LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Utah State’s track & field teams captured a total of 28 top-five finishes at both the Utah Spring Classic and UCLA-hosted Rafer Johnson/Jackie Joyner-Kersee Invitational on Friday and Saturday.

In his second-career meet as an Aggie, redshirt freshman Sindri Gudmundsson won gold and broke his own school record on his first attempt in the javelin with a distance of 73.06m (239-8.25). Gudmundsson’s mark in the javelin remains second all-time in Mountain West history.

“We were excited to go against some great competition and we ended up doing some spectacular things,” said veteran USU head coach Gregg Gensel. “I was really impressed with how everyone did and we’re just looking to stay healthy as we get ready to host the conference meet.”

Clay Lambourne turned in a stellar performance in the 800m, as the junior placed first with a time 1:50.69. Right behind Lambourne was freshman Dylan Barker in second, recording a time of 1:52.05.

The Aggie men’s sprint corps was led in large part by Brady Martin, who placed second in the 400m with a time of 46.52, which moves him to eighth all-time in USU history.

Martin also won the 4x400m relay, along with seniors AJ Boully and Joshua Gordon, and with freshman Michael Bluth. The quartet clocked a time of 3:08.79.
