Albuquerque, N.M. -
Utah State junior Chari Hawkins scored a total of 4,025 points to place 14th in the pentathlon at the NCAA Indoor Championships at the Albuquerque Convention Center, hosted by the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, N.M.
Hawkins started the pentathlon with a sixth-place finish in the 60m hurdles. Her time of 8.33 easily broke her own school record time of 8.40 set earlier this season. The junior followed up that performance with a third-place finish in the high jump with a leap of 1.79m (5-10.50).
The Rexburg, Idaho native then placed 11th in the shot put with a heave of 11.48m (37-08.00) and 15th in the long jump with a distance of 5.67m (18-07.25). Hawkins rounded out the pentathlon with a time of 2:35.36 in the 800m to take 16th.
"Chari really competed well today. That was her second-best score ever in a great competition. All the girls were really on their game today so it was tough. She did a great job today and we're proud of her," said Aggie Veteran coach Gregg Gensel.
The Aggies will continue with competition as they kick off the outdoor season on Saturday, Mar. 22 at the Oregon Preview in Eugene, Ore.
