Hawkins Sets School Record in Pentathlon at Day One of Cherry and Silver Invitational

Utah State Junior Chari Hawkins Continued her hot start to the 2014 indoor season by setting a school-record and the sixth-best mark in the country in the pentathlon with 3,965 points at the Cherry & Silver Invitational in Albuquerque, N.M. Overall, Hawkins finished in third-place, behind Georgia's Kendell Williams and Lucie Ondaschkova. Freshman Bradford Strobell placed fourth in the heptathlon with 2,304 points.

Further north, USU's men's team put in a dominating performance at the first day of the Jacksons Invitational in Nampa, Idaho. The Aggie Men lead the team rankings over seven other schools with a total of 49 points, Sacramento State sit in second-place with 40 points.

Junior Nic Bowens won the 200m with a time of 21.47 and sophomore Parker Bluth placed third with a time of 21.61. Utah State's distance medley team, made up of freshman Austin Orr, sophomores Briton Page and Spencer Russell and senior Eric Shellhorn, placed first with a time of 10:14.47.

On the women's side, senior Keeley Eldredge led the way with a third-place finish in the weight throw with a distance of 18.05m (59-02.75). Additionally, USU's women's distance medley team, consisting of senior Alex Litzsinger, freshmen Tori Parkinson and Cierra Simmons and junior Brittany Bushman, took third with a time of 12:02.55.


 

 

At the time of this release the men's long jump at the Jacksons Invitational had yet to be completed.

Saturday's action at the Jacksons Invitational will start at 10:25 a.m. (MT) with the 60m and will conclude with the men's 4x400m relays at 4:45 p.m. The Cherry & Silver Invitational will start back up at 10 a.m. with the women's shot put and will wrap up with the women's 4x400m relay at 3:10 p.m.
