USU Track & Field Tallies Five Top-Six Performances At Two Different Meets Friday

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. | SEATTLE, Wash. - Utah State's men and women's track and field teams had athletes collect five top-six finishes at two meets on Friday, including the New Mexico hosted Don Kirby Elite Invitational in Albuquerque, N.M. and the Washington hosted Husky Classic in Seattle, Wash. Junior Bryce Hall was the top placer for the Aggies as he recorded a mark of 17.74m (58-02.50) to finish third in the men's weight throw at the Albuquerque Convention Center, while sophomore Rachel Orr led the USU women by finishing in a tie for fourth-place in the high jump after tying her personal-best mark of 1.73m (5-08.00). Sophomore Nic Bowens had a record day as he ran the second-fastest time in school history (21.35) to claim fourth-place in the men's 200m. Bowens continued his historic night as he and senior Will Henry finished fifth and sixth with times of 6.78 and 6.79, respectively, in the men's 60m dash. With the times in the 60m, Bowens moves up to tie senior Silas Pimentel for the fifth fastest time in school history in the event, while Henry moves up to sixth-place. In the Don Kirby Elite Invitational, the Aggies competed against athletes from teams across the nation including The Academy of Art, Arizona, Arizona State, California, Kansas State, Mississippi, New Mexico, New Mexico State, Northern Arizona, Ohio State, Portland State, San Diego State, Stanford, UCLA, Washington State, Wayland Baptist, West Texas A&M and Wyoming. USU only had one long-distance runner compete on Friday at the Husky Classic in Seattle, Wash., as junior Kyle McKenna clocked a time of 14:27.25 to finish 37th out of 84 runners in the men's 5,000m race.
The Aggies did not have any athletes compete in the Boise State Team Challenge on Friday at Jacksons Indoor Track at the Idaho Center in Nampa, Idaho. Utah State is set to compete in several events on Saturday with action kicking off at 9 a.m. (MT) with the last three heptathlon events and will conclude with the men's 4x400m relay at 3:20 p.m. Saturday at the Husky Classic, USU will be represented by sophomore Ashley Robison in the women's 3,000m 9 a.m. (MT) and fellow sophomore Kade Jensen in the men's 3,000m 9:15 a.m. Seniors Alex Litzsinger and Stephanie Burt as well as freshman Tylee Newman will start the women's mile race at 9:30 a.m., followed by sophomore Eric Shellhorn in the men's mile at 9:45 a.m. Newman will also join junior Kylie Hirschi to run in the women's 800m at 12:15 p.m., while freshman Briton Page and senior Tyler Killpack will compete in the men's 800m 12:45 p.m. Fans will be able to follow both meets on Saturday by clicking on the 'Live Results' links on the Track & Field page at www.UtahStateAggies.com.
