LOGAN, Utah -

Utah State senior distance runner Dillon Maggard and junior thrower Brenn Flint have been named the Mountain West Men's Track Athlete of the Week and Women's Field Athlete of the Week, respectively, after a pair of school-record performances last week.

For Maggard, it is the third weekly honor this track season and the fifth of his career, while it is the second accolade for Flint this year and in her career.

Maggard, a native of Kirkland, Wash., placed second in the men’s 5,000-meter race at the Iowa State Classic last weekend with a school-record time of 13:40.59, nearly 24 seconds ahead of the previous school record. Not only was Maggard’s time a school record, but it is the second-fastest time in MW history. In the 5,000m, Maggard finished just one second behind the 2017 NCAA cross country individual national champion and finished ahead of nine other 2017 cross country All-Americans in the same heat.

Maggard is the first Aggie to run the 5k in under 14 minutes, as his time ranks third in the nation and first in the MW this season. Maggard also owns the school's indoor mile and 3,000m records.

Meanwhile, Flint, a junior from Syracuse, Utah, set the school’s indoor shot put record for the fourth time this season with a throw of 16.53m (54-2.75) to place fifth at the New Mexico-hosted Don Kirby Invitational last weekend.

Not only was it a school record, but it was the fifth-best throw in MW history. Flint, the only Aggie woman ever to throw over 16.0m in the event, is ranked first in the Mountain West and 21st in the nation in the shot put this season.

The Aggies are back in action at the 2018 Mountain West Indoor Championships held Thursday through Saturday, Feb. 22-24, in Albuquerque, N.M.
