BERKELEY, Calif. | Provo, Utah - Utah State track and field junior distance runner Stephanie Burt won the 3,000m steeplechase with a personal-best time of 10:57.56 on Friday, day one of the two day California hosted Brutus Hamilton Open and Invitational at Edwards Stadium/Goldman Field in Berkeley, Calif.
Overall, USU had 10 student-athletes place in the top-five of their respective events at California as well as BYU's Robison Invitational in Provo, Utah.
"With these meets we wanted to get our athletes to keep making improvements," said USU veteran head coach Gregg Gensel. "As we have told our athletes, the faster you get, the smaller the increment of improvement is. So any time you improve you are moving in the right direction. We had good performances today and we will have more of our athletes compete tomorrow in the invitationals."
