Blaser, Strickland Named New Assistant USU Track & Field Coaches

Former Idaho Vandal And USU Aggie Track & Field Stars Join Utah State Veteran Gregg Gensel's Coaching Staff

Steve Strickland enters his first year on the coaching staff for Utah State's cross country and track & field teams. He will assist veteran head coach Gregg Gensel with the administration duties of the team, while also coaching the distance runners.

A native of Orem, Utah, Strickland competed for the Aggies in 2005 as well as 2007-2010, while serving a two-year LDS Church Mission to Louisville, Ky., from 2005-2007. He has spent the last two years getting his master's degree in Spanish literature at the University of Kansas.

As an Aggie, Strickland won eight individual Western Athletic Conference titles, including the 3,000m steeplechase at the WAC Outdoor Championships in 2008, 2009 and 2010. Strickland also won the 5,000m run at the 2009 WAC Indoor and Outdoor Championships as well as capturing the 3,000m title at the 2008 WAC Indoor Championships and titles in the mile run and distance medley relay at the 2010 WAC Indoor Championships.

Strickland also holds the school-record in the 3,000m steeplechase with a time of 8:42.71, while also ranking third in school history in the indoor 3,000m (8:10.67) and fifth in the indoor distance medley (9:59.09).

In 2009, Strickland finished 24th in the 3,000m steeplechase at the NCAA Outdoor Championships, while also competing at the USA Track and Field Championships. He also qualified for the USA Track and Field Championships in 2010.
