Litzsinger Breaks School Record As USU Posts Solid Marks At UW Final Qualifier Friday
March 1, 2013
SEATTLE, Wash. - Senior distance runner Alex Litzsinger led a strong performance from the Utah State women and men's track & field teams as she broke the school record in the women's 3,000m (9:41.22) to place fifth overall at the Washington hosted UW Final Qualifier in Seattle, Wash., Friday.
Freshman Tylee Newman followed Litzsinger close behind as she placed sixth with the third-fastest time in school history (9:44.61) in the women's 3,000m. On the men's side, freshman Briton Page and senior Tyler Killpack finished first and second in the men's 800m for the second-straight week with times of 1:50.36 and 1:50.85, respectively. Furthermore, Page now ranks third all-time in Aggie history as Killpack now ranks fifth in the school's top 10 list.
"The thing we wanted to is give them a chance to compete one more race and have a shot at going to nationals. Even though we didn't make it to nationals they all ran personal-bests and moved up the top 10 lists," said veteran USU head coach Gregg Gensel. "It does gives us momentum going into outdoor season and gives us something to build on"
Utah State will take a couple of weeks to prepare for the outdoor season as they travel to three different meets the week of March 27-30. USU will send athletes to the Texas Relays in Austin, Texas, Wednesday through Saturday, March 27-30. Athletes will also travel to compete at the Stanford Invitational in Stanford, Calif., as well as the UVU Collegiate Invitational in Orem, Utah on Friday and Saturday, March 29-30.
