blankDr. Brian Evans
During 2011-12, Utah State had 185 student-athletes earn academic all-WAC honors to lead the league.
The rate is a four-year average encompassing the 2001-2004 classes.
Beginning his 15th year in charge of Utah State's Student-Athlete Academic Services is Dr. Brian Evans, who was promoted to Senior Associate Athletics Director in 2013. Evans joined the USU staff in July, 2000 after spending three years as Assistant Director of Athletic Academic Services at Texas Tech from 1997-2000. Previously, he was the Academic Coordinator at Montana State from 1995-97.
Evans oversees the student-athlete academic services unit, directing academics and certification of initial and continuing eligibility of Utah State student-athletes. He directs a staff of three full-time assistants and two post-graduate interns, and has administrative oversight of the gymnastics program. Following the 2014 gymnastics season, Evans was named the North Central Region Administrator of the Year as voted on by coaches in the region.
Under Evans' guidance, Utah State has led its conference in number of academic all-league honorees in nine of the past 10 years, as it finished second in the Mountain West during the 2013-14 academic year as the Aggies had 242 student-athletes recognized for academic excellence, as 160 student-athletes received academic all-Mountain West honors, while 82 were named Mountain West Scholar-Athletes. Overall, USU has led its conference in most academic all-league honorees 14 times in the last 16 years.
A native of Nebraska, the 1987 Colorado journalism graduate earned a master's degree in athletic administration from Idaho State in 1988 and a doctorate of higher education administration from Montana State in 2000.
