USU Athletics Unveils J Kenneth (Kenny) Seamons Equipment Room With Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony Saturday

Nov. 20, 2010

LOGAN, Utah - Utah State University's Athletics Department held a ribbon cutting ceremony on Saturday prior to USU's football game against Idaho, unveiling the "J Kenneth (Kenny) Seamons Equipment Room" inside the Jim and Carol Laub Athletics-Academics Complex.

The ceremony, which was originally scheduled for last spring prior to Seamons passing away, opened with an introduction by USU Director of Athletics Scott Barnes. Speeches by former Athletics Director and men's basketball coach Rod Tueller and longtime athletics trainer Dale Mildenberger followed. Seamons' wife, Joyce, also made a short speech, and then cut the ribbon.

Joyce Seamons was also presented with a copy of the plaque that was mounted at the entrance to the J. Ken "Kenny" Seamons Equipment Room.

Following the ceremony, the guests in attendance were able to tour of USU's new 5,000 square foot equipment room.

A former Utah State football player, who wishes to remain anonymous, made the gift to name the equipment room in honor of Ken Seamons.

"It is quite an honor to have the equipment room named after me," said Seamons last spring. "I spent 26 years at Utah State, had a lot of good times, and met a lot of nice people from the student-athletes, to their parents and all the administrators. I have lived in Cache Valley my whole life and I am really excited about everything that is going on up at USU right now. I am truly an Aggie."

Seamons served as Utah State's head equipment manager from 1966 to 1992 and managed athletic equipment for every Aggie team while working out of a 917 square foot room. In 1991, he was named the Athletic Equipment Managers Association District 8 Equipment Manager of the Year.
