ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Utah State’s track & field teams ended the 2018 Mountain West Indoor Championships on a high note Saturday, as the Aggies collected four event titles.

Overall, the Aggie men finished third with 116 points, while the women finished eighth with 44.67 points. The Air Force Falcons won the men’s title with 206.50 points, and the UNLV Rebels won the women’s championship with 99 points.

Junior thrower Brenn Flint won the shot put title with a school-record heave of 16.70 meters (54-9.50). It is the fifth time this year that Flint has set the school’s shot put record. Flint was joined on the podium by sophomore Maia Garren, who placed third with a career-best toss of 15.52m (50-11.00), which moved Garren up to fourth on USU’s all-time list.

Senior Clay Lambourne won his fourth-consecutive 800m crown, as he ran a blistering 1:48.74 to set a MW Championship meet record. Lambourne used a strong kick on the final straightaway to pull ahead of the second-place runner. Senior Jordan Beutler joined Lambourne on the podium, coming in third with a time of 1:51.46.

Brody Smith claimed the men’s 3,000m title after a thrilling finish saw the Utah State sophomore sprint past the runner in front of him just before the finish line. Smith ended the race in 8:15.24, which is the fifth-fastest time in school history.

Junior Leaugen Fray, fresh off his long jump title on Friday, claimed the high jump crown by clearing a height of 2.18m (7-1.75), good for the fourth-best mark in school history. Joining Fray on the podium in third place, freshman Hunter Simonson cleared a height of 2.12m (6-11.50) in his first attempt in the event this season, to tie for fifth all-time at USU in the event.

Utah State’s day started with a bang as senior David Hirschmann finished second in the shot put with a personal-best throw of 17.91 meters (58-9.25). Hirschmann’s throw is the 10th-best in school history.

Also in the field, sophomore Kyle Brost picked up Utah State’s first men’s triple jump medal since joining the Mountain West, as he leaped 14.85m (48-8.75) to place third in the event.

On the women’s side, junior Cierra Simmons placed fifth in the mile run with a time of 4:51.47.

Utah State’s 4x400m relay team of sophomore Melanie Sullivan, senior Breann Bate and freshmen Jordan Brandt and Kasia Lawrynowicz placed fifth with a time of 3:45.59.
