunday. The Aggies opened the season 5-0 at home this year, but dropped their final two home matches to finish the season with a 6-11-1 overall record and a 3-5-1 mark in the Big West.

LAST WEEK L 1-3 UC IRVINE, L 0-3 LONG BEACH STATE THIS WEEK November 5 - at Cal Poly, 8 p.m. November 6 - at UC Santa Barbara, 8 p.m. NEXT WEEK November 11 - UC RIVERSIDE, 7 p.m. November 13 - CS FULLERTON, 7 p.m.

** Utah State (7-13, 3-9) will travel to Cal Poly (4-18, 2-11) on Fri., Nov. 5 and to 20th-ranked UC Santa Barbara (16-3, 11-2) on Sat., Nov. 6. Both matches will begin at 8 p.m. (MST).

** Utah State is 4-32 all-time against UC Santa Barbara which includes a 1-14 road record, and 7-12 all-time against Cal Poly which includes a 2-4 road record. USU has lost seven straight matches to the Gauchos and its only win at Santa Barbara was on Nov. 3, 1977 in four games.

** The Aggies have won six of the last nine meetings against the Mustangs including three straight dating back to last season. Earlier this year, USU lost to UCSB at home in three games and defeated the Mustangs at home in four games.

LAST WEEK L 0-21 at Middle Tennessee THIS WEEK November 6 - at UL-Monroe, 5:30 p.m. NEXT WEEK November 11 - at Arkansas State, 5:05 p.m. (KJZZ-TV)

** Utah State (2-6, 1-3 Sun Belt) will play its third straight road game when the Aggies meet UL-Monroe (3-5, 2-2) on Saturday, Nov. 6 at 5:30 p.m. mountain time... This is the third of four straight road games for USU, which is in a stretch with six of seven games away from Logan.

** Here is a quick look at USU's 2004 schedule: • USU is tied with Georgia for the most days between home games at 42. The Aggies' last home game was Oct. 9 against North Texas and USU will close the season hosting New Mexico State on Nov. 20. • USU is playing four straight road games for the first time since 1990. • USU is playing six of seven games on the road for the first time since 1972.

** USU defensive lineman Ronald Tupea, who has started a team-high 38 consecutive games, was named the Sun Belt Conference Defensive Player of the Week for his efforts against UL-Monroe last year. In that game, Tupea had six tackles, including three sacks, while also recovering a fumble. The Aggies beat ULM 28-10.
