Utah State's Chari Hawkins in Sixth-Place Following First Four Events of Heptathlon at NCAA Finals

EUGENE, Ore. - Utah State's Chari Hawkins is currently in sixth-place in the heptathlon with 3,375 points after the first four events at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Finals held here Thursday at Hayward Field.
Hawkins, a junior from Rexburg, Idaho (Madison HS) began competition in the heptathlon Thursday by placing 12th in the 100m hurdles with a time of 13.97 and then placed ninth in the high jump with a mark of 1.72m (5-07.75). She then had a personal-best toss of 11.86m (38-11.00) in the shot put to place 11th, and finished 10th in the 200m with a time of 25.28.
Competition in the heptathlon will conclude on Friday, June 13 with the long jump, javelin throw and 800m.
Hawkins automatically advanced to the NCAA Finals in the heptathlon after posting a score of 5,550 points at the Mt. SAC Relays on Apr. 17. Hawkins earned second-team All-American honors last year at the NCAA Finals in the heptathlon following an 11th-place finish with a school record 5,598 points.
